Webtoon Entertainment, Warner Bros. Animation to Co-Produce Adaptations of 10 Popular Webcomics

Webtoon Entertainment is developing a slate of 10 animated projects with Warner Bros. Animation based on Webtoon creators' webcomics.

Warner Bros. Animation has reached an agreement with the popular webcomic platform Webtoon to produce animated adaptations of 10 of its titles. The comic's authors will still retain the rights to their IPs and will receive a portion of the revenue, as per the agreement.

We don't have a complete list yet, but 4 of the 10 titles have been announced:

“The Stellar Swordmaster” by Hong Dae Ui, juno and Q10: The so-called “Lighthouse of the North,” the prosperous trading town of Schoarra, hides a dark underbelly: seedy slums ruled by five ruthless crime bosses. When streetwise orphan Vlad finds the brothel he works for decimated by a disgraced knight, he turns to the path of the blade, pledging himself to the pursuit of power by sword.

“Hardcore Leveling Warrior” by Sehoon Kim: Known as Hardcore Leveling Warrior, Ethan is the No. 1 player of the world’s biggest game, Lucid Adventure. But when a mysterious player kills Ethan and forces his character back to level 1, he will do anything to get back on top. New friends and old foes, as well as mysterious forces and his own dark past, will follow him as he does his best to take back what was once his.

“Down to Earth” by Pookie Senpai: Kade lives his average life alone and undisturbed… until a cute alien girl crashes into his backyard! By opening up his home, will this other worldly girl inadvertently open up his heart?

“Elf & Warrior” by AC Stuart, Victor Rosas II: A young half-elf discovers the challenges and gray areas involved in being a hero as he travels with his uncle’s band of miscreants and outlaws.

This is surely good news for Warner Bros.! It shows that David Zaslav isn't giving up nor has a dislike for animation, especially at WB.

The Jim Henson Company (yeah, really) has been working on that since 2019. Production has been a very slow process. The last we heard anything about it was last year when ANN interviewed the heads of Webtoon.

This is surely good news for Warner Bros.! It shows that David Zaslav isn't giving up nor has a dislike for animation, especially at WB.

This is nonetheless a huge break-off from the creator-driven traditions of Cartoon Network Studios and to a lesser extent WBA.

"Sable Curse" by Little Melon: Terron is cursed to die at 19 unless she can find a way to break the spell. Her chance may come when her family escapes society and stays at a magical estate, where she uncovers secrets among its wealthy guests that could hold the key to lifting her deadly curse.

"Snow and Briar" by M. Nires: Prince Snow, the fairest in the land, is married off to the towering Princess Briar by his scheming stepmother, who desperately wants him gone. Is Princess Briar just infatuated with him like everyone else, or does she have secrets of her own?
