Teen Titans Fan Fiction The Redeemer

nice car chase, i just hope Jason broke some fingers:p

and by the wat i dont care what you say but i dont even like video games that much.

“My car! My friggin’ car! Oh you are going down!!!”

HAHAHAHHA that was just priceless, nothing like getting a guy all pissed by destroying his car :D. And WOW, cyborg really modded his car even more. Reinforced steel armour, machine guns lol. That's pretty insane.

Nice high speed chase, you can just feel the adrenaline as you read...but teh question always remains, where does Jase go from here...hmm, perhaps Slade will make a reappeareance soon.

Chocolate on a stick? I'll just buy a Mars Bar thanks.

Anyway. I've got the next chapter ready. Nothing much happening in this one, it was just a necassary filler really.

Next chapter. Just a filler really, setting the scene for the next chapter. This is the shortest chapter yet and really doesn't have a heck of a lot to it, but I feel it needed to be done.

Chapter 21: Location, Location

Doors were quickly locked. Windows instantly closed. Lights dimmed. A criminal was on the loose. Couldn’t be too careful when someone like that was about. Being Jump City, this wasn’t really an unusual thing, but people took extra care this time round.

But these people aren’t important. Why would they be? Just mindless lemmings doing as they’re told. What is important is…where the hell can you go when an entire city is on the look out for you? Such a thing was difficult, for most people. But if you were someone who knew what you were doing, who knew the city, its alleyways, its run-down buildings, and someone who knew a few people, then you should be pretty safe. Luckily for Jason…he was one of them.

Limping around the next corner, he came face-to-face with the man who would help him. The alley was (obviously) dark, and it was hard to see the features of the man. But from what Jason could see, he was around the same height, wearing a black baseball cap, a dark brown jacket and blue jeans. A pair of black Aviator sunglasses.

“About time you got here. I’ve been waiting for over half an hour.”

“Hey. I had to shake off the Titans, and the police, and limp all the way here with a broken arm, a broken foot and a body covered with bruises!”

“Fair enough man.”

“Have you found a place I can go?”

“Yeah. It doesn’t have the best accommodation, but it should suite you just fine. C’mon. My car's just round the corner.”

Without another word the man turned and walked away. Jason limped pathetically after him. The fall from the car had done a lot more than he had expected. But a few broken bones weren’t going to stop him.

The guy’s car wasn’t exactly in the best condition, but as long as it got him from A to B, he seemed happy. The man was already in the car by the time Jason reached the passenger’s door. Carefully he slid inside and slammed the door.

“Let’s go.”

******

Jason’s temporary ‘home’ was situated at the old docks. A perfect place, seeing as they were rarely used anymore. The car pulled up to Warehouse 15. It was in pretty good condition. It nearly had all its windows intact!

“Okay Jason. Here’s the key. If you need anything else, call me with this mobile phone.”

The man handed him the phone. It was outdated by about 7 years now, but it suited its purpose just fine.

“Number’s already on there.”

“Thanks.”

Jason slowly got out and headed toward the back door of the Warehouse. Just before he entered, the man shouted out something from his car.

“What are you planning to do?”

“I like dealing with my problems head on. Take them down before they take me. The Titans…have become a problem…”

“Ha! Good luck with that kid.”

“Yeah, thanks. I’ll be seeing you around…Johnson. You can count on it.”

Johnson gave a nod of approval before starting up the engine and disappearing round the corner. He was by himself again. Just how he liked it. No-one to get in his way. No-one to annoy him. No-one to distract him and no-one to read his mind! But now wasn’t the time. He had a fight to prepare for…

no one to read his mind...that's pretty good....but it was short....almost as short as my chapters...or are mine longer? i dont know, and my headache dosent help it much....

Yeah, short but good. I give Jason maybe ten minutes before he's found by A: The Titans, B: The cops, or C: Slade. Or all of 'em at the same time. Either way, he's in trouble.

Yeah, I'm going to agree with the above posts. . .Yeah, I don't think things are going to slow down for Jason at all. When you have an entire city after you, how long can you keep yourself hidden? Short but sweet chapter NI. Now bring the next one quickly.:anime:

looks like Jason's found some time to rest hehe, after all that hectic stuff ;) i don't mind the shortness of the update, it was pretty good.

Now. I bet Slade's already in the safehouse with him...mUHAHAHAHHA. Knowing Slade, who needs to waste energy chasing when you can just cut them off at the pass :D

As for your next update, meh, i'm patient :p

Well its nice to know that someone has patients. Unlike some people I know *stares coldly at Karina*

...Anyway! That doesn't matter now...seems as I've got the next chapter...right here. This is basicly telling you how Jason intends to go about beating a certain group of people...I'm not saying any names here...¬.¬ (keeping the obvious a secret is always hard)

Chapter 22: Preparation

“Anything?”

“Nothing. No trace. No witnesses. Its like he just turned into a shadow and disappeared.”

“Thanks Chief.”

Robin closed down the intercom and slouched down into the chair. The young hero placed his hand upon his forehead.

“How can someone just…disappear?”

The other Titans stood not far behind him, each one with a determined look on their face. Cyborg stepped forward and placed his hand on Robin’s shoulder.

“Don’t worry man, we’ll find him.”

******

So much space. So many unused things lying about…so many rats! This Warehouse hadn’t been used in what seemed like decades. Even from simply walking Jason would kick up a cloud of dust. A slight breeze came in from the many broken windows, as did light from the moon, providing what little light Jason used to get around the place. The rest of the windows were covered with some kind of algae.

On each side of the massive warehouse were crates full of odd things. A set of stairs led to a small office, most likely used by the manager. As Jason took a few more steps, some rats scurried out of his path. The boy’s footsteps echoed through the building, as did the sound of falling water. Jason went over to the light switch and flipped it…nothing happened. He continued to flick it up and down till eventually the lights flashed to life. Well…at least for a few seconds before the old things gave way and blew a fuse, throwing him back into shadow.

“Well that’s just great.”

He shuffled his foot slightly and hit something. Looking down he found that a large torch had been left behind. The boy quickly picked it up and switched it on. He waited a few seconds, but nothing happened. He held it so that the light was facing toward his face and hit it twice on the side. Somehow this managed it to suddenly burst to light, nearly blinding him. Jason quickly turned it away and smiled.

“Now that is great.”

He scanned the area with the light, coming across a rat every now and then. Slowly Jason walked over to an empty crate, and carefully placing the torch on the ground, he picked up the wooden crate and turned it over. He placed one his bags on the crate and the other next to it, he also set a bucket by it upside down. Sitting down on the bucket, he unzipped the bag and tipped out its contents. Five Titan communicators fell onto the crate. He had managed to take them just before he left. Jason picked the torch back up and looked around.

“I need a screwdriver.”

******

It had been two days since Johnson had dropped Jason off at the warehouse and the kid was already calling him back. The strange thing was that he had asked for him to bring a cage. He hadn’t bothered to ask what it was for and simply just did what was asked of him. Soon he came to the back door of the building. Gently he knocked on it twice and waited.

“Jason…its me. Open up.”

Slowly the door creaked open slightly and once Jason had seen that it was in fact Rob, that’s Johnson to you and me, he opened the door all the way and Robert quickly entered. It was the late hours of the day, but the sun was still just about in the sky, so the lighting inside the building was pretty good. Rob looked at Jason once and gave him a mocking look.

“Gee kid…you’re a mess.”

You don’t know how true this was. He hadn’t washed his hair in days, and obviously hadn’t bothered to care for it at all since he left the tower. His beard had grown even more. His eyes were bloodshot to the point where they were almost entirely red. The once black trench coat he wore was now covered in dust and dirt. So yeah…he really was a mess. But he didn’t care.

“Have you got the cage?”

“Yeah. But I’m curious…what do you need it for?”

The boy singled him to follow. The two walked over to a crate and peered in. Jason had placed five rats in there.

“There used to be seven…but…well…”

Rob gave him a disturbed look.

“What? A guy’s gotta eat and I only had one piece of bread left…and it was mouldy.”

“Christ Jason! Are you trying to kill yourself?!”

The boy was going to make an answer, but he really couldn’t be bothered at the time. He simply went back over to the crate and continued to work o the communicators. With his curiosity taking over again, Robert placed the cage down and followed him. Peering over the boy’s shoulder he couldn’t help but ask:

“What are you doing with those?”

Not stopping his work, Jason quickly answered.

“An old friend once told me that luck favours the prepared. I’m just taking out the tracking devices from these communicators. Mine broke when I jumped from my car and I made sure these one’s had been disabled before I left.”

“Yeah but…what are they for?”

“Well I can’t just take the Titans without being prepared.”

“So you’re going to get rid of the Teen Titans?”

“Just long enough for me to get out of this city. I can handle the police just fine, but it’s very unlikely I’ll be able to shake the Titans on open roads.”

“Well I hope you make it kid. Good luck.”

Rob held out his hand. Jason stopped what he was doing and looked up at the man. He grasped it tightly and the two shook hands firmly.

“You too. I’ll see you around…you can count on it.”

With that Rob left and Jason continued with his work…

******

No word. Nothing. They still couldn’t find him. Like a needle in a haystack. The Titans were scattered through the Tower going about their own business, whether it was working to find Jason or not.

Raven sat alone in the living room, reading one of her many books. Everything was silent till, unexpectedly, the phone began to ring. It wasn’t very often that someone used the phone to reach the tower, but it did happen. Slowly she put down the book and answered the phone.

“Hello?”

“Hello, Raven. It’s been a while.”

“Jason?”

“A good guess. I hope everyone is in good health.”

“What do you want?”

“It’s not what I want. It’s what you want. You and your friends have been looking for me constantly. I’m ready now.”

“Ready for what?”

“I’m at the old docks,” there was a long pause between the two “Come and get me…”

Firsties.

Wow, Jason's really gone.....downhill lately. Eating rats!? the least johnson could do is give him a non mouldy peace of bread or a klondike bar :) or perhaps Jason couldve stole some food, he seems resourceful enough.

But wow, that was pretty creepy. Holing yourself up in a warehouse for two days tinkering with toys and traps ;). I wonder though, What is Jason planning on doing AFTER he escapes? Go after Slade? :D

'Ready' to fight the Titans? (shakes head) Poor, poor Jason. Or, poor, poor Titans, if his plan is as good as he seems to think it is.

"Come and get me. . ." That line was just so. . .well. . .perfect. To have the chapter end like that just really set the tone for everything else that's going to happen(like the inevitable fight with a certain group). Jason seems to have the right type of head on his shoulders to go against the Titans. . .but brains aren't everything. Does he have the brawn? Kudos on the chapter, brilliant set up(in more than one way).:anime:

PS: He-He ate rats? That was disgusting, but timed just perfect.

Random deaths you say? Well, you shall have to wait and see. There's plenty more to come yet

Anyway. I think you'll be happy to know I have Chapter 23 right here. Enjoy!

Chapter 23: Hide ‘n’ Seek

Needless to say that as soon as they had found out where he was, the Titans were on the move. They had wasted no time whatsoever in arriving at the battlefield, or the old docks as it were. They had been given a specific place to find him at, but as we know, it’s more than likely he’ll find them first. The docks were indeed an eerie setting. A strange fog slowly wisped about their feet as the five teens moved on cautiously. The sound of a bell ringing in the wind could be heard not far off.

Eventually they came to a wide-open space with many alleys to choose from. Wooden crates were scattered about the place and imposing old warehouse loomed overhead. The night sky was cloudy and the air cold. A gust of wind accompanied their arrival at the opening. Cyborg had attempted to find Jason using the tracking device, but it wasn’t working…till now. A red dot appeared on the wrist screen map.

“We’ve got a lock.”

The other Titans pulled out their communicators and checked the small maps on their screens.

“Okay Titans lets…”

“Wait…something’s happening…”

Suddenly four more dots followed after the first and now there were five on the screen. The Titans were…baffled to say the least.

“How the hell did he do that?!”

“I don’t know. I don’t care. Just split up and find him! If something goes wrong, we meet back here.”

These were the simple orders from Robin. Of course as with all other things, it was easier said than done. They were about to find out just how true this was…

******

Everything was set. He had all that was needed ready and the Titans were on their way. Just a few final preparations and he would be done. Jason picked up the cage that now contained the five rats and made sure that he had all his weapons with him. Who knows…they might be able to do something.

Making one last check of the dingy warehouse. The boy was about to turn and leave until a flicker of light caught his attention. Over on the other side there was something reflecting light. Jason carefully placed the cage down and walked over to the strange object. Upon picking it up he found it was a curved piece of metal…in the shape of an ‘s’. What the hell was it for? Where had it come from? The boy was about to make a comment, but was interrupted by the sound of movement coming from the office overhead. He quickly snapped his head in its direction, but found nothing.

The boy gave his surroundings a worried look, before briskly walking back over to the cage and picking it up again. Jason placed the piece of metal in his pocket and exited the building. He didn’t think much of what had just happened at the moment, he had more immediate and important things to think about…the Titans.

Jason quickly walked down the alley till he came out at a wide-open space. Fog wisped about his feet and the wind bite at his face. Taking a look around, he set the cage down and let the rats free. Each went their separate way, off into the darkness. With a smile on his face, Jason tuned about and headed toward a set of fire steps leading to the roof of another warehouse. Once at the top, he situated himself behind one of the vents and looked down at the space below.

Only minutes past till the Titans made their entrance into his little ‘den’. They were all so tight and cautious, it was quite amusing to watch. Jason slowly pulled out his own communicator and looked at the map on his screen. A small device followed this with a red button on top. Looking at the Titans once then back at the screen again, he pressed the button. A single ‘M’ shaped blip appeared on the map. A grin spread across his face as he saw the Titans over confident reaction. This was soon ended as he pressed the button again and another four ‘M’s appeared on the map.

Now his opponents did exactly what he knew, and wanted them to do. They split up. Now it was a ‘simple’ matter of taking them down one by one. He had really impressed himself this time. There was a certain someone who he had been wanting to beat to a bloody pulp for a while now, and so Robin was the first on his list…

******

He was getting closer he could feel it. That…and he could see it on the map. The ‘M’ had stopped moving and was just around the next corner. But what he found was quite different from Jason. Turning the corner sharply, the Boy Wonder had his Bo Staff deployed and ready. But nobody could ever be on guard for this…Robin was met by nothing but a rat. On it’s neck it had a little device tied around it, which was flickering red.

Before he could even react, a quick movement behind caught his attention. But upon turning around, he found nothing but the shadows. Another movement went overhead, and yet again there was nothing to be found. Then he heard shuffling behind him. Spinning around he attempted to hit who he knew was Jason with his staff, but was stopped by a sturdy grasp. Before Robin could do anything he received a sharp blow to the gut and then another to the side of his head. Jason yanked the metal staff from his hands, picked him up by the collar and threw the Boy Wonder into the closest wall.

The young hero slumped down to the floor. Jason leant over him and smiled.

“How disappointing.”

Jason little victory was interrupted. The sound of Cyborg’s voice could be heard coming from Robin’s communicator. Just for interrupting him, the tin man got the honour of being the next one.

******

“Robin. Come in Robin! Hey man, are you okay?”

A few moments of silence gave him the conclusion that he wasn’t going to get an answer.

“Guys we’ve lost Robin, and my lead was a no go. I’ve just come to a dead end. How abo…”

But he was interrupted as someone grabbed him by the shoulders and flung him about seven feet through the air. Slowly he got back up and looked at his assailant.

“Jason…What did you do with Robin?!”

“The same thing I’m going to do with you.”

After that comment Cyborg had pretty much decided that talk was ultimately cheap. Now it was time to open a whole can of whoop ass. He clenched both fists and made a bull charge at Jason. But as we know, this was unlikely to work. Indeed…it didn’t. Jason simply side stepped and as Cyborg went past, he hit him on the head and tripped him up. The lumbering Titan fell flat on his face, but was soon back on his feet. He should have stayed down, for the second he got up, Jason began to send a fury of punches at him. The boy hit Cyborg in the face as hard as he could, but the Titan still didn’t fall. He was dazed yes, but he still stood his ground.

As a last attempt Jason placed the palm of his hand on Cyborg’s chest. Charging up his glove, Jason sent a pulse of electricity at the Titan from point blank. A sound much like a sonic boom rang out through the alley, and Cyborg smashed into the wall behind him.

With the second Titan buried under a pile of rubble, Jason was convinced he had won this fight also. Just three more to go…Starfire was next.

******

She had found her target, but it too was just a rat. A big one at that. It had surprised her so much, that she ha killed it with a bolt. Now the girl wandered down the alleys in search of her friends. Suddenly her communicator went off. Looking at the screen she saw Raven’s face.

“Starfire. Get back to the meeting point. This is all one big trap. He’s already got Robin an…”

The girl was cut short however, as a blue bolt flew out from the shadows and hit the communicator out of her hand. Starfire reeled back and looked to where it had come from. Charging up two bolts of her own, the alien readied herself.

“Please friend. I do not wish for us to fight…”

No reply was given. No movement. No sound. Nothing. She looked at the spot with a worried face, but soon she got her answer. But the voice came from behind her…

“Good. Makes it easier for me then.”

Starfire jumped around, but as soon as she did, Jason had grasped her by the neck. He held her there for a few seconds before throwing her into a stack of wooden crates. Jason didn’t enjoy what he was about to do, but it was necessary for his own survival. In two strides he reached the girl and picked her up with both hands. Bringing her to eye level he head butted Starfire in the face, then kneed her in the gut. Hitting her once in the face with his right hand, Jason then threw her with all his might.

It was done and everything was going well. So now there were two. Jason had over heard the small conversation over the communicator. He would cut off Beast Boy before he got there. He would have to deal with Raven back at the starting point.

******

“Oh man. Ah crap. What’s going on?”

Beast Boy mumbled worriedly to himself as he sprinted back to the meeting place. He, like all the others, had found nothing but a rat. They had fallen right into Jason’s trap.

A loud crash behind immediately caught his attention. He jumped around with a terrified expression on his face. There was no one there. Still the boy stood at the ready and stared into the shadows. His heart began to race faster and faster. Expecting the worse he clenched both fists, but what came out at him was…relieving to say the least. A small alley cat darted out from the shadows and ran past him.

With a slight smile on his face Beast Boy exhaled loudly and scratched his head.

“Get a grip Beast Boy.”

But even as he turned around, something he wasn’t expecting happened. A fist came flying out from the shadows at a rate that seemed faster than light. The green hero hadn’t even turned properly and landed in an awkward position. He hit the floor causing a cloud of dirt to rise up. But his assailant wasn’t done. Picking up Beast Boy by the neck, Jason slammed him against the wall and began to pummel him.

Once he was sure that Beast Boy was done, he let him fall to the ground. Now there was just one. This one would be much harder, that he knew…

******

The girl stood alone in the wide-open space. She had been waiting for five minutes, and the others were yet to turn up. No one was answering their communicators, so there was only really one conclusion…she was next. Raven knew this very well, and was ready. Though at first glance it would not appear so, she was.

The same fog wisped about on the floor, and the same wind howled through the alleys. But now…it began to rain. In a matter of seconds it was hammering down, and it was now that he came. Not even bothering to turn around, she spoke.

“You’re not going to shoot me Jason,” slowly she turned and faced him. Indeed the boy was pointing one of his Colt 45s at her “You won’t even hurt me.”

Jason showed nothing, no anger, no surprise, why should he? She was right. But he couldn’t admit to that.

“Oh really? What makes you so sure?” he cocked the gun so it was ready to fire “I’ve killed plenty of people. What makes you any different?”

The girl slowly walked over to him. Gently she placed her hand on the gun and lowered his hand. She pushed her body up against his and before Jason could do anything, Raven kissed him. But at the same time she took the gun from his hand. The two held the kiss for what seemed like an age, but eventually Raven broke of. Jason was…shocked to say the least. He hadn’t expected that to happen. True, he had wanted it to, but it was unexpected.

“Does that mean…”

“Yes. But unfortunately, we’ve chosen bad timing.”

It was only now that he noticed the gun was gone. Now his face turned to anger.

“You tricked me!”

“I wish I didn’t have to. You have to believe me Jason…I wanted…”

But she was cut off. Now their plan had come into effect. What plan you ask? Well, to trick Jason into thinking his plan was working. The other four Titans had now encircled the boy. This couldn’t be happening. Could it? He had been outwitted by the Titans. The four Titans were at the ready, but Raven still stood with a sorrowful look on her face, and Jason still stared coldly at her.

“I…I’m sorry Jason.”

He gave no answer, but gritted his teeth and clenched his fists. Jason looked around him. Robin stepped forward slightly.

“Its over Jason. Just give up. You’ve lost!”

“No…this has only just started. Like anyone should, I have a fall-back. Time for Plan B.”

Before the Titans could react, they were enveloped in smoke as Jason set off one of the smoke bombs he had stole. Pulling out the grapple hook, Jason fired it at the nearest roof and was yanked into the air. Yet again he was on the run from the Titans.

Once the smoke had cleared, the Titans looked about till they came across Jason. Robin pointed in his direction and shouted the same old order.

“Titans, Go!”

See? I knew he couldn't win. However, there's still Plan B....and Slade....this ain't gonna end well....

I twitched too. And my eye did this weird thing. And then i read the rest of the chapter. I thought Jason was going to beat them...:p Anyways...Good fight scene, wanna see some more though.

He took Starfire down a tad too easy IMO. hehe but that was pretty sweet, predator-style fighting there :) i dunno, it just reminds me of it.

And in the end, all that effort is for nothing. Nice to see the Titans using their brains as well as their powers :D

And Plan B? pfft...not when Slade is still in the picture.

It was interesting to see the Titans come up with a plan against Jason. . .I honestly didn't see that coming(even though, as DSVII said, they went down a bit easy). That was brilliant, to tell you the truth, even though I wanted Jason to pummel them. . .of course I'm psycho like that. I agree that he was so very close to defeating them. . .The moment with Raven and Jason together was really kinda heart breaking; it makes me wonder if Raven actually did like him. She did say that she was sorry, so. . .yeah. I can't wait to see where this leads.

PS: Diehard rules! John McClaine is one of the greatest heroes(antiheroes?)ever! Cool avatar NI.

Well, here it is people. Chapter 24. I think the ending could have been done better, and some other things too but let's see what youz thinkz.

Chapter 24: Catch me if you can

It was always good to have a Plan B. Because not only did you always seem to have to use it, but for some reason it usually worked, so really it should have been Plan A. But Jason didn’t really have a Plan B…sure he said he did, but we all lie. He was just making sure it looked like he had one. Though jumping from roof to roof with five very angry teenagers following after you isn’t much of a plan. He just needed to get back to the city centre. It was big enough to lose the Titans and so for now he just tried to keep the pace.

His legs pumped faster and faster, but he hardly broke a sweat. Another gap between buildings came and going as fast as he was, it doesn’t really leave you with much time to think. Who knew the phrase “Think before you jump” could actually be used literally as well? Well think he didn’t, jump he didn’t. Unfortunately to get to the next roof he first had to go down a ten foot drop. Let’s just say he got an A for style…but probably an F for landing. Jason landed on his side and almost broke his arm. He managed to roll back to his feet and was on the run once again. He didn’t even check to see where the Titans were for fear that they were right behind him.

The current building he was situated on had no other near by to leap on, but luckily it was a single story building. Jason dropped down with great ease and came to a road. This road marked the end of the old docks and the start of the new buildings. Massive sky scrappers that challenged the sky in height. The boy instantly darted into the shadows of these buildings, but too late, for what he didn’t know was that the Titans were in very close pursuit. Closer than he had hoped…

******

The five Titans followed as best they could, and to be honest they did a very good job of it. Raven, Starfire and Beast Boy who had morphed into an eagle, had taken to the skies. Robin followed Jason across the roof tops and Cyborg was close behind on the ground. All of them had a good view of Jason. The rain continued it’s seemingly endless onslaught. This not only made it harder to see, but to run also. The floor had swiftly become slippery and the puddles ankle deep. But through it all the chase continued.

Eventually they came to the end of the docks and back to the new buildings. They were close enough to Jason to watch him go down an alleyway. The team silently agreed to split up once more and attempt to head him off. Raven, Starfire and Beast Boy flew over the buildings, while Robin and Cyborg went down two alley ways that ran parallel to the one Jason had gone down. Every once in a while they would come across an alley that ran through each one, and a simple glimpse to the right showed Robin that he was catching up with Jason, as he saw the boy run pas at around the same time as himself. What he didn’t know however was that Jason had seen him too and taken the initiative. Instead of carrying on, he had stopped gone back and headed down the same alley as Robin.

Luckily the Boy Wonder had air support and they had spotted this straight away, but their warning wasn’t on time. For although he received it, he didn’t turn quick enough and was shoved into some near by dustbins. This left him some what dazed and gave Jason a nice lead. But although it looked as if things were working I Jason’s favour…they weren’t. Turning the next corner, he almost ran straight into Cyborg. The Titan gave him a cocky smile. Jason attempted to turn and run, but the tin man managed to grab him by the collar.

“Got you…”

And indeed he did…for a few seconds before Jason slipped his arms out of the trench coat and continued on his way, giving Cyborg a little wave as he went…

******

He had managed to get away, but he knew the Titans were regrouping. Jason managed to find an unlocked door and burst into the building. Wasting no time he started his dash up the stairs. Even he didn’t know what his plan was anymore. He was just running in any direction, as long as it was away from the Titans. The flight of stairs seemed to just go on, but eventually he managed to reach the top, with plenty of energy to spare. The building was in fact about thirty stories high, but that doesn’t matter. Jason crashed out onto the roof and nearly lost his footing. He knew that there was no time to spare however. Running over to the edge, Jason did the one thing you should never do…he looked down. The boy forced a big lump down his throat and took a deep breath. The gap between the two buildings was quite big, but he had to jump it, he had to get away. Jason backed up about five meters and paused for a moment. He could already hear Robin and Cyborg clambering up the stairs, and he knew that the others were almost right behind him. Thinking no more of it, Jason burst out into a full on sprint, the rain lashed at his face and stung his eyes. Coming to the edge he made a leap of faith. Time itself seemingly slowed as he soared through the air, only to become another victim of gravity. Jason had made a good jump for it, but only managed to just about grab onto the roof with one hand. His face connected hard with the wall, but his grip stayed and carefully he dragged himself up onto the roof.

Now he was faced with a bigger problem…mainly a bigger building. Looking back he saw that the Titans had regrouped and were coming his way. Thinking fast he pulled out the grappling hook and fired it at a flag poll that hung out from the building. Jason held onto it tight and started running once again. Coming to the end of the building he jumped yet again. The rope tightened and he was sent crashing through one of the windows. The force caused him to lose grip on the hook and he went into a roll at landing, braking many things as he did. Slowly he got to his feet and looked around. The room was wide and long with many cubicles in it. But these weren’t important. Looking to his right he found the stairs leading to the roof. Why he chose to go up there…only God knows, because it was probably the worst thing to do when you had people who could fly chasing you. But ascended the stairs he did and after thirteen stories worth of stairs, he reached the top and burst out onto the roof. Jason received a crack of thunder and lightning for a welcome and a gust of wind. Not to mention the three Titans standing ready to fight him. He tried to run back down, but Robin and Cyborg had blocked his way. Jason slowly backed away and was quickly surrounded. This situation would usually cause one to tremble with fear or cower away and simply give up, but Jason strangely enough just…grinned. Wider than ever he smiled at them and even chuckled. Was he insane? O. Just in one of those funny moods.

“So this is it, huh? You’re going to take me away and lock me up, right?”

“Well yeah. We’re not exactly gonna let ya go,” this kind of reply you could expect from Beast Boy.

“I bet you wish it was that easy, don’t you?”

Without another word, he sent a pulse of electricity at Cyborg and Robin, hitting both heroes back. Their team mates reacted instantly, each of them making their attack on Jason. Beast Boy morphed into a Sabre-Tooth and lunged at Jason, but he was easily out manoeuvred and sent sprawling to the floor by a hefty kick. Not seconds after Starfire came at him with bolts of fury. Blocking them with a shield of electrical energy, Jason waited till the girl was passing over head and let down his shield, grabbed her by the ankle and smashed her into the rooftop. Not wasting anytime Raven sent a massive slab at Jason, but he rolled to the side and sent another pulse wave at her.

In this time both Cyborg and Robin had gotten back up and were attacking once again. Cyborg had his Sonic Canon deployed, letting of shoots into Jason, while Robin threw any explosive he could at the boy. Jason however, ducked and weaved out of the shoots from Cyborg and used another shield to protect himself from the blast of Robin’s explosives. Now it was down to hand combat. The Boy Wonder swung his foot at Jason’s head, but was dodged and tried again but went for his feet instead, but yet again he was evaded. Cyborg came in with a great punch, but stumbled when Jason moved to the side then pushed him away. Robin came at him with everything he had. His Bo Staff was out and he was sending a flurry of swipes at Jason. The two seemed to go at a speed unmatched, each blow was faster than the last, and just as equally each dodge was the same. Ducking and weaving. Spinning and jumping. Jason was like an untouchable target. Robin went for his head with a big clumsy swing, but like all such attacks he was dodged easily and left exposed. Jason immediately shoulder barged him in the gut and sent the Boy Wonder to the floor.

In this time Cyborg had gotten to his feet once again, as had the other three. The tin man was first to reach the target. He tried hitting him with two giant fists, but each was dodged easily and two of Jason’s own punches were thrown at him. Each one connecting with Cyborg’s face. He was dazed but not down, luckily for him, he had back up. Beast Boy had morphed into a massive bull and began his charge. Jason didn’t move a muscle and to others this would have been worrying, but Beast Boy paid little heed to this. Just before his horns connected with Jason, the boy grabbed both of them and moved to the side. Beast Boy nearly tripped over himself, but was sent face first to the ground anyway.

He was winning. Who would have thought it? He hadn’t wanted this to happen seems as taking on all five Titans was seen to most as impossible, but today he had found out that they were generally over rated. Well…it seemed like that anyway. His hot streak was coming to an end though.

Starfire sent a hail of bolts down on him, and having his back turned to the girl he was none the wiser. The alarm bells rang out soon though, as he was sent catapulting forward from the impact. Jason managed to roll out of the fall, but once again he was attacked from behind. Cyborg picked him up and held Jason high in the air before bringing him crashing down. The boy hadn’t even gotten back up when Beast Boy leapt on him in the form of a Lion. As he brought him down Beast Boy ripped into Jason’s arm and clawed away at his body. As Jason fought with the green changeling, he also used his free arm to reach the Bo Staff that Robin had dropped. Gripping it tightly he whacked Beast Boy across the head with it. Needless to say this sent Beast Boy sprawling to the floor. But now Jason was badly hurt and he was starting to feel it. Maybe if he had still had his coat it wouldn’t have been so bad. However, Jason had no time to lick his wounds, for as soon as he was up, he was under attack once again from Robin. This time he wasn’t quick enough to move aside and received two nasty blows in the head, then a kick in the gut. The boy was sent to the floor once again. True he was down, but not beaten, far from it. Slowly he clambered back to a standing a position. Yet again he found that the Titans left no time to rest. Jason barely managed to jump over a vent that was surrounded by black energy. With a smile on his face he went to turn, but around half way through was smashed in the face by the same vent that he had just evaded.

Get up Jason. You have to get up. You can’t give up. Not yet, not now! Not ever! Get up damn you! GET UP!

Jason struggled back onto his feet but eventually made it, with Bo Staff back in hand. The Titans stood in front of him defiantly. He had been backed to near the edge of the building, there was no where to run. So he would just have to keep fighting. With all the strength he could gather Jason sent the Bo Staff spiralling toward Robin, but it was stopped mid flight by black energy. Jason looked in surprise at Raven as she sent the staff right back at him. It flew through the air like an arrow. The boy wasn’t quick enough to move and so was pierced by the staff. It was going at such a speed that it managed to rip through his body and lung, then come out through the back, jamming itself in Jason body. In that moment everyone stopped, a look of horror spread across their faces. For any normal human this would have spelt the end, but Jason did not fall. The look of shock only stayed for a few seconds, before it was replaced by a look of anger. The Titans didn’t move an inch as they watched the boy grab the end of the staff that stuck out his chest. Jason began to yank hard at it and bit by bit it came out and loosened itself, until eventually he pulled it right out with one last heave. Blood spilt out onto the ground and onto his shirt, but he showed little to no sign of pain. In fact he began to charge up a bolt.

Jason began to stumble forward and raised his hand ready to strike. His advance was stopped by a well aimed Bird-a-rang from Robin. This went even faster than the staff had and hit him directly in the left eye and this, like the staff, managed to dig itself into his head. Jason’s head fell back and he stumbled away a few steps. Seconds past and still he kept his arched position. Until slowly he brought his head back up with the bird-a-rang plainly sticking out of his left eye. The Titans looked at him in sheer horror as he yanked it out and threw it to the ground.

“It’ll take…more than that…to take me down…”

He started another advance on the group, a grim look on his face.

“Cyborg! Starfire! Let him have it!”

With that said a barrage of green bolts and blue shoots were sent at Jason, each one hitting their mark, each one sending Jason further and further back. It wasn’t long till he was on his knees. He was beaten, broken and far from any hope of winning…but yet…he continued to try and get back up, to keep on going. But try as he might, his legs had given way. Robin was tired of this by now and was ready to deliver the final blow. He was about to send a devastating punch at Jason, but someone got in his way. Raven now stood between him and Jason.

“Stop! Can’t you see he’s hurt? He’s beaten, okay? This fight is over…”

She was right. The fight was over, but he was not yet done. As a last effort he forced his legs to support him for just a few more seconds. He clamped his left hand over Raven’s mouth and used his right to point his remaining Colt 45 at her head.

“Here’s…the deal…Titans,” it was obvious he was exhausted and struggling with his words. His face was battered and bruised. Blood ran down from his mouth and nose “I’ll go free…or Raven…gets her brains blown away.”

A very good threat indeed. But an unusual thing happened. Robin called his bluff and stepped forward. Usually he never would risk the life of his friends, but he knew that Raven was at no risk…not from Jason anyway.

“Just give it up. You’ve lost. You’re surrounded. There’s nowhere to run.”

Jason didn’t even need to look to know this was true…or…so it seemed. Looking behind him, he glanced over the edge and an escape plan quickly formed in his head. A grin made it’s way onto his face once again and he turned back to the Titans. First of all he whispered to Raven.

“I’m really sorry about this. Thanks for sticking up for me and all, but I’m not going to jail , not now I’m so close to finding out who I am. I hope you can forgive me,” and now he spoke loudly to the Titans “There’s always somewhere to run…always.”

Before anything else could be said he pushed Raven into Robin and flung himself from the building. As you would expect the Titans were in a state of shock. Each one of them ran to the edge and watched as Jason plummeted to the ground. He stared back at them with unblinking eyes as he went ever downward. Before he hit the ground, Starfire dug her head into Robin’s chest. The others couldn’t even bring themselves to move. Jason now led on top of a car, its roof completely destroyed and its alarm blaring through the night. People silently crowded around and looked at the body solemnly. It was over…

…Or…so it looked for a few moments. Jason’s eyes flashed open and slowly he sat up. Come on, you didn’t really think he was dead did you? Admittedly this fall would have killed…well…almost anyone. But Jason wasn’t just anyone, he was Jason. The crowd of people slowly backed away and stared at this phenomenon. Jason climbed off the car and grinned at the people around him. Though you couldn’t see it, every inch of his body was screaming with pain. He couldn’t even count how many injuries he had. But he refused to show weakness in front of these people. Slowly he turned away from the crowd and limped across the road till he reached the nearest alley. Before disappearing into the shadows, he looked at the Titans one last time, smiled…and gave a cocky salute to them…now he cast himself into the shadows.

“Dude…”

“How…just…how. He couldn’t have survived that! No-one could! It’s impossible!”

These were Beast Boy’s and Cyborg’s very shocked reactions. What they had just witnessed defied almost every law of physics there was…and yet…it had happened. Robin however did not wish to show that he was phased.

“It doesn’t matter…all we need to know is where he’s going. We’re also going to need to know more about him.”

“But dude…we don’t know anything about him.”

“I think I know someone who might,” Robin turned his head to the left and stared at Raven, who held his gaze for a few moments before looking away.

******

He had only managed a few meters before he collapsed and fell into a pile of discarded cardboard boxes. His body was bruised and broken. He himself was exhausted and he just couldn’t go any further. He needed to rest…regain his health. It wasn’t long till Jason drifted into unconsciousness…
