Saban Talkback: Saturday Standstill - Saban Talkback V6

I'm curious about the contract they made for Yu-Gi-Oh! as well. I thought that they were suppose to include premieres on the CW until 2015. Would Saban also pay off that contract, as well as the contract they made with the CW? If premieres are no longer able to air on the CW, I guess that Zexal will finish up on Nicktoons, although I don't know how much of the series has aired there. I'm more curious about the fate of Arc-V's dub. Will that also be put on Nicktoons or another channel instead of the CW? I guess that we'll have to wait and see for now on that show.

I think as a condition of their early termination, Saban will have to pay the difference. I wonder how 4K Media feels about this. I don't think they will be satisfied with premieres on Nicktoons, since it doesn't reach as wide an audience. I could see Zexal finishing out premieres on Nicktoons, then perhaps they'll try to get Arc-V to premiere on Nick, or even CN. Maybe now that they aren't under the heavy restrictions of CW S&P, they'll loosen up on the edits.

As for Digimon Fusion, it'll most likely continue premiering on Nicktoons. I wouldn't be surprised if Sendokai Champions pops up on Nicktoons, either.

Also, I think this pretty much explains how Toonami was able to get DBZ Kai.

They probably aren't too happy about this, but I don't know if having Zexal on the CW was doing much for them anyway. I think I read an article with how card sales increased by a certain amount not too long after Zexal started to air on Nicktoons, so while the channel isn't as widely available as the CW, I wouldn't be too surprised if there were more kids watching the series on Nicktoons as opposed to the CW. There's probably a better chance for Arc-V to premiere on Cartoon Network than Nickelodeon since I don't think that they've aired anime on their main channel for a long time. I would hope that they don't wait until Zexal finishes to premiere Arc-V, especially if Nicktoons is far away from where the CW airings are and it would be really unnecessary to boot.

As for the edits, I doubt where the series airs will change anything. GX premiered on Cartoon Network and it still was full of the same kind of unnecessary edits 4Kids' other dubs had. Given that Zexal has the same production team from 4Kids and I assume that they'll handle Arc-V's dub as well, I wouldn't expect anything significantly different for the rest of Zexal's run or Arc-V.

I'm kind of surprised that they are going to air Sendokai Champions during the summer. I guess that they wanted one more premiere after Zexal goes into reruns, but it seems like it wouldn't matter at this point. This would definitely explain how Toonami got DBZ Kai, especially when they said before that the rights were already covered by other channels.

*sigh*

The writing was on the wall, but we were all in denial because we wanted to see the block continue to do well. We wanted to see Saturday mornings to continue on into the forseeable future. But now...Now I wonder what was even the point.

Well, at the very least, Fusion'll manage to run all 30 episodes of its first season before the block dies. The sad note to that is that without Vortexx there as a safety net, Fusion has no guarantee of getting a second season now.

This depresses me on a hundred different levels.

Unless I missed something, they aren't. Saban still has the license to it, which is why I said I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up on Nicktoons.

This also begs the question of what Saban is going to do with all the third-party content they've licensed. The rights will probably revert back to the studios after Vortexx folds, I imagine. The programming library they inherited from 4Kids will probably fade to obscurity.

I thought that they said on Facebook that it would be airing at some point this summer, but perhaps I was mistaken. As for the programming library from 4Kids, they weren't really doing much with that content anyway, so fading to obscurity isn't surprising.

I think that's one reason why I'm not too broken up about the block ending. They just never took advantage of their library of shows. It's hard to say it was just Saban not caring anymore or if it was a combination of that and issues from the CW's standards and edits. I would imagine that's why they took Power Rangers off as quickly as they did, but they could have easily tried a Disney era season instead. Not to mention another Digimon season would have been nice. Frontier would have been able to air on the block with little to no edits, but they just didn't take advantage of their collections of shows. I don't know if that would have helped the block to last longer, but at least it would have shown that they were making effort. The moment the block went on autopilot for months is when they stopped putting effort, or at least it was when their lack of effort was most noticeable.

I'm honestly not surprised about this, but still saddened, at least some shows are/or will be airing on cable networks.

I'm guessing the original plan was to ride out the contract at least until next year, but obviously that's not what happened. I wonder if Spidey could elaborate on that more...

Either way, I'm not surprised, especially given my posts a couple pages back. I just wish I had been wrong about this. I do hope this isn't a big blow to Saban Brands, but I have to wonder what they plan to do now for the properties they own, besides with the contracts that they already have in place with Nickelodeon..

I wonder if Saban is just dumping the things that aren't making money and keeping those that are (I guess that is obvious). But some parts of the company must be doing well. After all the new Power Rangers Movie was just announced.

Looking at Spidey's post, this has been set since at least April 6. It may have taken a few months to finalize everything, so it seems that Saban had given up on the block for a while, perhaps as early as late last year.

With ABC, CBS, and soon CW having Litton owned Saturday morning blocks, NBC, with its NBC Kids block featuring shows also aired on the Sprout cable channel, will be the only network with a Saturday morning block not outsourced to Litton.

Which means we were lucky to even get Digimon on Vortexx. It also might explain why B-Daman was pulled so quickly.

I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. The one thing that really shocks me is that they were able to do this before 2015, because I thought Saban's contract wasn't up until then. I wonder if this means Saban will be paying The CW out of their own pockets until then? Because I remember 4Kids did the same thing with FOX, and there weren't really any debts or dues there.

Actually, according to "DECLARATION OF SAMUEL NEWBORN IN SUPPORT OF PROPOSEDSALE OF DEBTORS’ YU-GI-OH!- AND CW-RELATED ASSETS" there was a 2 year term remaining on 4Kids deal with The CW that Saban acquired, which would set the end date of the contact as fall 2014.

That and the fact that the new One Magnificent Morning block is distributed by CBS Television Distribution make me think this wasn't really Saban's decision, but rather The CW's.

Saban's deal with Konami has a termination clause that if Saban no longer has any right to program The CW block, the deal is terminated.

That's possible. The CW probably wanted to get out of a Saturday Morning block for a long time to save on money. Although, the fact that Saban put the block on autopilot for so long makes me wonder if they just gave up on the block because it wouldn't last much longer or because they just didn't care anymore.

Ah, that would explain why the contract with the CW to air premiere episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh! isn't any issue, even though I think it was suppose to last another year. I always thought it was holding back the premieres to keep them on the CW rather than allowing other networks to air more episodes, especially when being on the Vortexx didn't really help Zexal in my opinion. Hopefully, Arc-V can air on Cartoon Network, rather than Nicktoons, and get more exposure than it would have if it was stuck on the Vortexx.

So essentially, all Saban ended up doing with Vortexx was riding out the 2 years left on the original 4Kids contract.

Can I see a source on this?

It would make sense if it was The CW's decision. The network has been under fire by Tribune for their business model. Going all E/I on Saturday mornings was probably their way of trying to appeal to Tribune and the rest of their affiliate base, as 2016 inches closer for them.

It was actually to last 2 more year, if not terminated earlier.

Alright, I found this: SNTA - Program

The block is indeed being provided by CBS Television Distribution.

On the Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal situation who can contact for immediate help for where will new episodes air? It can't be nicktoons the last new episode to the block was Sphere of Fear Part 3 against Yuma vs Vetrix, they are going to return in July according to a reply on faceboook i've gotten, they are more than likely to continue with remaining episodes of WDC Arc, including the showdown with Dr.Faker.

There has to be a person i can or someone else could possibly contact. I hope 4k Media will respond to the emails i sent. If Anybodycan find out , ANYBODY.. please let us know very soon. Because i just don't know how long this talkback thread is going to last… I'm very shaken up by this news…

The link was provided as a confirming source in the original article.

Then why does the article mention Litton, if the block is from CBS Distribution?

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
