I am extremely curious to see how Ben 10: Alien Force did on Toonami. My theory of older kids flocking to B10:AF and the younger kids giving it a pass is being tested right now.

Well, we probably won't know how the show did individually on Toonami, but the total day ratings are out for Saturday and Sunday...

...and it's down compared to last week. The musical-themed Sunday that CN did to help promote "Animal School Musical" didn't work for them. Meanwhile, Nick continued to destroy the weekend with their shows.

I guess that CN is too kiddish even for the kiddy viewers. Make/acquire better shows, don't kick your older viewers out. Don't get hellbent on being successful, because being #1 isn't what is cracked up to be. Being #1 means you have to sacrifice a lot and air that particular show (Spongebob and ICarly on Nick, Hanna Montana and other LA crud on Disney Channel) a lot to stay there.

This is pretty bad for Cartoon Network. But I'm not really sure what the network did this week that was any different from other weeks to cause their ratings to plummet and flock to Disney Channel and Nick.

Some positive news:

In most of the charts, CN actually went up. The only down ones were primetime with 2-11. So that's good.

...CN was down double-digits compared to this time period last year. However, as you can see, the Disney Channel was also down. And the other networks to join CN with double-digit losses were Adult Swim, Toon Disney, and MTV.

They need better cartoons. They can't survive on gross-out humor and FOX acquisitions forever, and those falling ratings are proof of that.

Definitely, I couldn't agree with you more. Personally I think Adult Swim is a waste of space for Cartoon Network. It should only be like three hours long IMO. The only shows that people even watch are probably Family Guy and American Dad, which seem to be airing less and less lately. The only good original shows in my opinion were Space Ghost Coast to Coast and maybe Robot Chicken. Otherwise, the stupid sloppy animation style and gross out humor of all of their other shows were absolutely terrible.

Except they're falling with the wrong demographic. In the Anything Else thread over at the Adult Swim forums, I post the ratings for the block every week and this week, the adult ratings were up. Basically, Adult Swim is doing fine with adults, a.k.a. the group AS is targeting with.

As for being a waste of space, its one of the few bright spots on the network. They won't give up those hours because they are technically a network for ratings purposes. They need a minimum amount of hours to be considered a network.

Even if AS gave up some of those hours, CN wouldn't do much with them anyway.

Could the low ratings for Adult Swim among kids have an adverse affect on the ratings for Cartoon Network? I mean, if kids watch Nick at Night a lot, chances are they'll watch Nickelodeon more often.

I only watch NAN for Full House and Fresh Prince. That doesn't effect how often I watch normal Nickelodeon...usually.

Probably not. I mean for a while, AS was gaining with young viewers while CN was still dropping with younger viewers. I think its a case of shows on Adult Swim not appealing to kids. Which is fine since the shows weren't made with them in mind(at least the comedy side anyway).

As for Nick at Nite, its been gaining in viewers over this past year and half, thanks to reruns of George Lopez and Home Improvement. When they had a George Lopez marathon, it was a hit with kids 9-14. Basically, Nick at Nite airs shows that both kids and adults can watch together. And it seems to be working so far.

As for kids watching Nick more, it's more that kids will watch anything on Nick. Which probably explains why Nick at Nite does well with them, even though they don't target them. Another reason is that Nick at Nite ads air in the daytime during Nick. Basically for this past year, Nick has molded Nick at Nite to be similar to Nick themselves. They even made the Nick at Nite logo similar to Nickelodeon's.

That's kind of my point. Even if Nick at Nite and Nickelodeon target different audiences, there's a lot of crossover. If one does well with kids, the other will too. Kids are just less likely to turn the channel to Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, regardless of which one is currently airing. So, the ratings for Adult Swim do have some correlation to the ratings for Cartoon Network, and vice versa.

What's so ouch about this. I don't see CN's name anywhere.
"Conversely, Cartoon Network was off 9% from a 1.1."

If you're going to bring another article out like this, could you at least edit post the relevent part of it to here instead of making us read the entire thread to find it?

Just about everything on adult swim that's not a FOX acquisition or Robot Chicken is pretty much trash, at least in my honest opinion. I don't understand who is watching the nonsense they air. I just don't understand it. We've come a long way from the days of Space Ghost, Brak, Aqua Teens and Home Movies.

Boy doggies, how I miss those days, when William's Street was making daring series, not moronic. If you can say that the two best original series that a channel's ever aired weren't acutally made by the channel(in this case, Home Movies and The Boondocks), then your lead creative heads need some help.

It's probably because the people who are watching it don't think its trash and are entertained by it. But then its easy to generalize a network that I don't really like. I mean, I could say "Just about everything on Nickelodeon that's not Avatar or The Mighty B! is pretty much trash, at least in my honest opinion."
