"The Amazing Digital Circus" News & Discussion

I am kind of curious how many of their memories they still have left because they seem consciously aware that they're people ported into some virtual world (especially Pomni) and also some semblance of their past life (again, Pomni) even if they can't remember specifics.
We should hopefully get some clues in future episodes. Otherwise we only have the creator's say. Like that Pomni's age 25 and that Jax is apparently afraid of corn.

Was shopping with someone yesterday and she got her kid a Pomni shirt from Hot Topic. Was amazed by that because I and friends online and someone I know irl all can say we enjoy TACD, I greatly enjoy the characters they're all well thought and entertaining, Pomni and Ragatha being my faves and generally praised by most understandably.

"The Amazing Digital Circus Lands Netflix Distribution Deal"

"If you’ve been wandering around the Internet and stumbled on fanart of a person in a jester outfit with a panicked expression, then you’ve already encountered the phenomenon that is The Amazing Digital Circus. A fully independent animated series, the show launched its pilot on YouTube about a year ago and racked up over 25 million views in just a month.

We previously saw this happen with Hazbin Hotel / Helluva Boss, an indie project which graduated into a bona fide million-dollar television series on Amazon Prime. The Amazing Digital Circus has already beaten the records set by Hazbin Hotel (which it shares some of its production crew with) so the question everyone’s been asking is, which streamer was going to pick it up? It seemed like a matter of when, not if.

This week we learned it’s Netflix, but it’s not quite the same deal as with Hazbin Hotel. In the latter case Amazon assumed the production and cost of the series in exchange for exclusivity and ownership. In this case, Netflix will not own The Amazing Digital Circus, nor will it be funding or even splitting the cost of production. This is a distribution deal only, with creator Gooseworx holding full rights. Given the state of the business lately, you really can’t blame TADC for hesitating to shake any hands."

Same like thisisnotawebsitedotcom.com Gravity falls. Glitch Productions put out an interactive site to promote the third episode of "The Amazing Digital Circus" premiering on October 4. (warning spoilers)

Technically yes, but just for a distribution deal. The article says: "In this case, Netflix will not own The Amazing Digital Circus, nor will it be funding or even splitting the cost of production. This is a distribution deal only, with creator Gooseworx holding full rights."

Wow at how big this has gotten on Netflix. It did what Terminator 0 and Twilight of the Gods failed to do and that was chart in the weekly top 10. And it did it with only three episodes, which is really amazing. I did find this indie cartoon much more enjoyable than Hazbin Hotel as I found that to be another rude and crude adult comedy, and I'm not a fan of the genre. This show seemed to be a surreal dramedy with episode 2 being an Adventure Time esque romp in a candy world and episode 3 being the scary episode. It had a VR game premise similar to lots of anime, but the characters look like they come from a super wacky comedy cartoon. Those character designs are really memorable with Caine and Pomni being characters I see people cosplay at cons a lot. Don't know how long until episode 4 comes out, but this looks like the latest indie toon sensation.

I be surprised if this success will have netflix also getting murder drones

in recent days, Glitch has posted an interstitial portraying Pomni as a hamster (that is now a plushie), and today, they posted a trailer for episode 4. (the full episode will release on December 13).

Episode 4 with the Gangle focus really hit me with
her literally putting on a happy face to hide her internal suffering. Autistics do this, and we call it "masking".

"Glitch Productions Lands Distribution Deal With Amazon Prime"

Amazing-Digital-Circus-poster-1-e1747958143217.jpg

"Glitch Productions, creators of indie animation projects like the Amazing Digital Circus and Murder Drones, has inked a deal with Amazon Prime Video to distribute some of their animated projects. The Glitch Productions animated series Murder Drones (running from 2021 to 2024 on YouTube) has been added to Amazon Prime recently. This deal mirrors a similar deal with Netflix, allowing Glitch Productions’ most popular show, the Amazing Digital Circus, to air on both YouTube and Netflix at the same time.

Glitch Productions Founders Kevin and Luke Lerdwichagul said this about the deal between Amazon Prime Video and Glitch Productions: “Our mission has always been to creatively and systemically change the animation industry for the better. As part of this higher vision, we’ve partnered with Prime Video, who have agreed to support us and our future shows in a multi-title licensing deal. What this means is, we keep operating independently, doing what we’re doing, and Prime Video will give us the support necessary to do more for indie animation and creators than we could have previously. We will continue to keep full creative control over our series, and Glitch Original series will always continue to be released on YouTube.”"

Don't get me wrong. I'm happy for them. I really am.

But I don't see this as a positive thing for indie animation. Only the two big heavyweights of the scene, GLITCH and Spindlehorse, are getting these deals, while everyone else is hurting for funds and exposure as much as ever, if not even more than before.

Now, if smaller indie outfits start getting these kinds of deals, that will be something.

We're entering an era of streaming services grabbing the best in web animation.

That's where the creative energy seems to be nowadays, with the major animation studios reusing the same old franchises, over and over again.

Don't get me wrong. I'm happy for them. I really am.

Well, you are going to have winners and losers in this market place, no matter what.

You will need to have a breakthrough to get attention from these big streaming services, like a really successful pilot. I think Lackadaisy has a shot of making it big.

I think the past people were commenting that it seems like indie animation was not successful and now it seems like it is. Even if it just two players at the moment, there could be room for more players in the future.

Ragatha has become extremely relatable to me after episode 5, and i will now be doing a ton of self-reflection.

I think ideally, they could air somewhere free, and get enough funding from non-... studio (for lack of a better term) sources. But at least they still have creative control. For however true that is. However this does tie Glitch and Spindle' to these big companies. Who are not completely evil. However, have tendencies to poopy things. When they need to exert control, they have a few ways. But it's murky water in most of the indies' options.

A silver lining is that indie animation in-general has any kind of foot in the door. It sets a precedent that can help other productions. And this current movement of indie productions is showing the studios what people DO want, even if they are not given a chance at a greenlight to prove it.
