Saban Talkback: Saturday Standstill - Saban Talkback V6

From what I heard... well, you may have heard me mention something about 4Kids wanting to air Monsuno on Toonzai, as well as Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters and Blue Dragon (and something called Beastkeeper), as well as the Bonds Beyond Time movie (which was also set to be released by A&E) as well as Yu-Gi-Oh! DM supposed to be on Nicktoons earlier, but the lawsuit destroyed all of that. 4Kids actually won the lawsuit, but thanks to it and all their business plans basically being ruined, they had no choice but to sell the block and some of their assets. Most of this came from that ravegrl site.

Kaijudo was considered for the Vortexx launch schedule, but ultimately didn't make the cut.

Honestly that's not too surprising, given the runs Transformers Prime and Chuck and Friends had (though the latter's site is still up on MyVortexx.com and the first 13 episodes are still streaming). Come to think of it, even if 4Kids had been able to make that deal, it probably would have just run the first season and vanished without a trace.

That said, it would have been one heck of a lineup if those deals had made it. We would have had Tai Chi Chasers and Zexal which were new, as well as DM which was airing the Waking the Dragons arc that had not aired in years (some of which had only aired once in the US), plus Beastkeeper which would have been new to the US, and Blue Dragon, Monsuno, maybe Kaijudo... and possibly new episodes of DBZ Kai and Magi-Nation (latter would have been more likely). That would have made a total of... well, ten new shows... actually a bit much for the lineup. Kai might have had to have been the one to wait since I'm not even sure if FUNimation had finished editing it by then (maybe switching for Kaijudo). Regardless, that totals four broadcast premieres, three shows new to the US entirely, and two CW premieres (one of which would have been new to the US eventually).

EDIT:Nevermind.

But Mr Spidey! Kaijudo is just too naughty to air on American SatAM television with its earnest examination of racism and so on! Did Saban really consider it.

I still think he knows too much for a schedule guy but I'll drop it.

Does it honestly matter? It's completely off topic and shouldn't be addressed in this thread. If people don't want me to post any insight, then I can stop.

I know. Sorry! Its just that as a journalist and a B-Daman Crossfire fan Im always looking forward for a mystery to unravel!

Sorry If I was pushy or offensive.

There's really no mystery here. He provides insight on the schedule and he is a reliable source, so there's absolutely no need to make a big deal about it. I don't think that editing your post after he had already quoted you was the best approach either, especially when you have had a history of doing that in other confrontations. Please don't do that again or I will do more than just give an in-thread warning.

Ok. I wont do that anymore.

Thanks for the insight Mr Spidey. Dont mind me.

Speaking of insight, Spidey, was The Spectacular Spider-Man considered for the initial lineup as well? Also, would it get you in trouble if you were to say anything about Sendokai Champions? Because it was announced forever ago, and not getting it is kinda getting on my nerves, regardless of quality. Is it censorship concerns or dubbing costs or what?

About Kaijudo... I know there was some racism in early episodes, I've heard of some issues of abandonment later on, but as I think I've mentioned before, a certain show aired on The WB with those issues.. Static Shock. That was awhile ago when it aired, so anything might have changed, but as we've seen on JLU compared to Digimon and DBZ Kai, the censors are less strict on western cartoons than on anime, so it might have still been a possibility.

And I think Sendokai Champions is already dubbed, because I think it's airing in some other English speaking country (UK I think)

That's interesting. It's cool how they considered a wide variety of shows for the launch lineup. However, the lineup they ended up with was pretty perfect for me! I was really impressed. Apart from the repeat of Zexal or Slam, it would've been tough to find a show to replace for it, in my opinion.

Yes, Spectacular Spider-Man was in the mix as well as Digimon Fusion, Transformers Prime, and Kaijudo. Not sure why they didn't end up on the initial lineup, but all shows eventually aired on the block except Kaijudo. With Digimon Fusion, dubbing wasn't complete at the time, so I can understand the delay.

I am honestly not sure what is going on with Sendokai Champions, but it's entirely possible that it could air before the fall despite what I previously said, though I am not too confident that it will.

I think this new Transfomers Series could air on Vortexx. I know The Hub is hurting to find original exclusives that arent MLP so Im not sure it will though.

How is it that Digimon Fusion was a candidate for the launch lineup if Saban Brands hadn't acquired the rights to the franchise at that point?

To be more specific, Digimon itself was a candidate, rather than Fusion. I'm assuming they meant Adventure, 02, Tamers, etc..

You're right, Digimon as a brand was considered, but I think there was a specific focus on Digimon Fusion as well. If you go back, Saban announced they had acquired the rights at the end of September 2012. The Vortexx block premiered at the end of August 2012. It's possible that the rights took longer to acquire than originally planned. Remember, there wasn't much time between Saban acquiring the block and the premiere in the fall, so some plans for the block had to wait until later.

He specifically said Digimon Fusion.

EDIT: Ninja'd.

What's strange about that is that they only had a couple of months to put together that great premiere lineup, but they've had trouble putting together a strong schedule for this second year when they had a lot more time.

Maybe it's just been that some of their new shows haven't quite panned out like they thought they would, like maybe B-Damon Crossfire.

B-Daman Crossire was always a last minute acquisition after talks with WWE fell apart, though.

Certainly seems that way.

...that was the case, right, Spidey?

You are right. I'm not sure why Saturday Morning Slam didn't continue, but I think the intention was to have a second season, so if the decision was made to end it at the last minute, they needed something to fill the spot and that happened to be Crossfire.

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
