It's been announced that Funimation will dub the entire Prince of Tennis anime. So what happened?
 
Somewhat long list, but not fully comprehensive list of stuff that got dubbed from recent seasons , plus Digimon, because Digimon

  • Digimon Adventure 2020 had been dubbed it made it's way to Hulu in July 2023.
  • The Dangers in My Heart (Spring 2023 anime) is getting weekly dubs on Hi-Dive since August 26, 2023.
  • My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 is getting weekly dubs on Crunchy Roll since August 23, 2023

I wonder if companies are spending more on dubs nowadays? Delicious Dungeons has Emily Rudd (one of the popular actors at Netflix at this point) and Corey Burton ( who generally does only Western animation) in it's dub.

At least Netflix seems to be. They had David Tennent and Neil Patrick Harris voice characters in an obscure anime nobody watched. It still seems like battle shonen series like Seven Deadly Sins seem to not get screen actor/Western Animation voice actors in their shows. Kind of surprised that Delicious in Dungeon got bigger names as I thought that Netflix would restrict that to "artistically respectable" anime rather than a silly fantasy cooking anime. Not that there is anything wrong with that kind of show as Delicious in Dungeon is a pretty solid title.

Eden. It apparently wasn't very well received based on its MyAnimeList score and general lack of buzz, Eden (ONA).

It seems like celebrity voice actors are very improbable to be part of big ticket shonen series like Jojo, Seven Deadly Sins, or Baki, but my guess is that Netflix thought that Eden was a "real art anime" that deserved celebrity voice actors. Despite being a "real art anime" nobody watched it and watched the shonen instead.

It seems like lots of mecha anime seem to struggle to get dubs. Just found out by browsing Youtube of an anime called Bang Brave Brave Bravern, but there's no dub for it despite it coming out in January.



It seems like only legacy franchises like Gundam and Code Geass get dubs. I don't get why Western fans have lost so much interest in mecha.

Watched Toy Story 5 today. It felt like another awesome escapade for the characters, while also they taught an important lesson: it's ok to be different, especially if you still like to play with toys. Lily turned from an antagonist to a hero of the movie, because of realising exactly that.
