New Cartoons on Cartoon Network = Increased ratings
Live Action on the channel = I have no idea, but I'm pretty sure it was the main reason ratings when down in the past few years.

Anyway, I'm very happy for the increased ratings. But I still worry for Toonami.

Cartoon Network and the word "up" in the same sentance. And for once that sentance is not "My hatred for Cartoon Network is going up."

Chowder, Alien Force, and Flapjack are holding their own against the competitors.

Yet they are still third, a distant third. When they become a close third, I'll run around in public with undies on my head.

One would think that since the network is aiming towards boys now, Toonami would become more dominant. Sadly, that's not the case. As of current there are only three shows airing on Toonami, only one of them with premiere episodes. We can only hope CN is waiting to pull something big out for Toonami.

I'm still hoping that Toonami will be the Friday night action block.

If you go to the Toonami forum, there is an interview with the co-creator of Toonami, Jason DeMarco. It's not looking good for Toonami.

Chowder, Flapjack, and Alien Force is I think a start of another generation of cartoons. I think 2008 is where CN is starting to get better. I don't care about how people think how bad CN is, I just think it's getting better.

The keyword here is starting. The shows you mentioned are all steps in the right direction for CN. And the Cartoonstitute should be another big step to help make the network better. However, the network is far from being the best to its potential. There's still so much they could do that they choose not to, whether it comes to promotion and design or the actual content itself. Cartoon Network is starting to get better, but it's got a long way to go before it clears up some of its distinct flaws.

Killing Toonami won't help CN at all, not when the block can still be of use if given tender loving care. Seriously neglect and executive meddling was responsible for the decline in Toonami's ratings, and the revamp did not help at all.

The lack of new episodes besides Naruto is another nail in the coffin. At least Toonami is seemingly going to get to air Doomsday . . .

It's kinda funny what you said about Doomsday because on TV when CN is advertising it they pretend like Toonami doesn't even exist. They don't mention Toonami at all, they just say "Only on Cartoon Network" and be done with it. It's a shame, Toonami is literally the oldest and most precious gem on Cartoon Network. It's pretty much collapsed by now.

The fact of the matter is that CN has basically ripped off Toonami's slogan. "Only Toonami"="Only on Cartoon Network". But then again, the ratings began collapsing in 2006 and went into complete freefall after the revamp. Perhaps CN is embarrassed of Toonami, or at least the current incarnation of Toonami, because of what happened to the block.

Though, as I said, if I were going to kill Toonami I would make it tonight. The karma fits in more ways than one. Then again, a potential death and rebirth of Toonami also fits in well with this movie too.

We'll see what happens. Superman: Doomsday might be Toonami's absolute, unquestionable last shot, lets hope it does well.

I really don't think you have a case here. Lots of channels state "only on..." when advertising something. So I don't think CN is ripping off anything, especially considering Toonami is only a block on CN.

Yeah, back when they did make Toonami promos with "Only Toonami," Cartoon Network also used "Only on Cartoon Network" for their non-Toonami promos.

Well, I wasn't saying anything about CN getting "Only on Cartoon Network" from Toonami. Toonami isn't the only place that does that. What I was getting at was that CN didn't even acknowledge the fact that the movie was being shown on Toonami, whereas say 4-5 years ago they would've done so. And Toonami is going to be on next week. Check the schedule.

Personally I don't think Superman Doomsday is a big enough movie to allow Toonami to go out on a bang. First off I didn't even see any advertisement for the movie until today; If Toonami was going to go out on a bang I would want a really really REALLY big bang. Like a whole 24 hour Toonami event showing a lot of the memorable shows that have ever been on Toonami. Think about it, if EEnE got the Best Day Edder for their last episode, shouldn't the literally oldest part of Toonami go out with an even bigger salute??

Were you watching CN for the past week? I've seen the promo many times.

Oh, well forget I said that then . Maybe it was the constant airings of Skunk Fu, Johnny Test, and George that lured me away from watching CN this week :D. But even one week of promotion wouldn't be enough to give Toonami the proper burial. If and when Toonami ends, I want an event so big that it needs to be advertised a month and a half in advance, one that looks back on the past decade (i think thats it) of Toonami. And when the event is over people will remember Toonami for what it was: The best action block that ever existed. And frankly one measly movie wouldn't be a proper goodbye gift.

I'm curious how Superman: Doomsday and the Ben 10 marathon did and what happened to Saturday's numbers as a result.

Week of 7/7-7/13:

Household Rating:

Primetime: 1,068,000(#9 for cable last week)
Total Day: 976,000(#6 for cable last week)

Viewers 2+:

Primetime: 1,432,000(#9 for cable last week)
Total Day: 1,248,000(#5 for cable last week)

We'll probably get the rest for tomorrow, but from looking at it, its a reverse from last week: Primetime was up, Total Day was down a bit.

Well, here's your answer, somewhat:

I'm pretty sure Doomsday did better with the 12-17 and 18-34 demos that CN isn't interested in instead of the 6-11/9-14 demo. I wasn't expecting a ratings smash out of Doomsday but I was expecting it to do better than it did. Then again, CN didn't start promoting it until the week it was going to air.

It does disturb me that apparently 2-5 year olds were watching Doomsday in droves.
