Digimon thread

Well, back in the day, there were a lot of 02 supporters. There still probably are some out there, though I can't honestly say I was a great 02 fan as I was of Adventure and Tamers, because of the many bad plot twists that plagued the series post the Kaiser's fall *coughOikawascontrollingKen* *coughVamdemoncomesbackfromthebleedingnowhere* *cougheverydamnkidontheplanethasadigimonandischosencough*.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I enjoyed some of Frontier, though the continuous "epic fail" moments in the Royal Knights arc - JUST being beaten - were rather annoying, and with its deliberate reversion to the more childish concepts of the Adventure series, Frontier wasn't as good as Tamers.

Well for whatever reason, it looks like 02 supporters are now few and far between, at least on this forum.

I will say that I feel about as negative towards Frontier as most people, mainly because it seemed to destroy what I loved most about Digimon, which was the partnerships between the Digimon and their Digidestined. Both seasons of Adventure focused on this, and Tamers did for the most part, although certain events later in the season did seem to inspire what would become the basis of Frontier.

02 over-despised? If anything, 02 is overrated, the Kaiser arc was very well written, but the series seriously tanked after episode 38, I enjoyed the Kaiser's arc (even with the plothole of why Ken, a nice guy, never feels any regret for the sort of "games" he "plays") it still gets a lot more praise online than it deserves.

To look at it one way, there are games in which your character can hurt (Who Framed Roger Rabbit for the Nintendo) or kill the good guy/civilian (Goldeneye 007 for the N64).

If a player finds amusement at firing a pixelated civilian character, does that diminish the fact that they are nice?

As far as Ken was concern, he was dealing with pixels. Advanced ones sure, but pixels nonetheless.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I enjoyed some of Frontier,

Why should you? The important thing is that you receive entertainment value from the show. Heck, I enjoy watching Donkey Kong Country, a cartoon so bad that the companies involved tried to deny the existence of.

Everyone's Furry for Renamon

And it dosn't help that she was voiced by Mari Devon, who gave the sexiest voice in Tamers.

No foolin'... that voice hmm...

Tailmon's Japanese voice is pretty nice too.

Yeah, well, even so, if Ken truly is the nice guy he's portrayed as after his run as the Kaiser, I don't buy it that he would inflict harm on other creatures, living or artificial, without regret. Given that he can hear, see, feel and smell the Digital World, it's particularly implausible that he wouldn't feel some regret for relieving his stress in that sort of fashion, if he really is such a nice guy. Heck, it's not exceptionally believable that he doesn't regularly think to himself, "even if this truly is a game, maybe what I'm doing is wrong."

As for why I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I like Frontier: because it deliberately reverted to the more childish concepts of Adventure after Tamers' mature concepts.

And I never heard anything that the creators for DKC try to deny its existence....

You're not alone. I'm sure a lot of people found Frontier at the very least relatively decent as they caught up with the concept. Royal Knights arc just killed it is all.

Tailmon's Japanese voice is such a freaking tease :p (Now, that's the adult level)

Man I haven't watched Digimon in years. Season 1 was great, though parts of the dub sucked-I knew as a kid that a bad guy wouldn't send a henchman to "A Digi Dungeon" for his incompetance- Season 2 didn't feel right, and never watched Digimon again after Season 3. It would be cool if they could redub Season 1 and release it for DVD.

I enjoyed season 2 after the Kaiser arc, personally. He was an interesting character, but I think the arc dragged on a little too long.

Now the BlackWarGreymon arc, that was fun. I don't know why I enjoyed it so much, I guess it was just kind of fun never knowing if the Digidestined were going to win or lose each battle.

Not a huge fan of the Dark Spore arc. I don't think the series fell apart, though; it was when everything came to a head. And Myotismon's return was definitely a huge plot twist that came out of nowhere, but he's my favorite villain, so I'm not complaining.

I think a lot of complaints the viewers have over 02 is the epilogue.

I can see why. I mean, they'd stay friends, but....as time went on, they'd drift apart. Quoting a friend, "it almost felt like they never grew up."

That, and Sorato/Kenyako. Sorato was, surprisingly, the more despised of the two, but at least they had something - Kenyako was out of a hat, and disgusting. Once again quoting my friend, "yeah, Ken did some pretty bad things when he was the Kaiser, but he doesn't deserve THAT!"

You think Kenyako was out of a hat? Miyako had a fangirl crush on Ken when he was first introduced, so I'd say they had something--not much more than a shallow crush, but still something.

Yamato and Sora had more or less no chemistry or anything throughout the whole of Adventure 01, and then suddenly toward the end of 02 they're dating? Now THAT'S out of a hat.

Well, okay, not so much out of a hat as this: Ken never showed a drop of interest in Miyako, and after the Kaiser arc ended, her feelings for Ken just...disappeared. Then, when they haven't shown interest in each other in nearly 30 episodes worth of time, the writers go and put them back together.

And yes, Sorato was a bit more out of a hat - point is, at least they had a relationship going on, even though I can see why it's disliked as much as it is.

My assumption was that in both cases, they developed their relationships with each other after their "main series" ended.

But yeah, they are both fairly random. Nothing rocks the world of shipping like making a coupling canon and having them marry. :p

Eh, it still grated on many a fan's nerves, and still does to this day. I mean...Miyako was just an immature fangirl, crushing on whatever boy she happens to come across; Ken was traumatized over his brother's loss and was using what he believed to be a game as an outlet for his stress (though it's inconceivable he wouldn't do so without regret). Even with all the interest Miyako had in him earlier on, it just disappeared, and didn't seem likely ever to come up again in the characters' lives.

Sorato was infuriating to many fans - it doesn't get to me as much as it did to some, but I still can't say I like it much. I mean hell, half the fanbase at the time were probably in favor of Taiora; I don't care if Kakudo thought it would fly better. And at least they showed active interest in each other; Kenyako was one-sided.

....though really, I think the Chosen would drift apart as they got older.

We don't really know if they stuck very close. I mean its highly probably all they do is get together once in a while, like two three times a year at best and have a picnic in the Digital World. they probably kept contact with one another but I bet they live all over the place.

Were Sora and Matt even together in the epilogue?

Well, what my friend was getting at is that the idea of them hooking up just doesn't seem right - they were kids. They'd grow up, they'd drift apart, they'd find their own. Yeah, of course they were going to pair at least one, but crikey.

As for Sora and Yamato being together - look up the epilogue. We see Yamato talking to his son, who looks like Sora, and then Sora to her daughter, who looks like Yamato. I also read that it was confirmed by the producers they weren't divorced, though this was a long time ago; it'd probably be impossible to find confirmation by now....

I understand where you're coming from, but I don't think that you should feel embarrassed for liking a show. From most of the posts I've read about Frontier on this and other forums, most people did enjoy it, or at least some part of it, up until the Royal Knights arc came along and weaken the series' interesting spark, at least for me.

I agree. Outside of the arc's ending and a couple of episodes focused on Agumon, I didn't really find the Kaiser arc to be that interesting. It just went on a bit too long and it didn't really have much development for the characters until near the end. I liked the BlackWarGreymon arc too. I liked seeing how he searched for an answer for his existence and why he had feelings. I thought that was a nice bit of depth to the series. And unlike with how the Royal Knights arc worked in Frontier, it didn't seem so annoying to see the kids losing each battle. It probably helped that we couldn't really tell who would win in some of the battles and it didn't drag on for too long either.

I kind of liked some of the episodes in the Dark Spore arc. Though, I haven't seen those episodes in ages, despite how they're on crunchyroll right now. I do remember not really caring for the World Tour arc, even though the original kids were helping out there. I don't know why though. Maybe it didn't just seem as interesting as it was to me then on paper. I personally loved the Myotismon return plot twist. Sure, it totally came out of nowhere, but I thought that he was the best villain in 01, so I was happy with a surprise appearance.

That's certainly true. Whenever I've read discussions for 02, the epilogue is usually the one aspect of the series that had the most complaints. I can understand that since some of the pairings and jobs were weird. I was surprised that Yamatto and Sora ended up getting married since there weren't too many hints about them having feelings for each other, as apposed to Taichi and Sora all throughout Adventure 01 and the second Digimon movie. I was also surprised that Hikari and Takeru didn't end up together since I thought that it was hinted at a bit in both series.

As for Ken and Miyako, I wasn't really that bothered with it when I first saw the epilogue. It was a surprise, but not something that felt completely wrong to me either. I don't believe I thought of the crush Miyako had on Ken when she first saw his picture. It was really how she treated him after the Kaiser arc. Besides Daisuke, Miyako was one the only kids in the group that was open to Ken joining with them. Considering the epilogue takes place twenty-five years ahead in the future, that amount of time also implies that a lot of feelings could have happened or changed for the kids.

Which makes the concept of them hooking up, now that you think about it, seem a bit implausible. Ken and Miyako never showed a drop of interest in one another, apart from Miyako's idiotic infatuation with the villain who's at heart a confused boy (read: he's in elementary school), which simply went away, and I find it more realistic that they'd drift apart as time went on, go their own ways, find their own people.

So anybody seen X-Evolution?

I wouldn't say it was bad by any means but it did make me fall asleep in the middle. Probably since there was a good bit of talking in it for a Digimon movie and I didn't understand half of what was going on. (Felt like I was watching .hack :p)

So anybody seen X-Evolution?

No, I wish they would release all the movies on DVD. I've only seen the first 5, and I really want to see X-Evolution and Runaway Locomon...

Kenyako is just one of those 'childhood friend' fantasies I guess :p

In the end we never learned anything about the most important pairing of all:

Did Veemon woo Gatomon or not?!
:D
... and Runaway Locomon...

You promise we'd stay for the sunset
And when the moon shines through the darkness
We will find the path that leads us home
And on the way you...
...Maybe...
Sing me a song ...

Runaway Locomon on DVD would kick butt.
