why is Static Shock not available on dvd boxsets like the rest of the DCAU? If they can put the zeta show on dvd, then why not this?

I have no idea...how the heck they release Zeta ahead of Static???
Less boxsets, plausibly more marketability. Problem was, season 1 was crap and only 12 episodes. It should have been a single boxset containing the entire series. I'll admit I find it odd there wasn't at least a "best of" set, though for Static.

I always thought they'd do a "Crossover" DVD of Static with all the DCAU crossover episodes, seeing as though from what I understad a lot people really just want those episodes.

Well, they only just released Zeta recently and the first set is missing an episode for season 1 which I heard will be on the next volume anyway. And I think Zeta was made before Static which is why it makes sense that it would be released first.

I wonder if the people who developed Zeta also worked on Static. The shows look have a similar look to them.

Yeah, I really can't imagine that Zeta would even be the more profitable of the two series.

Might be a licensing issue, what with the guest stars the show had, like Shaq and Li'l Romeo.

You know, somehow I doubt you'd hear much fan outrage if they were to release the whole series sans celebrity guest episodes.

Plus the celebrity guest-star episodes were not essential to the plot. You can skip over those and still know everything you need to know about the series.

Just out of curiosity, what episodes would someone want in a "fan collection" release? There aren't that many that I'd want: the crossovers with other heroes, the origin story arc (first 2 or 3 episodes, I think), and the premiere episodes of Ebon, Gear, and Alva's son.

This is what I want on DVD...

STATIC SHOCK: The Crossover Collection

The Big Leagues
Guest starring Batman and Robin against The Joker.

Hard as Nails
Guest starring Batman against Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn.

A League of Their Own, Part 1
A League of Their Own, Part 2
Guest starring the Justice League against Brainiac.

Toys in the Hood
Guest starring Superman against Toyman.

Future Shock
Guest starring Batman Beyond.

Fallen Hero
Guest starring Green Lantern against Sinestro.

BONUS EPISODES:

The Once and Future Thing, Part 1: Weird Western Tales
The Once and Future Thing, Part 2: Time Warped
Two Justice League Unlimited episodes guest starring Static.

Please, Warner Bros.-- make it so!

Yikes. Even with the bonus episodes, it only adds up to 9 episodes. Maybe they should toss in the ones with Bang Babies based on Milestone heroes, too? I know at least heroes based on the Blood Syndicate had a guest-starring episode. Were there others?

I would. There's no point in buying a complete series set if it's missing episodes. And both Romeo in the Mix and Duped (featuring A.J. MacClain) were pretty good episodes in their own right (ESPECIALLY RitM) and Duped was somewhat important for Rubberband Man too. Hoop Squad sucked though and Static Shaq was only so-so. I still wouldn't buy a set without them though.

All of this is a moot point. There is NO rights hold-up on the series. Dwayne McDuffie has repeatedly stated that the only people holding up Static on DVD are WHV. I'd REALLY hate to see this nonsense speculation about "guest star rights" turn into a known internet "fact" like the crap about "Even Clark Kent had a day job" nonsense. Static Shock is the Sesame Street of the DCAU with the most unfounded rumors and bogus claims attached to it. Moreso than any other series in the franchise.

I think there was an episode with a backstreet boy too.

Yeah, it was season 2's "Duped". Not only did it feature Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean, it also featured rapper Coolio as the villain-of-the-week, a shapeshifter named Replikon.

B2K also made a very unnecessary cameo in "Now You See Him..." The just appeared on camera performing on stage for a few minutes. They didn't interact with Static or any of the characters and weren't involved in the plot in any way.

How would we go about starting a reliable petition to WHV? I think at the very least a Fan Collection may be persuadable. Especially if it's held by World's Finest. IE: WF holds a survey for top X episodes, and then leads a petition for a fan collection of those X episodes. That would tell WHV there's a decent market for at least that Fan Collection, if not a whole series release.

To answer the question or attempt to anyway, how well did the first and only Static Shock DVD sell compared to the individual disc releases for Batman The Animated Series, Superman, Teen Titans, Batman Beyond and Justice League?
