I wanted to do this topic for a very long time as Lionsgate's animated films had more often than not received major backlash. I did something similar w/ Weinstein Company several years back. I was hoping I would get more discussion from that thread, but I didn' get much. So I should ask if it's a good idea for Lionsgate to released animated films even If they got major backlash from the public.

Theatrical Animated Releases: We'll start w/ the big ones, their animated titles they released in theaters. In 2007 they released Happily N'Ever After. It was meant to be film adaptation to the animated series, Simsala Grimm. Something went awry in production to change the final feature to it's own thing not linked to an existing property. It was blasted by critics and was a box-office bomb. For some odd reason, it got a direct-to-video sequel despite shortcomings. Alpha and Omega was released in 2010. while Critics were not found of it, it did well at the box-office. Making it a rare animated win from the company. It's success would have it be a direct-to-video franchise. In 2015, they released Aardman's Shaun The Sheep Movie. It was the rarest time one of their animated releases would gain critical acclaim. However, it would be a big box-office bomb which would had Aardman rethink their releases years later. Norm of The North is the company's most infamous release in theaters. released in 2016, it would be blasted by both critics and audiences and would do even worst at the box-office. For some odd reason even how it performed, it would get direct-to-video sequels. My Little Pony The Movie released in 2017 & would be based on Friendship is Magic. It would be a rare time a flash animated film would release in US theaters. Though it would be mixed w/ critics and despite opening in number 4, it would do decently if not OK at the box office. After that, In addition to these releases they would release the original Spanish versions of Little Rooster's Eggs-slant Adventure and Condorito: The Movie. I believe they have yet to release another animated film to theaters after the last decade. (Unless you count Sony Pictures Animation-style hybrid movies, there's Imaginary from 2014 to compete w/ Paramount's IF).

Direct-To-Video Features: For what they lack in terms of theatrical releases, they make up for it in the direct-to-video department. Which you can thank their collaboration w/ Grindstone for that. Now they have too many to count, but I'll name a handful. While Obscure, they did release Popeye's Voyage: The Quest For Pappy from 2004. This is their earliest example of what's to come. They would also release CGI Care Bears films from Nelvana before Fox and DiC took over. They would also release a series of LeapFrog 2D animated films as well as animated Bratz films. One of their odd choices of film would be Madea's Tough Love from the Tyler Perry's Madea series. In their earliest year's working w/ Grindstone, they would release Wings to aside the release of Disney's Planes. Wings would get a sequel that barley resembles the first film. A few of you that watched Saberspark would notice 2 movies of their's called Snowflake: The White Gorilla (Part hybrid) and Hedgehog. They had 2 kung-fu animal movies in the forms of Legend of Kung-Fu Rabbit and Legend of Panda Warrior. They also released an English Dub of Anima's Cranston Academy. Their most infamous movie would be a little title called Pinocchio: A True Story. Cause of it's infamy, the biggest critics on YouTube roasted it & mocked the casting of Pauly Shore as the titled character.

Other Company Purchases: After Weinstein Company shut down after.........reasons that'll remain nameless, Lionsgate would hold the rights to the Weinstein library w/ a few exceptions. They would also own Summit, which had a few animated titles. And from what I heard somewhere, they would hold some STX films.

So I ask, w/ a track record full of (mostly) panned films, is it a good idea for Lionsgate to helm animated projects?

Is that Joan Cusack voicing Jessie in that Toy Story Papa John's commercial? If so, it sounds rough. Woundn't surprise me if it wasn't, though.
