People, I don't care about money, I want some balance!!!
That is why you fail. These threads make for some interesting discussion, but animation is part of a business. I may disagree with most of the corporate decisions that have been made, but I don’t blame them for putting their bottom line first. If they don’t make money, it pretty much puts a cap on the flow of creativity and it lowers the chances of new shows getting made. However, if I were in charge of the network, I would attempt to work older shows into the schedule, testing whether or not they would get sufficient ratings to ensure some degree of success. Using Toon Disney’s wild card stacks is a great example. Currently, they keep airing the same old shows over and over, merely rotating them every week or so. I would put more shows with eligibility to be included in that wild card slot, and should a show that is selected get good ratings, I would insert it into the schedule forthright and see where things go from there. Unfortunately, even that would be risky. One can’t judge the potential for success based on the ratings for a few episodes, but one has to take some risks if they’re hoping to find success.

We need to make an equal amount of new animated and live-action shows.
Actually, Disney has made more cartoons than live-action shows in the past 8 years. Just pointing that out...

I would forbid airtime of anything Disney TV made after 1992. All of the classic Silly Symphonies, GOOFY, DONALD, MICKEY cartoons, MAKE MINE MUSIC and the old cartoons would be put on a loop forever. There would simply be no need for new cartoons.

SO much great, GRAND cartoon heritage to the Disney name, shame they'd prefer to forget it all in favour of competing with the Cartoon Network.

Wha? Cartoon Network is the way it is now to compete with The Disney Channel.

And then Toon Disney's ratings would sink like a stone coated in solid titanium after a year or two. Something that a lot of fans need to realize is that there definitely IS a need for new cartoons. Time moves forward, and as attached as you may be to one era, you simply can't live in the past. I appreciate the classics also, but TD or (any other channel, for that matter) can't just show one continuous loop of reruns until the end of time. That may please some fans, but such a move would very bad for business, which is what TD is. Without the prospect of new shows down the line, it's only a matter of time before viewers get tired of the shorts and reruns because they've seen them so many times that they can recite all of the dialogue backwards and start channel surfing to see what else is on.

You've got that backward. Cartoon Network is trying desperately to compete with Disney Channel and Nick, not the other way around.

1. While I wouldn't restrict Toon Disney to just airing 1990s Disney Afternoon material, I would enforce a new policy that anything airing on mainstream Disney Channel has no place on Toon Disney.

2. I'd tone down on the kid/school centric toons. The network can still have some, but they are not to be sole premise for every single show in existence. Some of you might respond by saying, "that's what the target demo wants". That's all well and good, but if a kid's favorite dinner is grilled cheese sandwich, do you give him a grilled cheese sandwich every night for dinner?

2a. That's why I believe many cartoons on Disney don't do as well as the live action shows to the target demo. Because most of the toons in question try to act like live action sitcoms, but with a fictional/fantasy element to them. If you're going to animate it, tell some stories that compliment the medium.

To me, I would just eliminate the whole live-action thread altogether for the sole purpose of pulling a Nickelodeon and keep Toon Disney but make it like the old Cartoon network where they would be more of the comedies and a certain time block for the action toons.

Second, I would improve on the new Disney Channel by having more variety by getting some other shows that have been ignored over time such as Bill Nye or some of those animal shows like the one with Jeff Corwin that used to air on Disney Channel back in the day.

Third, I would bring back the game shows. With shows like Deal or No Deal making big ratings, maybe Disney should try and get back into that field for the sake of not boring the general audience with the same Suite Life and Hannah Montana reruns no matter who still love the title characters.

Fourth, there will be no more of the bottom of the screen advertisements because advertising are for commercial breaks and in fact, let's omit the commercials to showing them AFTER the show ends and not in-between them for the sake of giving time to new animators who would create new animated shorts that will be looked at by people over at the Walt Disney Animation who will decide on which short would become the next big Toon Disney show.

Fifth, anything pre-2000 will have the chance to return but to the fans response. If there is enough fan response for certain shows to return on the air such as Jett Jackson, The Jersey, and even other non-Disney material such as Sister, Sister to return then those shows will make a triumphant return but only for a limited time as the shows that are chosen will also have their DVD box sets made at the same time that they are on Disney Channel.

Sixth, since Tv Land is a thing of the past with these movies and reality shows, time to create a new channel that would show the best of the old Disney which is, to everyone here that might have said this, a new Vault Disney Channel just to save people money on buying up those DVD box sets of the old Disney fare and to have them digitally remastered for High-Definition TV sets.

Seventh, let the contests commence again. By contests, I mean the old contest when people can write up their own ideas of new animated shorts as said before that would be chosen as the new Toon Disney shows. With the contests, I would try to create an awards show that celebrates the best of the Disney Channels and bring back the American Teacher Awards and have that be broadcast on TV again.

That has to be the longest post I have ever written.

So says NewcomerDC.

Fair enough?

Well, first I would renew American Dragon for a two-three more seasons with 20 episodes per season.I would get rid of Cory In the House and that one show with the hokey background music Life With Derek, while Hannah Montana and the rest of the LA's get their own little lovely noon-to-3 block.

Amdrag and other 2000 to present animated shows would air from 3 to about 8 when a new block of Vault Disney will be shown for those of you who want it badly enough.;) That will go until midnight where from there to 5 the LA shows can play repeats. Then from 5-noon Vault Disney can have the floor again.

Like the title says,fair enough?

As much as I would personally love to ditch most/all the live action stuff, that's probably not good business sence. Still, som re-branding is in order...

The Disney channel should be recognizably Disney. Disney might be behind things like Life is Ruff, but that isn't what people think of when they think Disney. So, new mandate: minimum once a week, prime time, Disney channel will air a classic Disney Movie. Animated (Pinnochio, Jungle Book, Little Mermaid) live action (Apple Dumpling Gang, Bedknobs and Broomsticks)) CGI (Toy Story, Chicken Little) anything that debueted in theaters. Show the kiddies what Disney was built on, and remind the rest of us why we started watching Disney in the first place...

The old Disney shorts, same deal. One hour of classic shorts, maybe with some new packaging. Before or after the movie in prime time, or maybe Saturday morning. (Like the old Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck show) No need to flood the network with them, just get them on tv and visible to new viewers.

Last change: new animation block. Because I want it, and because new animated shows would probably do better in a block of similar shows. Kinda like the old Disney Afternoon, or Toonami when it was big. And because this is me running the show I'd start the block by animating some of the CrossGen properies Disney aquired. Meridian for the girls. Way of the Rat for the guys. Maybe primier WITCH on the block (what ever happend to that show, anyway?) Kim Possible and Jake Long to fill it out while more shows are developed. Beg, borrow, or steal to get Tad Stone, Greg Weisman, and Bob and Mark back for another show...

There are three very important things I would do. And rest assured it has NOTHING to do with HSM or anything like that one way or another.

1) Abolish the "Disney Vault." The only times these films go out of print is when the medium is obsolete.

2) Find a way to negotiate with Marvel to either give back, or sell off the rights to the Saban produced Marvel cartoon shows. Or at least find some middle ground, and then release them as proper box sets.

3) Give back all the rights to the Tick characters made specifically for the show to Ben Edlund, so NEC can finally publish some sort of "Tick Adventures" type comic. Or at the very least have the REAL American Maid and Die Fledermaus in the next Tick relaunch. Batmanuel and Lady Liberty? No thank you.

  • I would give Toon Disney and Jetix two seperate channels. Jetix has too many shows to just share air time with Toon Disney, and vice versa.
  • Toon Disney will become a bit like Boomerang. Showing old Disney animated shows and movies, and moving of some Disney shows to the chanel after their run has been finished for a while.
  • Disney Channel having a few more cartoons (and the cartoons having decent airing times).

  • I would give Toon Disney and Jetix two seperate channels. Jetix has too many shows to just share air time with Toon Disney, and vice versa.
I would wait another decade before doing that. At this point, TD and Jetix don't have enough of their own programming to fill up a single network (not counting outside shows like The Tick, Batman The Animated Series, Superman, Jackie Chan Adventures and Pinky & The Brain).

Infact, if you were to (Using the weekday schedule for an example):

A. Take all of the Disney Channel toons off the block (The Replacements, Lilo & Stitch and Brandy & Mr Whiskers). Now you have room for 3 shows.

B. If Power Rangers can air among Disney's toons and sitcoms on ABC Kids, then it should be allowed to air with them on the Disney Channel whether it's for boy or girl. It could even be used to bridge the gap between the toons and the sitcoms. If it stays on Toon Disney, then they need to air as one show rather than being spread out through the schedule (being that they range from 32-38 episodes). Doing that leaves room for 4-5 shows.

C. Whether it's the graveyard slot or not, Silverwing should be kept on weekends only, unless there are plans to go beyond 13 episodes. Leaves room for 1 new show.

D. You have programs that have about 36-39 episodes, while long enough for weekdays could be set in rotation.

1. For the Toon Disney portion, pair up House Of Mouse with The Legend Of Tarzan. After all episodes of HOM air, then switch to TLOT. Between the two of them you have 78 episodes. Maybe add Quack Pack to the mix and you get 117 episodes. Thus you have room for one new show.

2. Same thing with above, but put Shinzo (39 episodes), The Tick (36 episodes) and Legend Of The Dragon (39 episodes) in rotation. You get 114 episodes all together. Thus you have room for two new shows.

E. Get rid of their two hour marathon block (treasure cove). Room for 4 new shows.

If you followed my airing suggestions, you have room for 15-16 shows, thus no reason to separate Toon Disney and Jetix. Even if the Disney Channel toons remain you still have room for 12-13 shows. Perhaps after a decade or two, they'll have enough home grown shows to give them a separate network.

Since I'm posting, I'll add my third idea.

3. The weekends need to actually differ from the weekday line up. Here are the requirements for a show being on the weekend:

A. It has up to 13-26 episodes only.

B. New episode premiere's of a continuing show (Power Rangers, Pucca, Yin Yang Yo, etc).

C. Weekday shows that extend beyond 65 episodes (Gargoyles, Goof Troops, Kim Possible, Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Aladdin, Digimon and Power Rangers)

Well, I'll start with Disney Channel itself.

1. Stop with the Hannah Montana airing so much. That show is on all of the time. I know the tweens can't get enough. However, there are people, like myself, who don't like the show at all. Air some of the older shows that were good, like Sister Sister or Even Stevens. Show Hannah Montana still, it is the money maker, but limit it to once a day.

2. Give the toons some better time slots, it's impossible for shows to gain an audience when they are on when no one is home. They really need to air the cartoons in the afternoon when people are actually watching TV. That may help the ratings of those shows....

3. Find a good live action show to put on DC again. Something that is not like the new shows currently airing, that use the same tired jokes and setups- Cory in the House, Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place.

4. Give some of the Jetix shows a chance to shine on DC. Not an everyday time slot, perhaps airing shows like SRMTHFG, Digimon, or Power Rangers on the weekends. Maybe something of a Jetix block on Saturday. To help gain more of a following for these shows, thus bringing more success to Toon Disney.

Speaking of Toon Disney

1. Improve the scheduling so that more shows can be seen. As well as have a more regular time slot for shows. The scheduling seems a bit all over the place.

2. Definitely keep the movie thing going. I really like the "Big Movie Show" sometimes it is a great movie. However, they need to watch the amount of live-action going on there.

3. Air some of the old classics when people are watching. I've noticed, when I'm home sick, that they air Goof Troop and Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers during the day. I believe that there should be a slot in the afternoon or at nite. Something along the lines of 6:30 -ish.
Monday- Goof Troop
Tuesday- Darkwing Duck
Wednesday- Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers
Thursday- DuckTales
Friday- Bonkers
...or something similar.

4. This is a very minor thing, but something that bugs me. The info on Digimon: Digital Monsters- at least on Dish Network, really needs to be fixed. It is almost impossible to know which episode is on, unless it's Monday night and it says "New." I think that they should be listed by season, much like Power Rangers. For example Digimon Adventure 01, Tamers, Data Squad, etc. With the episodes numbered for each season. Or at least number the episodes where it can be determined which season it is. (Like I said that is a more personal thing, but it can get really annoying sometimes.)

This is what I'd do:

Toon Disney: A more even (50/50) split in the schedule w/Jetix. Right now, you have Jetix in morning drive and prime time, with TD in the middle. A better way is to have TD from 2am to 2 pm and Jetix from 2 pm to 2 am on weekdays. Weekends would be more of a 60/40 split, the way it is now.

Necessary changes: TD/Jetix should be 100% toons. No live-action. Movies like the Spy Kids trilogy and the Power Rangers would be ticketed for ABC Family and/or Disney Channel.

Disney Channel: If I'm not mistaken, there was a brief point where reruns of Boy Meets World were airing on both DC & ABCF. Might still be happening, I don't know. I do know that Sister, Sister is currently airing on ABCF, even holding down a SatAM slot. I would leave SS there and keep BMW on ABCF, then recall older DC shows like Jett Jackson to fill the space, instead of playing Raven, Hannah, & Cory into the ground. People forget that Jett is what launched Lee Thompson Young's career, before he showed up on Smallville & South Beach.

Necessary changes: Other than what I just proposed, nothing.

ABC Family: They need to move the Rangers back here, since it fits on Jetix like a square peg in a round hole. Complement it by adding Saban's other l-a series (i.e. VR Troopers) for a new early PM block leading to Gilmore Girls. Smallville's been in & out of the lineup (why?), and should stay in. If it returns, I'd move 8 Simple Rules & Grounded For Life to 3-5, and use the Rangers to lead into Smallville.

I'd shut down ABC Family first. That channel is little more than a waste of space. I'd then reach a settlement with CBN that would allow me to change the name and format of the channel, then I would make the channel Jetix and return Toon Disney to what it once was. That way Jetix would become a basic cable channel and be able to actually compete with Nick and CN. Also, I'd look into airing reruns of Kirby and Sonic X, like they do in Europe.

In charge of the TV sector:

DISNEY CHANNEL: STOP with HSM after #3. Also, still promote Hannah Montana whilst cutting back on the overmilking of it. Also, put more focus on animated efforts, and diversify live-action beyond just cheap comedies. Try dramedy or sci-fi.

TOON DISNEY: First order of business: Original series. The channel would become Disney's Nicktoons Network equivalent. Second order of business: NEW LOGO. It would consist of the word "TOON" in colorful text and the letters in various sizes and shapes, with "Disney" below. Third order of business: Split from Jetix. Fourth order of business: More classics.

24-7 JETIX: Acquire imports from other countries. Develop original series. Basically, serve as Disney's "ten-year-old kid" channel. It would specialize in action and comedy.

ABC FAMILY: GET RID OF IT. To Fox you go. But Disney's keeping the Marvel shows (which would air on Jetix). The shows that would go back to Fox would be: Eek! The Cat, Bobby's World, The Tick, and several others.

ESPN: Buy it from Hearst completely.

SOAPNET: Keep it as it is.

Expand series on the Disney Channel beyond the Hannah Montana/Suite Life/High School Musical crowd. These franchises are hits, but I don't think they provide enough variety.

Bring back the classics. I disagree with the whole "Everything should be reruns of Goof Troop and Darkwing Duck" notion that some people seem to have, but there's no real reason to just forget about them. I'd like to have some sort of Vault Disney-type block that highlights these shows.

Disney has a humongous backlog of great films, yet they're hardly ever played on the actual Disney channel. It'd essentially be Wonderful World of Disney on the Disney channel - a special presentation of a classic movie every... let's say, Friday.

Fund a Kingdom Hearts series. It could just be my inner fanboy speaking, but I think this is one of Disney's richest properties, yet nothing is done with it.

It wouldn't be a post about Disney from me without some mention of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, so I'll say "put it on Broadway," with the original ending from the German show with Esmeralda's death. Personally, I think there should be an Aladdin musical as well, though that seems inevitable.

I still can't beileve Suite Life is getting a spinoff.

Hi, welcome to Toonzone

There's something about seeing kids cry after they mess up big time that really gets to me. One can definitely feel bad for Layla.
I don't know I gonna post it but i think I may had spread the disney abandoning blue sky studios like they did with fox kids/jetix propaganda onto awinger24 and now hes fears of paramount & warner bros
Europeans right now are experiencing the same Heatwave that africans face on a daily basis lol

honestly I like to think of this as some kind of "payback" too
