Are children's lives inherently more worthy of protection than adults's?

And I find it sickening that some people didn't REALLY get angry until he openly declared that he was targetting children as well as adults. I think the first clue that he was doing that was when that 13 year old got shot the other day, but I guess he didn't count? Or what? Are children's lives inherently more worthy of protection than adults's? Was he just another criminal before he said he was targetting kids? I don't understand this attitude.
He should have been caught on day one, not until he starts shooting kids. This notion that an adult's life is forfeit but a child's life must be protected at all costs is counterproductive and offensive. He should have been bagged with as much vigor if he shot a 40 year old or a 10 year old.

Of course they aren't. Everyone's life is worth the same - a lot. However, there is something definitely more disgusting about going after innocent children that cannot defend themselves.

How is an adult able to defend themselves any more from a sniper than a child? They aren't.
The Sniper is also demanding ten million dollars.
