"Darth Maul Animated Series Announced For Disney+"

"There were a lot of Star Wars announcements this morning, and it wasn’t even May the 4th. Take any theatrical announcement from Lucasfilm with a grain of salt (those things always collapse) but their track record for completing animated projects is 100% so far, so we can say with confidence we’ll probably see Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord next year.

The series, in development for Disney+, stars the former Sith Lord “plotting to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire.” Sam Witwer is returning as the voice of Darth Maul (though he just went by “Maul” after departing with the Empire)."

Maul has arguably the most improbable recovery of any Star Wars character, having survived being chopped clean in half by Obi-Wan Kenobi and dumped down a large pit. If George Lucas had known the character was going to have such a prolific life outside of Phantom Menace, would he have filmed that scene? Based on what I know about George he likely would have filmed it anyway and then said “you figure it out.”"

Hope we get Qi'ra and Darth Vader vs Maul .
Has Maul ever fought Vader? That would be an interesting fight. I remember seeing a clip of Maul and his brother fighting Palpatine and that was pretty brutal.

Very briefly in Rebels Maul seemed very concerned about avoiding Vader, and you have to wonder who could have possibly brought him down so low other than Sidius himself :ack:.

Pretty sure it was Clone Wars episode where he lost to Palpatine bad. I suppose even Maul could sense how strong Vader was but also wouldn't want to have his operations come into direct conflict with the Empire. Though since he is a Force user, gotta think he'll run afoul of some Inquisitors, too.

Though part of me does want to see an actual Star Wars series about someone building a more illicit criminal empire after how Boba Fett's attempt at one didn't make for an enjoyable show whatsoever, I do feel after Star Wars Rebel actually showed us the death of Maul it is kind of pointless to do more. And granted we were supposed to obviously get something after Solo A Star Wars movie teased it but I kind of thought the failure of that would have meant we were done with more not "hey let's go back to the drawing board to get more with this already established character." Then again can't be too surprised that's part of Disney's track record. I guess it will be nice though this will probably have more an edge then Rebels or maybe even Bad Batch were in terms of animated Star Wars series.

Bringing him back from the dead...for a second time...but, no, excellent news.
Finally a Star Wars project that I can get excited about.

Witwer gave more hints about the story, "This isn’t going to be a show where you find out Maul is a real teddy bear, man … We’re not doing that. But is he as bad as Sidious or Vader? Actually no. From the Sith perspective, this guy has flaws ... [there's] humanity that seeps in at various points because of things that have happened to him...Maul will question whether creating the Empire was a good idea," he went on. "[Maul’s] like, ‘Is that what [Sidious] had in mind? This is a little scary. Maul comes from a time of swords, sorcery, magic and knights, and now all of that color of the universe is being sucked out of this mechanized Empire. And Maul’s like, ‘Is this right? Is this the universe we were trying to build?’”

Darth Maul, a Sith Lord for the people :p.

It is getting a 5 issue prequel comic, Shadow of Maul, starting on March 3. It is written by Benjamin Percy and drawn by Madibek Musabekov. It reveals Maul’s plan is to rebuild his criminal syndicate on Janix, "a planet untouched by the Empire.” The comic also introduces Captain Brander Lawson and a droid named Two Boots.

"Maul: Shadow Lord Starts Its Imperial March On April 6"

"The next Star Wars toon is all Maul, all the time…look out for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord on Disney+ this spring.

After departing with the Empire, Maul dropped the “Darth” from his moniker and set out to make a name for himself. The series will be about that journey, as he “[plots] to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire.” The storyline takes place between The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.

Thanks to this week’s new trailer and the accompanying press release, we now know the planet is called Janix, and according to executive producer Matt Michnovetz, it is “one part Gotham, one part Metropolis and a hundred percent Star Wars with all these different levels and layers. It’s a city essentially built into a crater on this planet that is untouched by the Empire. It’s got a functioning democracy and law enforcement doing a good job of policing their own community. It’s a rich environment for crime and gangsters, but so far there’s been a very peaceful accord between all of them in the interest of business.”"

A trailer was posted.

Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord premieres on April 6 as a two-episode event exclusively on Disney+.

The animation is absolutely gorgeous and Maul looks as vicious and engrossing as ever :D!

I didn't expect Jedi characters, but it seems like Maul takes the Twi'lek under his wing (Darth Talon?) and that will probably end well O_o.

Hey, it's Marrok! And that Inquisitor Ahsoka fought! If the Emperor is prioritizing taking Maul down, it's inevitable he's going to fight Vader at this rate .

Is that Joan Cusack voicing Jessie in that Toy Story Papa John's commercial? If so, it sounds rough. Woundn't surprise me if it wasn't, though.
