WBD Acquisition Thread

The link with the acquisition of WBD is no longer alive on Netflix's website, it gives a 404 error now.

However, they still have the announcement on X posted.

Netflix's reaction is overwhelming. Give Ticking Fee if they want it. Was it worth sending this great empire to vein? Such a good catalog would have come to life with you. You've lost it and your subscribers too.

Skydance is not a household name.
And it's not even a known name. Seriously, until they acquired Paramount, I never heard of Skydance before.
A post-Ellison suitor of Paramount Global will scrub that nasty name out of everyone's minds as soon as possible.

If the AI bubble pops and takes Oracle on a painful financial ride, Larry will probably make that his priority instead of this deal, leaving David to fend for himself on funding without Oracle stock as loan collateral or pull out.

The page is still available for most of you because some of the servers that handle the site haven’t been updated yet. That’s why the site is still working for some of us.

I'm going to make this very clear that I'm not happy about the recent news and I'm worried about HBO Max, given that Ellison said that he would shut it down should the acquisition be finalised.

I never was into the "lesser of two evils" argument in relation of Netflix since I honestly just didn't want to see channels like Cartoon Network and co to separate from their would-be former parent company at all.

Comcast buying WBD, given the recent news that they considered buying the company prior to this before aborting plans, may or may not have worked, given that Peacock would've been consolidated into HBO Max and that they would've sold TNT and TBS to another company.

But anyway, I'm still not happy that Zaslav will remain in charge should this acquisition get finalised.

IMO Cartoon Network (including Cartoon Network Studios's library) should be spun off completely to Weigel, This gives it the best chance of maintaining "business as usual", and they would still have access to all their shows. (since Weigel operates the thriving MeTV Toons, which WBD is involved with).

And plus, another reason I want CN spun off is that I fear Paramount will try to downplay it in favor of Nickelodeon.

I'm curious what would happen with MeTV Toons as well, although not owned by WBD it still airs a lot of shows from its library.

I think it will be business as usual for them, Weigel would probably just pay Paramount to continue airing the Warner cartoons, and Paramount will probably let them keep airing them, seeing how well the channel is doing.

I still doubt it a lot though

Yeah I'm really upset for The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Boardwalk Empire and The Wire fans. What a loss with a lot of gritty(!) prestige(!)-drama.

HBO Max catalogue is a completely mess. There won't be any loss.

Warner Bros has been need a general entertainment streaming service from the very beginning not a Prestige-streaming service. Their's catalogue bigger than HBO.

Prestige is a branch of General entertainment not a General Entertainment's itself.

While SKYShowtime in parts of Europe is a bigger loss, the catalog is mostly empty since launch

Forgive me for not really feeling sorry for HBO Max and Cartoon Network or my unpopular opinions on prestige dramas. Even if you're uncomfortable, I think so.
