"Scooby-Doo - Mystery, Inc." News & Discussion Thread

One thing I don't understand about what i've read on the "Where Walks Aphrodite" episode on here is if they were going to go with a 13 Ghosts villain to model the villain in this episode after, why didn't they go with Nicara?

In my opinion, she would have been a much better choice to be a villain or be a model for a villain in this episode. I mean after all, she did nearly marry Vincent Van Ghoul, and when she kisses a warlock and drains his powers, her hair turns into snakes like Medussa, so why not use her?

Actually, why not use her as the villain in the episode anyway?(I know it aired already in Canada, so this is a moot point anyway but what the heck); if I had been writing this episode, I would have the villainess who resembled Nicara, try and hypnotize all the guys in Crystal Cove(minus Scooby), and it would be up to all the women(which includes Daphne, Velma, and their moms and Angel Dynamite of course) to try and save them.

I mean you could still have Professor Pericles working with Scooby and the girls, but it could be revealed that Pericles was working with Nicara in secret the whole time and was trying to side track the gang from finding the treasure or whatever. It could have worked :)

Er, why does this matter?

It seems
Dwight Schultz will be the voice of Danny Darrow in Ep. 17, "Escape From Mystery Manor".

He should be sufficiently creepy considering
he has the gang constantly on the run within a booby trapped mansion.

Cool; Howling Mad Murdock himself is going to be a voice on Scooby Doo. I have to admit, with the guest voices so far, the producers of Mystery Inc. have done an awesome job with casting.

I'm still waiting to see Jeffrey Combs voice a character which i heard he will voice a character as an homage to H.P. Lovecraft.

Didn't that homage to H.P. Lovecraft already happen in episode 12? Or are they going to do another one?

Yeah but they did mention that Combs would voice a character name H.P. Hatecraft which its reference to Lovecraft.

Yes they did.

Just seen the latest and here are my thoughts:

Very good episode focusing on the current story arc and the Darrow family. It's a homage to Saw but Fred's excitment to all these traps was hilarious to watch.

It wraps up what happened to the Darrow Family but it seems the treasure is what has caused people such as the previous Mystery Incorporated to disappear but the real shocker was that Mayor Jones was spying on them at the end of the episode, looks like he becomes a suspect alongside Pericles and Mr E. Wonder if was him to sent them Cassidy's diary?

Saw it too as well
When i first heard that this episode will be mostly a "Saw" i thought no way....how they will pull it out? They where actually very clever and also give Fred a worthy opponent when it comes to traps. Even tho it was wasn't a monster the poor crazy Darrow looked creepy yet i do feel sorry for him and the rest of his family just because of that puzzle piece.

It does seem that Fred's dad was the one who sent them Cassidy's diary yet Pericles might also sent it since we have seen he had used Scooby to do his dirty work so why not do it again with the rest of the gang.

So far its really getting very interesting and hopefully when they show the final episode of the season we might learn the truth behind everything or it will end up in a twist that no one saw it coming

I think
it's more likely Mayor Jones, maybe he's in cahoots with Pericles in the race to find the treasure before Mr E finds it.

I have a feeling we be seeing the original Mystery Incorporated soon because my gut feeling is that they're still alive but the treasure was the reason for them why they dissapeared and it drove Pericles to insanity like it did to the Darrows.

That's true, Pericles seems to have the same crazy appearence of the last Darrow family of course keeping his intelligence but with a dangerous mix of insanity, you do wonder however why Mayor Jones want to find the treasure of course it maybe for publicity but i think there's something more tragic than just being famous.

My thoughts:

I enjoyed the episode although I felt a little wanting.

There were quite a few plot holes and/or unanswered questions....

The appearance (in shadow) of the original Mystery Inc: according to Danny Darrow, they came into the mansion but apparently left soon after. Considering that the earlier conclusion to the diary entry was that they disappeared while investigating the Darrow Family disappearance, only to leave shortly after arriving there was the biggest non sequiter of the episode.

How did the orginal gang get into the mansion? Can we assume they went in the exact same way as our heroes did? Or would that entrance have been accessible 30 years prior?

Since the original gang left rather quickly, how did Darrow know so much about them and their issues? Why did the gang leave so soon anyway?

Even for this show I had a hard time believing Danny Darrow had survived all that time sealed up within the sunken mansion. When the mansion first collapsed or when the college was built, didn't anyone come across the mansion sooner or try to rescue the family? They were quite prominent so I can't imagine it going unnoticed.

What the heck happened to the bodies of the rest of the Darrows?? Ewww!

Assuming the chimney was always a viable escape route, why didn't Danny take it? Speaking of which, that entrance in the boiler room was a little convenient. No doubt the gang was lured there, but how did the entryway come to be there in the first place?

We are in agreement Mr. E didn't bring the gang the diary, so who did? Did Angel bring it to off set suspicion on herself? Was it Prof Peracles? Mayor Jones? Speaking of the self-appointed, "Guardian of the Town Revenue Stream", what WAS he doing there? Did he really put his own son and his friends in mortal danger just to find that puzzle piece? Then again, since Darrow had an apparent reputation for being a trapper like Freddy, it seems the Mayor could have gambled that his son could have survived the booby traps.

A little Deus Ex Machina for the house to collapse even deeper than before and the ground above it seal itself shut as if there's never been a hole there. It's a safe bet no one's going to tell anyone to dig up the mansion.

When Scooby was able to free Velma & Shaggy from their trap by standing on those four corners on the floor I couldn't help but think: the clue was meant for Peracles, yet there's no way he could have done the final maneuver. He's a lot smaller than Scooby and I don't think he could have stretched his feet and wings far enough to reach them at the same time.

No mention was made at how much time had passed since Danny's encounter with the original Mystery Inc. during his conversation with the current gang. I think something got cut for time since Danny mentions , "Has it been that long?". He had to have had a reference point.

Why did Danny Darrow have to look like a troll? Granted, living in the ruins of the family mansion with no sunlight and minimal substanence isn't the best prescription for a healthy body, but geez!! At least he should have had darker pupils in his eyes and skin that didn't look so... blue.

What I did like:

Freddy having met his match in Danny Darrow! It was so much fun hearing him squee with delight over his admiration for his nemisis' handiwork and being able to figure them out.

Loved how he rescued Daphne from the pool and her attempt to lure him into a game of "mouth to mouth"!!

Kudos for showing us the rats (or rather, their tails) in the boiling cauldron! At least we have an idea as to how Danny Darrow found food after the family pantry was empty. Of course that leads to another plot hole - where did the smoke from the fire go? It would have smoked up the room without some way of escaping!

Double kudos for the way Shaggy, Velma and Fred dispatched Danny Darrow when he first encountered them in his room.

Triple kudos to Dwight Schultz' voicework as the delightfully deranged Danny Darrow!

We get to know the personalities of the old gang a bit more.... Judy wasn't sure that Brad really loved her, Prof. Peracles was insecure despite his intelligence, and Cassidy was really over the moon for Ricky Owens.

Freddy singing the praises of his abilities and being "in the zone"!! Priceless!!

I would appreciate it if you all would stop discussing unaired episodes. Considering that most people replying aren't Canadian citizens, I doubt these episodes were watched legally, and this isn't a talkback thread. This thread is for general discussion about the show and news about its future.

Fair call; however with the long hiatus its good to hear about the new eps; which are not too hard to find. Is there another thread or forum where this discussion can carry on?

Is it illegal to view a video online? Or is it your moral duty to report it as a rights violation if you come across it? :P

Cheers

Thank you. I was going to comment on how this isn't a talkback thread and how one of my legitimate posts were totally ignored in favor of further discussing unaired episodes but I was afraid I'd be met with unwanted backlash.

@ dubtropic - There's still a few things to discuss about the show in the meantime. Also you're in for a surprise buddy. :(
