How does 1988 Yogi Bear show compare to 1985 The Jetsons?

I thought one of the things that contributed to the New Yogi Bear Show was the success of the 1985 revival of The Jetsons. (also Yogi's Treasure Hunt I am not going to ignore that) How did it compare with ratings, critical success, the feelings of the audience, compliment of it's 60's (in the case of Yogi 50's and 60's) counterparts.

As a kid I never knew there was difference in versions of either shows, syndication showed them all together, But today I do take the 80's Jetsons over 80's Yogi.

The 80's Jetsons had some memorable episodes like the Wizard of Oz episode, the Family Feud episode, the Christmas Carol episode, though I can't stand Orbity, but I do like that Rosie and Astro exist at the same time finally.

I have no memories of 80's Yogi. I do remember we got more Cindy in that version, Ranger Smith is not as antagonistic, but the episodes themselves, not memorably at all. Maybe I do love the original Yogi better. I think they toned down the Art Carney impersonation, and Yogi is not Yogi without acting a little bit like everyone's favorite sewer worker.

Maybe it says something, that Boomerang for the most part just aired the original Yogi, while they aired both versions of The Jetsons. Not to mention only the original Yogi cartoons got a DVD releases, as well as all seasons of the Jetsons.

Going by the fact that this thread is discussing Hanna-Barbera of the 80's (not modern Hanna-Barbera aka "Warner Bros"), I'm moving this to "Saturday Morning Forever".

Okay fair enough. Sorry for the mix up.

I'm wonder about MeTV Toons aired 1988 Yogi Bear Show? I'm trying to remember.

I don’t think so yet.

Anyway, I haven’t seen much from either show. I didn’t really care for the new Jetsons episodes (felt that they were average to mediocre). Also didn’t like how they rescored the original intro and had generic credits as the closing (this was rather noticeable for me as this change also affected the original 1962 episodes when they were re-syndicated alongside these ones, thankfully they’ve mainly gone back to their original versions). Did like how they got all of the original cast back though!

On the other hand, I saw scattered episodes of the 1988 Yogi Bear series. I thought they were alright and enjoyed how they reused most of the old music cues from the original show (something that most of the later revivals lacked). But overall, I thought it was also average.

I don’t know how well the Jetsons revival did, but it must have done somewhat well if Hanna Barbera was willing to reboot several more properties after it aired. Don’t know how much effect it had on Yogi though.

Overall, I’d probably watch the originals instead of these shows.

I believe the 1985 episodes of The Jetsons were made primarily to bump the total package of Jetsons episodes up to the 65 then required for Syndication, so they were intended to "blend in" with the 60s episodes as much as possible.

How possible was it...well, they tried. Hanna Barbera had become much more of an assembly line by the mid-80s, and had made some major changes to their production processes, most notably sending much of the animation overseas. A lot of the music cues were also more akin to something you'd hear on say The Snorks than the original 60s show. Still, I hear a lot of people who aren't animation buffs or armchair pop culture historians can't tell the difference. And it was seemingly successful enough in its own right that they made another 10 episodes in 1987 (plus two TV movies and a theatrical feature).

I'm not sure the 88 Yogis were meant to blend in with the originals in quite the same way; tellingly this was called the "New" Yogi Bear show, whereas the syndicated seasons of The Jetsons were (and still are) referred to as Seasons 2 and 3.

As a kid I didn't much care for the 80s versions of the Jetsons or Yogi, but do like the 80s Jetsons now (I even like Orbitty!). I haven't really ever revisited the 80s Yogis, but I may well like them more now.

The one 80s Yogi that sticks in my memory is when Yogi and Boo-Boo disrupt the shooting of a Rambo type movie (starring an obvious Stallone surrogate)

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
