Digimon thread

A lot of people complain about the second half of 02. Well, the reason for that is the writers were expecting a third season and were going to extend the overall story well into that. But Toei made them wrap things up prematurely.

I remember reading about that a long time ago! Does anyone know who put that out, though?

One of the Toei writers said that.

Not that I don't believe you, but where did you hear that?

...if you can't tell, I don't pay attention to the fandom like I used to and haven't in years.

Digimon Movies

While we're on the subject what was your favorite Digimon movie?
I know alot of hardcore fans hated the American bastardization which was Digimon: The Movie (especially the last half when they completely changed the plot) but I did enjoy Our War Game it had an excellent mix of action and suspense and the appearance of Omnimon sealed the deal. Next would have to be the Frontier movie which was better than the actual series and last would be X- Evolutions.

I think Our War Game is first, with Runaway Locomon coming in at a close second. I really haven't seen many of the others, but I did not enjoy Hurricane Touchdown much.

I loved Our War Game, mostly because of the epicness of Omnimon, which was pretty much the inspiration for Jogress. I also loved Hurricane Touchdown, but if you don't like 02, that's understandable. Still, I think Magnamon is pure win, and the combination of him and Rapidmon was even nicer.

I'm pretty sure Our War Game is everybody's favorite :p

Hurricane Touchdown was alright. It wasn't the best but it was just a generic Digimon movie which was okay. As for Diaboromon, it had a lot of good parts (The ending) but somewhat seemed too short.

Battle of Adventurers wasn't all that and Runaway Locomon gave some much needed Ruki screentime which probably automatically puts it in my top five.

Island of Lost Digimon sucked. Sorry, I just didn't like it.

"Ultimate Power. Invoke Burst Mode" was really good since it was from beginning to end the Rookies kicking digi-ass without evolutions. Something you very rarely get to see. The problem was that

1) No Ikuto
2) Masaru breaking out just didn't seem to make a lot of sense
3) Too freaking short. This was more like a really long episode.

Also, I really like Revenge of Diaboromon's poster (especially Miyako's pose. It looks so cute)

Iori's face in that is just screaming out "I have no character whatsoever" :p

Our War Game was easily the best, the most action-packed of the bunch. I honestly wasn't a fan for the movies after Revenge of Diaboromon. Haven't seen "Burst Mode."

I've been rewatching the Myotismon arc, and I found it amusing how many powers he has that just come out of nowhere. He's like the Piccolo of Digimon. First he can shoot off a legion of bats and attack with whips of red energy. Then toward the end of the arc he can shoot black energy from his cape, white energy balls from his hand, blow attacks away, send objects flying random directions with a wave of his hand, and the kicker: dissipate the attacks of five Ultimates before they even reach him, despite the fact that he had to struggle to fend off one at the beginning of the storyline. He's like some kind of swiss army knife.

Revenge of Diaboromon and X-Evolution have always been my favorite of the movies.

Annnnd figured I would ask since I've never seen a proper answer to this, does anyone know why the Adventure/02 movies had such a radically different animation style compared to the series and why it wasn't carried on with the other movies?

Well as the ultimate antagonist of the Adventure series, Vamdemon/Myotismon better have some nifty tricks. That title should belong to Daemon, but he decided to give up on that whole evil thing and start making computer software. :p

That's because the movie had a different director from the TV seris. Mamoru Hosoda (Summer Wars, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) directed the Digimon movies for the first two seasons starting with Digimon Adventure, Our War Game, Hurricane Touchdown, and Revenge of Diaboromon he also directed episode 21 of the original Digimon.

Was I the only one who was kind of disturbed by Arukenimon and Mummymon's death at the end of 02? It was pretty grim for a kids show.

Very much so, yes.

Another one of those shining moments in the dub

Oh god yes, that scared me as a kid especially when Malomyotismon was just torturing her, Mummymon got it easy.

Yes, Beliavamdemon is one sadestic person. It add to it, what they represented, they were both parts of Oikawa's soul, Beliavamdemon killed off parts of a man's soul.

And it tops the cruality of Pumpmon and Gotsumon's death.

The writers did an excellent job with that, it made sad and even angry over the deaths of two unreformed villains.

Hmm I never knew that piece of info. Hate it when that happens. I still enjoyed 02, I just thought the ending was strange. Maybe I don't remember it so good anymore, though. I just remember from the dub, a lot of people who I talked to who enjoyed Digimon were all confused over it. I would have enjoyed a third season.

I must jump into this thread now...I do love all seasons of Digimon pretty much equally. I haven't really been all that active in the fandom for a few years, but I still love it anyway. :) I have waaay too many Digimon characters I like to even list. You can probably already tell one of them just by my username, though. ;)

Digimon stuff I've collected over the years is the largest group of anything I've ever collected in all my years, outnumbering even my Transformers collection.

I really need to stop and do a rewatch of the series and movies one day in the future. My last big thing so far was Savers and then I kind of fell out for a couple years...

(*sigh* i want that 6th season someday :()

Anyway, what was everybody's favorite opening? I personally have a penchant toward Biggest Dreamer since it was the first one I ever heard. (I was fairly new to anime in its native language at the time so I was like "Whaaa this isn't that repetitive one!" :p)

I gotta give props to Disney for making Frontier's opening, you know, not the same one as the others and came off as pretty authentic. Keeping the "ancient spirit" theme in the music anyway.

I loved all of the Touma centric episodes in Savers, the writers wrote some great stuff when they focused on him. Taking nothing away from Masaru and his story, but I loved the episodes that centered around Touma.

Weather is was when MetalPhantomon made him rewatch the death of his mother. That was an intense episode, that brought tears to me everytime I watch it. Or when he and Nanami had their final battle. But my favorite has to be when he reconciled with his dad and defeated Rhondoknightmon. I loved the whole backstory of the Norstein family and the disfunctional history.

I just wished we got to meet Relena's mother, did Touma ever meet her? I bet she was a kind person, Relena had to get that kindness from someone and lord knows it is not from her father's side of the family. Though their dad is not really a bad guy, he is just cold and short tempered, and spineless when it comes to his mother.

I have another theory as for why Johnny Bravo is neglected by CN nowadays. Putting aside the basic concept, it's the retools that made the show chaotic.
