Subliminal Message in "Alf" cartoon

I remember hearing about this a long time ago, but never saw it and had it chalked up to urban legend status, but apparently it does exist

What is that supposed to suggest? "Blow up America"? Where was this animated?

This was actually covered in TV Guide back in the day. Googling, I was able to figure out exactly when- August 12, 1989. The person who reposted it was one of those conspiracy crackpots who think there actually is some sort of hidden message behind it, but the Japanese studio who animated the show told TV Guide that they put the frame in "to liven up the explosion sequence, and liven up a boring work day. 'I don't know if the Americans would understand, but sometimes we like to play around. Since it was a cartoon for Americans, the artist threw in the most American symbols he could think of.'"

Those of us that had been into anime for years would've probably thought no different about it anyway given the amount of Budweiser missiles and other freeze-frame jokes that use to be a staple of anime up until the Pokemon "seizure episode" brought all of that to an end. Those were fun times that had to be spoiled from an unsubstantiated claim.
