Star Wars... again.

Any idea when the ultimate edtion - or whatever they end up calling all six movies - will be making an appearance?
2007.

Stellar my foot.
Way to double-post. And I disagree- this was still the best documentary on Star Wars I've seen (though truthfully much of the emphasis was on Lucas himself, which was fine). ANY documentary that keeps my interest for over 2 1/2 hours is stellar in my book.

Since it's apparently the 97 SE versions...no he wouldn't.
i doubt its the 97 version...

Wow, that is beyond stupid, since the only reason he'd have to say he doesn't want to re-release them is because countless people are asking to see the original versions.
I haven't gotten the series yet, maybe I'll pick this up...
I think this is just the fan attitude, not the general public attitude. The General public loves the new stuff. I remember back in 97 when the original "special editions" were released, most of what I heard from friends and family was people complaining that the films weren't different enough, and they were expecting even more new special effects and scenes.

Anyway, about this release, It's totally redundant, and I feel no need to buy it. So stop bellyaching about it's redundancy and just don't buy it. No ones forcing you too.

Ofcourse, spd seems to be under the impression that it is the original versions of the films. In that case, I may get it. After all, inspite of what I said in the first paragraph, I am a fan.

Would have this killed everyone to wait (like I've been doing) until there is a proper set with all 6 movies?

I don't think Lawrence Kasden was on the commentaries for Empire and Jedi on the original release, so I may rent it.

Get back to me when you've read The Annotated Screenplays.

Well...apparently you didn't read the PR that was in the first post in this thread...

September 28, 2005 - On December 6, 2005, Fox Home Entertainment will release the original Star Wars Trilogy on DVD in a new limited edition three-disc set. The collection, which arrives in stores a little over a month after the release of Star Wars Episode III - The Revenge of the Sith, will feature new artwork, modest bonus features and a handful of Easter Eggs on each disc. The versions included in this set are from the 1997 re-release, although no information is yet available about whether the films will feature the revisions made at that time, or simply contain the same (additional) revisions and changes made for the 2004 release of the trilogy on DVD. The set will be packaged in a cardboard slipcase, display the formatting of the films - either widescreen of full-frame - and retail for the MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) of $49.99.
If they're simply the 97 SE version, Greedo will shoot first. If they're the newest revisions like the set they released last year, they'll shoot at the same time.

Not that it really matters to me. The whole argument over who shoots first is just silly in my opinon.

So these are the Special Editions(han shoots second, no ewoks song, Beaked Sarlaac) without Ian McDiarmit in Empire and Hayden Christiansen in Jedi?

I'm still waiting for the Uber 1-6 box set.

I did read the first post but apparently i read it wrong...i wonder if they made a mistake...

this is a really dumb decision, why did they do this?

No they're the same discs from the previous boxset minus the fourth disc and IMO a much, much nicer box. The HTF is calling it the big ripoff of the year.

According to "Making Magic", the Behind the Scenes of the SE disc on Lucasarts Archives II, the original version made Han look a lot dirtier than he is.

If you own the first DVD set, you already own everything in this one. It's just a repackaged version. Hence, it's not for you, and there's no reason to be upset about it.

Re: OT Star Wars DVDs...Again

Like everyone has said before on this thread, that this upcoming set of OT Star Wars is really the same the DVD set from last year, but this time without the "Empire Of Dreams" Special Disc. For those who didn't get last year's OT Star Wars set here it is again.

Then you got the other 2 boxsets, which are PT Star Wars Episodes I-III and the Star Wars Movie Collection Episodes I-VI. Again, these will be the standard versions of all 6 movies.

I'm sure all 6 movies will be alter again, when Star Wars goes 3D starting next year for the IMAX experience. This gives George Lucas and the Lucasfilm staff more time to reincert lost scenes back in, correct any errors that needs to be a fix, and more special effects redos in time for the of Star Wars 30th Anniverary in 2007.

George Lucas has said that he has no interest in releasing the original version of the trilogy unfortunatley. He does not think they would sell.
I know he has not interest in releasing them, but he also knows they would sell. I'm just waiting for his greed to surpass his messed up version of 'artistic integrity' enough that he'll release them. His official argument as far as I've heard is that the S.E. versions are the way he would have made them if he'd been able to at the time, and the versions we loved in the 80's were incomplete travesties, not worthy of digital acknowledgement.

I can wait though, I've got dvd-rips of my THX Laserdisc releases :D

Perhaps the argument is silly, but Han shooting first was an important character development plot point. At this point I'd say it's really moot, since everyone knows he's a good guy, and he never does anything rogueish again besides whining about money and threatening to leave so that he can come back 'in the nick of time' later...

Han shooting first is the beginning of his character arc, wherein he changes from a murderous rogue into a hero of the Alliance. The character arc is dampened without its powerful beginning.

I have another theory as for why Johnny Bravo is neglected by CN nowadays. Putting aside the basic concept, it's the retools that made the show chaotic.
I might be the only one who cares but why is Scooby Doo basically unavailable everywhere? Netflix has only Mystery Inc and the two James Gunn movies. Tubi has What's New and Where Are You. Meanwhile HBO Max has basically nothing. I've been itching to watch the classic Scooby Doo direct to video movies lately and they're nowhere to be found outside of purchasing them on sites like YouTube.
Last night started watching a new adult animated series, a Netflix original that is basically the succesor to Big Mouth.

What is so great? Despite being a 18+ show, they actually bothered to give it a Romanian dub :ack::eek:
