"Star Wars: Visions" (Disney+ Animated Series) News & Discussion Thread

Cool news. It's nice to see sequels to some of the previous shorts, and an even nicer surprise one is getting a spin-off series as well.

"“Star Wars: Visions” Vol. 3 Coming To Disney+ October 29; Spin-Off Series “The Ninth Jedi” Announced"

"The anime-inspired anthology series Star Wars: Visions returns for a third volume this year, with nine new shorts set to premiere on Disney+ on October 29th. The news were announced during the Star Wars Celebration in Japan, where a rundown of the new shorts was discussed, and a short teaser was also released. You can check out the teaser in the article below.

Volume 3 of Star Wars: Visions will also include continuations of a few previous stories seen during the past seasons, something that many fans wished for, considering quite a few shorts had the potential to be developed even more. These include a sequel to “The Duel”, with the added subtitle of “Payback”, directed by Takanobu Mizuno with character designs by Takashi Okazaki; the storyline of “The Village Bride” continues in “The Lost Ones”; and “The Ninth Jedi” will receive a new short, subtitled “Child of Hope”. Not only that, but “The Ninth Jedi” will also receive its own spin-off limited series sometime next year. More details will undoubtedly come out in due time, but this is pretty exciting news."

Pretty wild news about the "Ninth Jedi" But Star Wars REALLY needs to go beyond just the Jedi and the Sith, it's getting pretty boring at this point. Dark Jedi, Grey Jedi, and other kind of force users, ALL would be welcome. Make the world more complex than just the perpetual battle between "Good vs Evil".

Also if the Ninth Jedi is receiving a sequel (and a spin off), I really hope "Journey to the Dark Head" from SW:V S2 also gets a sequel. That short was spectacular. Really merits a follow-up of some kind.

There's some non-Jedi shorts in Visions Vol. 3 :).

"Star Wars Visions Volume 3 Launches October 29"

"Star Wars Visions is arguably the coolest thing Disney does with the Lucasfilm property these days. It allows the Galaxy Far Far Away to stretch its creative legs far beyond the self-imposed boundaries of Kathleen Kennedy and try new, creative spins on classic ideas.

While the first season of Star Wars Visions was entirely anime-based with shorts from Japanese studios only, Season 2 expanded that reach to include animation studios from all over the world. Season 3’s lineup is…exclusively Japanese again. Weird. But this time we have Wit Studio, Project No. 9, Polygon Pictures, and David Production, who have never contributed to the anthology before.

They will be joined by returning studios Kamikaze Douga, Production I.G., Studio Trigger, Project Studio Q, and Kinema Citrus, who have new shorts of their own. The show will be presented in both Japanese and English, with the English dub boasting the voices of Anna Sawai, Freddie Highmore, George Takei, Harvey Guillén, Jodie Turner-Smith, Judith Light, Simu Liu, Stephanie Hsu and Steve Buscemi, among many others."

The trailer looks great. I'm only disappointed that we won't be getting another short
from Studio Mir (Journey to the Dark Head was by far the best piece ion SW:V2)
but I suppose they aren't a Japanese company, so there you go. A sequel to "The Ninth Jedi"
is pretty thrilling news, though.

10/16/25: A review of "Payback" (the short with the Ronin).

5/5/26: Manga titled Tsukumo comes out during San Diego Comic Con.
Following Order 66, the Empire's Jedi purge is in full swing and anti-Jedi propaganda is at its height. Among the survivors is Jedi Knight Nagi Tsukumo. Betrayed, poisoned, and on the run, he joins forces with two droid outcasts searching the galaxy for coordinates to a fabled Droid Paradise.

With an Imperial assassin hot on their tail, Nagi, along with droids Dee-Seven and Ee-Ten, must find the rumored utopia before the Empire catches up with them. But when they finally reach their destination, all seems lost. Can one Jedi overcome the Empire's influence, or will peace demand the ultimate sacrifice?

The episode will be screened in Japanese with English subtitles.

Totally forgot this was happening this year. Neat to see Tada worked on IGPX and Noir back in the day.

"Star Wars Visions Presents The Ninth Jedi August 5"

"So far Lucasfilm has produced three seasons of Star Wars Visions, a cool anthology series that commissions renowned animation studios from around the world, though mostly in Japan, to produce short stories based in the Star Wars galaxy. In a sense, the series is like a set of Star Wars TV pilots, even if it wasn’t intended to be. But that’s what it’s become anyway…the first full series based on a Visions short is coming later this summer.

Star Wars: Visions Presents — The Ninth Jedi is based on two episodes from Visions, “The Ninth Jedi” and “Child of Hope,” created by Production I.G. The same studio and creative team will return to continue the story told there, which to refresh your memory is about Jedi apprentice Lah Kara and her master Margrave Juro. Lah Kara is on a mission to save her father, but will that quest push her to the Light Side or the Dark Side of the Force?"
