AnimeDubs Thread

It seems like the Ocean Group has vastly been diminished in its importance in anime dubbing since the 2010s and a lot of that has to do with the deaths of anime distributors like Bandai or Geneon that would hire them out to do dubs (eg. Black Lagoon, Gundam Seed). Basically, the vast majority of Funimation's competitors died out and Funimation had a near monopoly on dubbing. Viz used to rely on Ocean for dubbing (Inuyasha, Death Note), but it seems like they rely exclusively on Bang Zoom now. Crunchyroll started out as a sub-only streaming site, and then starting teaming up with Bang Zoom to dub Mob Psycho 100 in the late 2010s it looked they might be a legit competitor to Funimation for anime dubs. Then, the Crunchyroll/Funimation merger created the biggest near monopoly on anime dubbing. I think Ocean/Canadian studios only dub obscure C tier anime that only super hardcore fans have even heard of nowadays.

Dont forget Corus absolutely SALTING the canadian anime industry. They seriously hate anime. Canada used to love anime and it aired way more than the USA but now only Family Channel still bothers.

There's no hate, it's just that Crunchyroll can spend a lot on anime rights for many different zones and from a business stand point they have no reason to have a separate dub for English speaking countries (Even though a UK with British Accents dub of anime would be fun). The Canadian media also is not in the best shape since their protection rules worked until internet circumvented it and they didn't do anything to like make Netflix not be allowed in their country.

Corus has bigger issues to worry about than anime, their finances aren't strong they already have been shutting down radio things and doing merged local news on weekends and non peak and tons of layoffs.

That be would like if a cartoon based on the Beano or any other DC Thomson (UK) comic is written, produced and acted by Americans. Do you agree with me?

Black Butler's dub has Texans doing fake British accents. Cultural authenticity is not as important to the dubbing industry as affordability and Crunchyroll knows using their own dubbing studio is easier than hiring out voice actors from all the way in the UK to voice British characters. It's just the way it is.

As far I can recall, one of the only things the Ocean Group still gets are the Mega Man stuff, as both Fully Charged and Battle Network Legacy Collection were dubbed in Vancouver, despite LA-based New Generation Pictures' involvement in the latter. Why is that?
This is being dubbed in Texas.

For a person in the former Yugoslavia, that be would like if an adaptation of Croatian writer Marija Jurić Zagorka's renowned novel Grička vještica (set in Zagreb, Croatia's capital city) is filmed somewhere in Serbia, with the Serbian actors. I don't want to derail this thread, but I am warning you.

A lost English dub has been found!!

I think you see Canadian voice actors mostly in Canadian animated productions. Sonic Prime was Canadian and had a cast that featured actors associated with Ocean Productions. Brian Drummond is going to be in a new Canadian comedy cartoon show ''Super Team Canada''.

It would have been nice for Anne Shirley to get a Canadian dub though. Well, I guess some Texan VAs will get to pretend to be from Prince Edward Island. At least the pronunciation of all the characters and places should be easy.

No offense intended, but for a person in ex-Yugoslavia, that be would like if a biopic of a Serbian medieval ruler or an adaptation of a Serbian epic poem is filmed in Croatia, complete with the Croatian actors. But I don't really want to derail the thread.

We will basically get more cast revealed for the rest of the ocean dub full moon episodes?

I'm thankful we are getting a Yaiba Samurai Legend English dub after all

Everyone applause these two characters, for soon getting their own spin-off full animated series!!! (who would have expected a series with PB and Marceline anyway? I know they have an upcoming comic book series which will go well with)

Watched Toy Story 5 today. It felt like another awesome escapade for the characters, while also they taught an important lesson: it's ok to be different, especially if you still like to play with toys. Lily turned from an antagonist to a hero of the movie, because of realising exactly that.
