The film is happening because Toy Story is a highly expendable franchise for them to milk dry every couple of years. Ironically, despite it's very positive reception by audiences its not a huge risk for them to pump out a mediocre sequel because families will eat that up regardless. Pixar hasn't been concerned with critic reviews of sequels for over a decade at this point. Now, new IP is a completely different conversation.

Well, I can’t imagine Pixar being reduced to a sequel factory permanently and being banned from producing original films all at the request King Emeritus Iger who only cares about cinematic universes for his shareholders. Elio flopping might have sealed it. Despite Hoppers making a small return but not cracking $400 million and not sure what Gatto’s future is. Toy Story is a Marvel esque franchise. Dun, dun-dun-dun! Now, Kevin Feige should go produce a live action remake only with with Pixar reduced to doing VFX work for him. Expect some uncanny valley nightmare fuel where the toys have 7 dwarves-MODOK faces.

Toy Story 5 should open with a grand Pixar logo but with Franchise characters only because Disney can mandate them to copy the Marvel Studios logo which is really Disney’s image now.

It looks OK, but I wish they'd had the guts to leave Woody out of it. Maybe by the end of the film I'll eat my words and think this was the right call, but that's been a constant feeling for me through all the marketing so far.

I also still think it's weird the evil(?) tablet seems to be modeled on LeapFrog.

I just feel they greenlit it too quickly after Lightyear flopped. It feels like this is a movie made only to appeal to shareholders.
