Toon Zone Talkback - "Yogi's First Christmas" coming to DVD!

Awesome news... btw, I wonder why they went with the cover art for Yogi's Christmas Caper? Well like the editorial said, that could change...but still a little odd.

Hmm Interesting, Don't Think I'd Buy it, but glad to see some of the lesser Known Christmas special popping Up on DVD. Im Sure the Yogi Fans will be pleased. Me I'll just stick to watching it on Boom in December like I usually do.

Unfortunately for Canadians, Warner Archive only ships to the US.

Now then if Warner's had announced that this release was going to have any sort of bonus feature talking about the creation of the special, then I would be disappointed that it wasn't coming to Canada. But I'm not exactly a fan of the special because the plot just seems to have been stretched out, and, besides I've already recorded it to DVD-R (recorded using SVHS from satellite) from YTV a few years ago. Plus YTV seems to air the special at least twice during the Christmas season every year.

This is terrible news, that cartoons starting to be added to the Warner Archive too. These types of DVD releases, are little better than bootlegs.

DVD-R aren't as compatible or as long lasting, compared to pressed DVDs. And we just get bare bones releases, with no chance of any new extras.

I would love to own this special on DVD, but I'm never buying a DVD-R.

When you consider that Yogi's First Christmas is always slated into a 2-hour time-block, you've got to wonder why Warner Brothers just doesn't slate it as a Children's movie release since the original network version is probably close to a 100 minutes in length without commercials. And Warner's could probably pair the movie up on DVD with the 1/2 hour special Casper's First Christmas.

Or maybe Warner Brothers is testing the waters with this, and Christmas 2010 will be the actual release date to stores.

As a kid, I always looked forward to this special airing every year (saw it on WGN in the 80s). Yes, in retrospect it wasn't the greatest special, but I'd still consider buying it... depending on how much they insist on charging for a glorified DVD-R...

I first saw Yogi's First Christmas when it aired in the afternoon in 5 parts for a week on a local station, WBAL-TV in Baltimore, MD.

The first thing I noticed about it was how they recycled 2 of the songs from NBCs Casper's First Christmas, and Boo-Boo's "Hope" song was previously sang by Wilma in a Flintstones Xmas special. But I suppose turnabout is fair play; later on, one of the original songs from YFC was later sung by Gargamel in an episode of Smurfs. :anime:

Don't think I need to buy this special on DVD, especially a bare bones copy with no extras or special features, but this is still good news for HB fans.

And yeah, that cover art is from Yogi's All-Star Comedy Christmas Caper, not Yogi's First Christmas, but I'm sure they'll change that by the time it hits the shelves.

It's not going to hit any shelves. It's going to be a "manufacture-on-demand" release, which means online only.

I think this is a must buy dvd for our kids since christmas is already coming. :)

The Hope Song, as far as I know, was first sung on the Hanna-Barberra 1972 Christmas Special A Christmas Story by some unknown female artist, possible meant to be the singing voice of the "Mother" in the special.

It's now up for purchase on the Warner Archive site. I ordered mine, but it won't be here until December 2.

My copy arrived today. It's very poor quality and has no menus. But still nice to own it on DVD. :)

By "poor quality" do you mean that it looks like they copied it from a VHS, or that the image has a lot of drop-outs and jumps around quite a bit?

I got the set. I thought the quality was as good as half the 80s cartoon DVD sets out there (which isn't necessarily saying much). Obviously, it hasn't been remastered. The only issue I have with it is that, when I play it in my DVD players, it plays the FBI warning then shuts off, so I have to hit play again, and then the movie starts. I think I might be missing out on some commercials because one time it looked like it was going to play some after the FBI warning. I'm wondering if they all do that. I guess since the movie itself works ok, I'll keep it.
