"Sailor Moon SuperS" Classic Anime Talkback (Spoilers)

I figured instead of doing lengthy episode synopsis since I'm a bit behind I'll just respond to posts.

Because they have to stretch out the season as much as possible and figuring out that there's some connection between Chibi-Usa and Pegasus would force them to deal with the plot.

With our discussions that has been a problem across all the seasons and it seems to get worse every series. Especially since SuperS and Stars only follow the manga in broad strokes.

Was he gay? I didn't get that impression. Of course, I don't have a problem if he was gay, but I just didn't get the impression that was the case. Still, having a gay character not be a villain is nice.

There was a lot of implied moments between the designer and his assistant (like the whole backrub scene) but the episode doesn't blatantly state it. Plus a huge hint was dropped when FishEyes didn't disguise his gender for this assignment even though he prefers men.

It did have a terrible start with people assuming that Mamoru was cheating again. This is a terrible recurring issue that doesn't speak well of Usagi and Mamoru's relationship or how the other Guardians see Mamoru for that matter. I can understand why Ami would want to speak up because of her friendship with Usagi, but it was still jumping to a pretty huge conclusion and it's just kind of ridiculous that they'd think that Mamoru would cheat when they all know that they're married in the future and Chibi-Usa is their future daughter.

Yeah, it's not the assumption that bothers me it's more of this is one of many situations that happen in this overall season where it is played for humor but to adult fans of the show it just makes Usagi look controlling and petty in terms of her relationship.

At least the rest of the episode was pretty decent. It did provide a bit more focus on Ami, which was nice, and the victim of the week stood out a bit more with her goal. It was kind of weird how she wasn't instantly caught off guard by Hawk Eye wanting to take her for a trip when they had just met, but being emotionally vulnerable and looking like her late husband would probably factor into that. Although, it was weird that not understanding a car's feeling is what made her realize that he wasn't like her late husband, instead of the whole kidnapping deal.

With HawksEye disguising himself to look like the woman's dead husband it added an extra element of squick to the Amazon Trio's stalking tactics. It also made the episode feel a lot more "adult" than the usual fare.

Episode one hundred and thirty-nine was okay. The little girl came off as nice, polite and well trained in her craft. I can understand what they were going for with her mother being tough on her, but it felt like they were going overboard with beating her in their match to the point where her daughter started to cry. I kind of liked how Usagi was slowly coming to that conclusion that there was something else going on with her methods and the line about how no mother hates her child was kind of nice.

Considering how the villains target their victims, it was kind of creepy how Tiger Eye was focusing on the dreams of a little girl. At least the fight went pretty well and it did lead to the little girl realizing what her mother was trying to teach her. It was a nice reunion between them at the end and Chibi-Usa holding Usagi's hand at the end was nice.

This was one of the few episodes I felt Usagi was handled better being able to recognize that the mother was not just being abusive and being that the key to help her beat the bad guy. Also having Ikuko Itoh artwork gave the episode a few extra points.

Fish Eye asking Usagi and Chibi-Usa if they ever felt embarrassed jumping around in their skirts with them answering no was kind of funny. It seemed like a little jab at the people who would think that they would be embarrassed by their outfits, despite how the skirts aren't that short or revealing. I was surprised with the monster at first when I thought it was the seal, but then it was the ball. I think that was the dumbest monster design in a long time. It was just too ridiculous and stupid to not laugh at, especially when it seemed to have heard Tuxedo Mask's theme before he even threw the rose. At least the fashion designer was inspired by Sailor Moon and was able to get his staff back together.

I like how this season they put an overall lampshade on the routines of the Sailor Guardians and Tuxedo Mask. It's that type of humor Ikuhara carried over into other works where he got viewers into certain thematic scenarios only to parody them over the course of the series.

Episode one hundred and forty-one was pretty bad. On one hand, it was nice to give Minako an episode since she hasn't done much for awhile. On the other hand, she's pretty much the reason why I disliked this episode. I understand that she's wanted to find love, like pretty much all of the other Guardians, and she is a teenager, but being so thrilled about basically two-timing two guys was pretty horrible. She just came off like a completely shallow, vein and insensitive person by not even considering any of their feelings or even listening to what the others were saying. The show did acknowledge what she was doing was wrong, but I think that playing up her excitement and happiness for laughs really underminds that. Not to mention it doesn't feel like she realizes what she did was wrong, even at the end of the episode.

Admittedly, Minako trying to keep both dates going by running back and forth was kind of funny, especially Hawk Eye realizing that she wasn't with her right after the movie ended, but it wasn't enough to make her better to me. If these two guys weren't villains in disguise, then this situation would have made her look even worse since she was lying to two guys. Granted, they were using her as a means to test their skills of "winning women over," but in this case, I don't think that any of the characters involved are seen in a good light. Minako was upset over how they took advantage of her "pure feelings," but what's so pure about lying and two-timing people? You can't really claim that she's much better than the villains in this case since she was two-timing them with no intent of telling them the truth until they saw each other. Minako didn't have much moral ground to stand on and the fact that she acts like she does really bothered me.

Even at the end of the episode, she didn't seem to recognize that she did anything wrong. She was upset over how those guys took control of her feelings, but nothing about how two-timing people was wrong. It seemed like they glossed over that small detail in favor of her thinking that every person she loves leads up to the one she marries. While her chemistry with Artemis was nice, it wasn't enough to make Minako look any better. This one episode alone might be enough to make Minako my least favorite Inner Guardian instead of Ami. While Ami doesn't stand out much outside of her focused episodes and her running gag is annoying, at least she does come off as a relatively nice and friendly person. Minako has more personality, but this episode just made her look absolutely horrible to me. At least she hasn't become worse than Haruka and Michiru, but she still came off as pretty awful here.

For the reasons you disliked the episode is why I loved it. It was crazy Minako coming out at full blast and it's actually hilarious how in a turn of events she's manipulating the bad guys. I even loved how she attempted to justify it in the end and even break out an original attack!

Episode 142

Okay Usagi's jealousy issues is not completely out of control that it is cameo. Jealousy of an old lady, well she was jealousy of a child in season 2, so why not. I think now they are doing the jealousy thing as a joke.

Which would be funny if it Usagi and Mamoru were written better but...sigh.

I find it funny how this episode made it obvious that Usagi and Chibi-Usa have to be tethered at the hip in order to transform. Still by focusing on a older couple and giving the old lady some nice characterization made this episode a nice watch for me.

Episode 143

Finally the Inner Guardians get some upgrade. I liked the episode, but I thought the whole make Pegasus look like a bad guy was a rehash of the episode when the Dark Kingdom had the fake Sailor Moon. It has been done.

And Fisheye targeting a little boy, these villains have no bounds, and Tigereye was calling him out on that, really? A few episodes ago he was targeting a little girl, so he has no right to talk.

I am hoping we are getting closer to wrapping the Amazon Trio arc, I am ready for the Amazoness Quartet, long ready. The Amazon Trio are not the worst villains in the world, still there act gets old very fast.

My thing about the episode is that the "distrust" of Pegasus came out of nowhere when it seems up to this point the Sailor Guardians merely accepted that the Pegasus was their ally. It also felt like a cheap excuse to power-up the girls since in the manga each one of the girls experienced a temporary loss of power in the midst of an existential crisis (kind of like the subplot of Usagi transitioning to her R powers during the Ail and En arc). It also doesn't help that
we don't get their official new transformations and attacks until the Amazoness Quartet arc
. Don't get me wrong, I like the new designs but given how the source material and the later part of this season handled the power-up it seems rather pointless to introduce it here.

Episode 144

Well I don't believe how dense can these people be, they don't recognize Tiger Eye when they see him, Minako even dated him, that was even mentioned in this episode. That is one of the problems with this arc, it goes too long and have to make our heroes be so dense for the plot.

And what Shingo having a hearing problem? The cats they talked and he was very close within hearing distant, the cats should be a little more careful to keep quiet.

Episode 145

I hate to say it, but I have to admit, I know he is a guy, but Fish Eye is beautiful when he dresses up like a girl, interesting to see who they get to voice him, Zosite was just gay, but Fish Eye is a tran, and when he disguises himself as a woman you are suppose to buy him as a female. Be very challenging.

And I am on Fish Eye's, the victim of the week lead him on, Fish Eye had a right to be upset. I notice unlike Tiger Eye, who just sees his victims as possessions, it appears to me Fish Eye gets emotionally into his work and his victims. Is that suppose to be some social message, that girls and gays are more emotionally than straight men.

With our discussions that has been a problem across all the seasons and it seems to get worse every series. Especially since SuperS and Stars only follow the manga in broad strokes.

It's true that this has been a problem for all of the seasons thus far, but it just seems to become more and more noticeable as the series progresses. I don't know if it's because they were barely following the manga at this point, the show had been going on for so long, or if it was just how the one-shot episodes weren't doing as much to flesh out the characters and the group as much as they used to. I think it might be a combination of all of those factors, especially the last two.

I didn't notice that Fish Eyes didn't disguise his gender and I don't recall the backrub scene, but those would be good hints.

The assumption kind of bothers me, if only because of how ridiculous it is to think that they would cheat on each other at this point, but playing it for laughs doesn't help matters either. I don't think I'd find it much better as a kid. It might not have bothered me as it does now, but I probably would have considered Usagi annoying and the others at least rude for assuming that Mamoru would cheat because he's a man.

I can understand that since they do play it up for laughs, but it just really rubbed me the wrong way. If they weren't the villains and just two guys who happened to be interested in Minako, she'd still look pretty terrible. I think what bothered me was how she tried to claim that she was the victim when she really didn't have a moral leg to stand on. Sure, the two guys were villains, using her as a test for their ability to win women over and were going to look into her dreams, but she was manipulating and lying to them too. The show does recognize what she was doing was wrong, but playing it for comedy and then having Minako think that the two guys were controlling her when she was being a manipulative liar really underminds that in my opinion.

If people can't tell who Sailor Moon is, then it really shouldn't be any surprise that they can't recognize Tiger Eye.

I don't see how it's challenging to buy Fish Eye as a woman, especially with his voice and his disguises. As for the social message, I think that you're reading too much into that. I think it's just Fish Eye's personality rather than a comment on how certain people could be more emotional than straight men.

Anyway, I've finally caught up and I thought that these episodes were okay. Episode one hundred and forty-two was okay. I really could have done without Usagi being insanely jealous over Mamoru trying to share his umbrella with another woman. I understand that was for comedy relief, but it really made Usagi look way too insecure if Mamoru simply trying to offer another woman help in the rain. Not to mention it further shows how unhealthy their relationship if she's that petty and jealous.

The plot itself was decent enough and it was something a bit different since Hawk Eye couldn't hurt the woman's trust. Chibi-Usa thinking that her house could be something about the enemy did highlight how they really don't know much about their enemies, but they're still in the stage where they have to stretch things out ridiculously thin. I'm not sure why the husband would have be away for that long to learn how to become a great chief, but it was a bit more interesting than some of the other conflicts for the characters of the week and it did have a nice little ending.

Episode one hundred and forty-three was okay. I have to admit that it was weird that Pegasus attacks were something covered by their news, but also seemed widely accepted. I understand that this city deals with monster attacks frequently that the Sailor Guardians have to deal with, but even with multiple attacks, this just sounds way too ridiculous for the news to take seriously.

I also thought it was kind of weak how the Sailor Guardians, besides Chib-Usa, instantly questioned if Pegasus was really an enemy. Pegasus has given both Usagi and Chibi-Usa new transformations and comes whenever Chibi-Usa calls so that Usagi can use its powers to finish off the newest monster of the week. I think that would be enough to prove that he is on their side. I understand why they did it to create more tension and conflict later in the episode, but it just came off as pointless drama. This made a bit more sense when they were questioning whether or not Tuxedo Mask was their enemy back in the first season. Even though he was saving Sailor Moon all the time, he was still after the Silver Crystal like they were and because of his memory issues, he couldn't tell them if he was an alley or enemy himself. There shouldn't have been any reason to doubt Pegasus at this point. It also took the Guardians way too long to ask Chibi-Usa if she knows anything about Pegasus, but again, they have to stretch out these obvious reveals for a really long time.

I also really could have done without Fish Eye being excited to target a little boy. That's just beyond creepy and disturbing. I did kind of like Chibi-Usa's concern for Pegasus, if only because of how close they've become during the season. The new transformations for the Inner Guardians were cool, but it is kind of weird that we don't see a new transformation sequence for them, even in the following episodes, which already makes me question the timing for this power-up. Chibi-Usa not going with the boy was expected, although it was weird how the others kept trying to listen in on their conversation and saying how they didn't expect Chibi-Usa to beat them as if getting a boyfriend is supposed to be a competition.

Episode one hundred and forty-three was okay. I completely forgot that Shingo exists, so I wasn't expecting to see him involved. The Sailor Guardians also came off as more shallow here. They turned down those first group of boys just because they could do much better. I could understand wanting to have Shingo chase them off if they were rude to them, but I don't think that they did anything mean to them. It just makes them shallow and vein.

Their reaction to Tiger Eyes offering to take them to a private beach also made them look kind of stupid. This was a complete stranger wanting to take them somewhere private just because he knocked Ami's shaved ice to the ground. For all they knew, he could have been a dangerous criminal, and offering something that big over just a small accident would be ridiculously suspicious, but they just were instantly into the idea of a private beach because of how cool it was and due to how handsome he was. That just seemed both shallow and stupid.

I actually did like how they handled Shingo's sudden crush on Ami. It didn't become annoying like I expected it to and they did have a few nice moments together. Tiger Eyes' second attempt to get Ami alone was kind of funny too. I also liked how we actually got to see Usagi afraid for Shingo. We haven't seen Usagi act as a big sister to her little brother for a long time, so that was kind of refreshing. It almost seemed like Tiger Eyes was on the verge of having a breakthrough and character development, but I guess it's too early in the season for something like that to happen. I think that this episode had one of the weirdest designs and gimmick for a monster in a long time. Tuxedo Mask's appearance also came off as even more of a deus ex machina than usual due to how Mamoru wasn't supposed to be there. Still, it had a relatively nice ending and a few nice scenes for Ami.

Episode one hundred and forty-five was just boring. Usagi and Chibi-Usa instantly wanting to be in a ballet just seemed too random and I really couldn't care about the characters of the day. It also seemed weird that they didn't show the usual scene of the Amazon Trio picking out a new victim of the week. I guess that they wanted to have more time for another comedy routine, but it just felt kind of weird to suddenly jump to Fish Eye targeting the instructor.

I couldn't really care about the characters of the day, so that did make me less into their romance. I also couldn't quite blame Fish Eyes for being upset at the instructor since he never did explain what he wanted to do with the lead role, so he did come off as unintentionally inconsiderate. The fight with the monster really could have been over so much sooner, but they needed to fill in the run time with a pretty dull comedy routine. Usagi being in the moon during the play was kind of weird, but that was also supposed to be funny due to her being Sailor Moon. Overall, most of these episodes were just okay with only a few good moments and one episode being rather dull for me.

EDIT: I also keep forgetting to mention the new ending theme. I was just starting to like the first ending theme some more once they changed it, but this one is nice. It has nicer visuals than most of the other ending themes and the song has a nice upbeat tone to make it work.

The main joke here has to do with the fact that Usagi's full name, when written in Japanese fashion (family name first, given name last), is a pun on "Tsuki no Usagi", an Asian myth involving a rabbit living on the Moon.

Ah, that makes more sense given that she was inside the moon.

Episode 146

Well this was a weird episode. We have this Princess who does resemble Princess Diana, this is the second Princess Di parody character, you had one with the similar name and now that looks like her.

Which further makes me wonder what the hell is wrong with that balloon salesmen, I understand being upset, but he was going to punch her out, is he nuts, if he upsets just call the police, you don't punch people out, much less a woman, and this is princess Di, if in real life someone punched out Princess Di, that person would be in so much trouble.

And I don't Usagi sometimes, she sees Mamoru and the princess talking, and she is cool with it, so Mamoru being nice to someone that looks like Princess Diana who in her day was known one of the most glamorous and beautiful women in the world, that is okay, but Mamoru being nice to an old lady, causes Usagi to lose it.

Episode 147

So this time Makoto is targeted by Tiger Eye, and again non of the girls recognize him, I mean Minako dated him for goodness sake.

I have to wonder one thing do the Inner Guardians know there is a plot going on. It seems by now they would be like who are these people, why are they targeting people's dreams, but nope random people get attacked every week, and it is like no big deal, day to day stuff. There has never been a moment this season when our heroes say there is a new enemy and we have to find out what they are up to. To their credit in the special, the Outer Guardians had one just one encounter with the Black Moon Circus and they knew after that, there is a new enemy. Granted they decide to do nothing and let the Inner Guardians, once being of no help, though at least it is an improvement over being an hinder us like in season 3, still I am glad you have confidence in the Inner Guardians, but really could use some help. They still haven't figured out there is a plot here.

BTW, I have to say Unazuki looked great in this episode. I just love her.

Episode 148 and 149, I am just going to give my thoughts in one.

So this is the end of the Amazon Trio, and I tell you it was a pretty good ending. I didn't think I would feel any emotional attachment to Fish Eye, but I did.

The Amazon Trio get their redemption, their happy ending, I don't know about you guys but I felt that despite how creepy it was when they looked into people's dream and their murderess indent when they were done with their victims, I felt the villliany was held back enough that they can get their happy ending and not feel totally ripped off, just like Ali and An who never felt completely evil and did completely unforgivable for the most part, don't know if I can say the same as the Spectra Sisters, but the redemption episodes was very well done, so maybe I will let that slide, Anyway maybe it is just the lighter tone of this series, but if they tried to do this with past villains like the Witches 5, I would feel differently.

The Amazon Trio they can have their redemption and happy ending, but if they tried it with Esmeraude or Mimete, etc. I be calling BS.

Episode 150, introducing the Amazoness Quartet the new villains of this arc, and they look much older than I remember, I always thought they were suppose to be Chibiusa, but still they are young, too young to wearing the type of revealing outfits.

Interesting what drives them is to remain and never grow up, which is the opposite of the manga version of Chibiusa in the Black Moon arc, what drove Chibiusa and her evil alto ego Black Lady was too grow up. If only these versions of the characters existed together in one version.

We also meet Queen Nehelena, I don't know what she meant by true moon queen, though if was the moon Queen, and Beryl did what she did, Nehelena would destroy her. Though as far as evil queens go, they are both great, I don't know I always preferred Nehelena, I thought she was a bit hotter, you can't go wrong either way.

If Chibiusa was like her mother, the moment she meet the Quartet, she would instantly felt a connection and try to be friends with them weather they wanted to or not, and than neglect Momo so much that would she would date a weird nerd to get over the neglect, ha ha ha.

Speaking of Momo, she is the focus of this episode, and if she is going to be buddies with one of our heroes, she is going to have to get used to this, Naru should prepare her for this.

Episode 151, well this episode reminds right off the bat what year this came out, 1995 a year when the internet was first starting to gain stream.

They never confirm the relationship of the two composers, I thought they were brother and sister, it is not never stated, they look very much alike.

On the Quartet, I love them, they like Saturn and Pluto, they are characters who make Chibiusa more bearable, one of the reasons I wouldn't mind a Chibiusa centered spinoff in the 30th century. I do like the manga version better of them, and the characters I compare them too the most because at least in the manga they are sisters is the Ayakasha Sisters, I think in the anime they are the poor girl versions of the Ayakasha sisters, because except for Palla Palla being kind of dumb, there is no real distinct personality traits that differs them from one another. The Ayakasha sisters they had their own little quirks and design that made them unique.

I just wish the anime would have followed the manga more with the Quartet origins, that is all I am going to say for now on that subject.

Anyway I am glad the plot is moving forward at least, and it looks like the Inner Sensei get to have more focus than in the first half of this season.

They still haven't figured out there is a plot here.

I've been noticing that for awhile with the past couple of seasons. There's clearly a new enemy, but they don't really focus on that with making a plan or even discussing it. They just go about their days as if there's no threat and they don't even bother to learn more about their enemies. All they know is that they're after the Pegasus and looking into people's Dream Mirrors to find it. I'm pretty sure that they don't even know the name of their new enemy. It's not a new issue with this season, but it is something that has at least felt more apparent with the past few seasons. I think that there was a bit more progressing with the Sailor Guardians trying to find out more about the enemy in the first two seasons. I haven't seen the special yet with the Outer Guardians yet, so I can't comment on that. I doubt that they'd look good enough to make up for their terrible depiction in S.

Anyway, I finally got a chance to catch up with the series. Episode one hundred and forty six was so painfully boring. It was just such a paint by number kind of plot with a princess wanting to experience the freedom of a regular life without anything to make it memorable. If she had more personality or had more interactions with the other characters, maybe that could have helped, but it felt like a chore to get through this episode. This wasn't the worst episode in the series, but I think it could take the prize of the most boring Sailor Moon episode I've seen thus far.

In spite of that, I did kind of like how the future King and Queen still try to avoid formal gatherings. I know it was played for comedy relief, but I still kind of like how even though they've matured more and have more responsibilities, they still retain their personalities, especially Usagi. That whole concern about if the princess would think that every Japanese person acts like Usagi seemed like an unnecessary jab though. I did get a bit of a laugh when the monster just rolled over Tuxedo Mask's rose since that never happens, but other than that, there really wasn't much to write home about with this episode.

Episode one hundred and forty-seven was okay. Makato's sudden crush on Tiger Eye after just one dance already seemed like a bit much, but being willing to wait all night through the rain just to meet up with him again was way too much. To be fair, the show has always depicted a more romanticized fairy tale kind of version of love, but going this far just because she felt like she found her Prince Charming seemed more unhealthy rather than touching. It was more like she was in love with the idea of finding her special someone and Makato does kind of realize that at the end, but then getting excited for another dance party where she could find her Prince Charming kind of undermines that message. This one of the aspects of the series that most likely wouldn't have bothered me too much if I saw this when I was younger, but seeing it now, it is a bit bothersome to say the least.

It did seem like her faith and devotion affected Tiger Eye a bit given that he didn't want to destroy her Dream Mirror afterwards, which does help a bit with the group's redemption later on.

Episode one hundred and forty-eight was pretty good. Fish Eye targeting Mamoru wasn't too surprising, although Usagi's comical overreaction to Mamoru being with another girl still bothers me. There's is literally no reason why she should worry about Mamoru being with someone else at this point when they all know that they end up married with a child. Mamoru trying to explain why he loves Usagi was kind of weak. I understand that dreams are the big thing for this season and all, but given how lackluster their romance is and how much of a poorly written mess it is, I was hoping that he'd have a better response to Fish Eye's reasonable question than just she is full of dreams.

I wasn't expecting the Amazon Trio to actually be animals given human forms, although that does explain their names. That would shock anyone, so I could see why Fish Eye would try to have some reassurance with Mamoru, even though trying to steal another person's significant other is still pretty low.

Episode one hundred and forty-nine was pretty good. I liked how Usagi wanted to help Fish Eye. Even though she introduced herself as a rival in love, Usagi didn't want to leave her sitting in the rain, so that showed how friendly and compassionate she can be. Although, I thought it was absolutely hilarious that calling Mamoru the most handsome man in the world is what made Fish Eye realize that she's Sailor Moon. Out of all of the obvious signs, that is what gave Usagi away. Fantastic.

I wasn't expecting them to figure out that Chibi-Usa is the host for Pegasus, but I also thought that they should have put those pieces together ages ago. If it wasn't for Zicornia being so upset at Fish Eye, they could have easily gotten a hold of Pegasus. I honestly felt pretty bad for Fish Eye when Zicornia attacked him. He was asking a pretty reasonable question since he wanted to really be a human and have dreams, but she was just too upset about their failures and didn't want to have her replaceable pawns to talk back. That attack sounded so painful and it was nice that Tiger Eye wanted to help Fish Eye.

Learning Sailor Moon's identity is generally a huge death flag and the episode did say that this was the Amazon Trio's last stage too, so I knew that they were going to die. I wasn't expecting Hawk Eye to sacrifice himself to save Fish Eye or for Tiger Eye to use up their potentially only one chance to become human to save Usagi and Chibi-Usa. Both were pretty powerful moments to help make the Amazon Trio more sympathetic. I honestly thought that it was nice that they were given a second chance at life and became humans. Despite their creepy method of searching for Pegasus and treating people more like objects for them to conquer in general, I was glad to see that they did get a happy ending. One thing that really helped is that they did come off as a small group of friends during this arc. That showed that they weren't completely evil, which made the idea of redeeming them less forced. Plus, these two episodes did make them more sympathetic with simply wanting to become human, sacrificing themselves for each other and willing to help Sailor Moon defeat the monster. I am glad that they are done with that part of the series since while the Amazon Trio had more personality, their method was still a bit unsettling and it also felt like it was dragging on a bit too much, but I was glad that they were able to get a happy ending.

Episode one hundred and fifty was pretty good. It basically served to showcase the new status quo, which will most likely drag on and become boring not too long from now as per usual with the new status quo setup. I honestly wonder why they didn't introduce the concept of the Golden Dream Mirror earlier. It would have made the Amazon Trio's method of searching for Pegasus at least a bit less creepy, but I guess that they needed to have something new for the Amazon Quartet to do. It still seems like it would have been more helpful for the villains' goal to have something more specific to search for when looking at Dream Mirrors, but they need to drag out this storyline somehow.

The Amazon Quartet have a bit of a playful personality, which seems fitting given that they're children that don't want to grow up. Their outfits seem like they'd be more fitting on older characters with how revealing they are though. The chant about a child's dream definitely gave me the impression that there's some kind of brainwashing involved with this circus, but I could be off the mark. I kind of like how they get the Dream Mirror out of their targets. It's much less creepy than what the Amazon Trio did and a bit faster too. I guess they all have dream eating monsters now too. At least the first fight was pretty decent and they got to see the whole Amazon Quartet together instead of being introduced one at a time.

Episode one hundred and fifty one was okay. The dated way the characters saw the Internet was pretty funny, especially Usagi not understanding what online meant. The music Ami was listening to was quite lovely, so I could see why she'd want to write lyrics for it. I thought that the two composers were siblings as well for some reason. Ami being too nervous to show her lyrics was understandable given that it wasn't even something she was really passionate about compared to how the composers were with their music.

Being trapped in a computer was kind of weird, but I liked how Ami apparently talked to Sailor Mercury to help her gain new power. Her new attack was pretty neat and the episode did have a nice ending. Although, if the Inner Guardians are going to get their own focus episodes to showcase their new transformation sequence and attacks like I think that they are, then that really does make the timing for their new power-up in the previous arc more questionable. They could have tried to save that for this arc instead just to have it be a bit more fitting. Overall, most of these episodes were pretty good.

Episode 152, I don't have much to say. Just stuff happened, it does hint at the idea of an Inner Sensei having little sister protege figures, ironically in the manga they will get that eventually, and that is our current villains the Amazoness Quartet, and I believe the Quartet member VesVes featured in this episode is Mars future protege if that the Inner Sesnsei help trained Chibiusa future guardians, of course that is manga and Crystral verse.

Episode 153, this adapted an omake and featured Palla Palla my favorite Quartet member. She is like a horror movie villains, she is so adorable yet sadistic at the same time. I know it had to adapt the manga omake so Sailor Moon and Chibi Moon had to be the main characters, I wish if they are going to do an episode that really focuses on a Quarter in this case Palla Palla, I wish it would featured their Inner Sensei counterpart, who I think in this case it would be Mercury. It would be good to see Ami scold and try to teach Palla Palla on lesson on what she does is wrong, just like she did with Berthier and Viluy. I don't \know why, when they do the evil counterpart characters, the best ones are always the Mercury ones.

In the manga though, the purified Quartet did not have personality once they got purified, I hope if Crystal adapts this arc, that they will have more personality, and in that case I hope Palla Palla retains her child like dumb personality, she is my favorite. One of the reasons I would support a Chibiusa spin off set in the 30th century and focus on the next generation of Sensei, is the Quartet, I love to see more of them and she what they would be like. I hope in that situation, Palla Palla would be like her anime counterpart minus the sadistic side of course.

Episode 154

Well a Minako and Makoto episode, well to its credit it is not too much like episode 65, a lot of that also had to do with the featured villain being just Cere Cere and not also Jun Jun, though I wish it did, I think when an episode focused on one of the Inners, I would prefer the Quarter that featured is their counter part, but this was more about Minako than Makoto, and Cere Cere is her counterpart so I will lead it slide.

And what is with the sudden Minako antagonistic relationship with kids, did they forget about episode 52, like that never happened. Did Artemis talk in front of Momo and Kyusuke. This wouldn't be the first time the cats talk in front of people they shouldn't talk in front, for example Luna at the end of episode 80.

It is great that they got their power ups, they are my two favorite Inner Sensei. Minako and Artemis continue to be the best Sailor Sensei / cat duo in the series.

And are the Quartet are they physically older than Chibiusa. I always thought they were suppose to be the same age, unless this some joke on Chibiusa under developed body, which is inconsident with her Black Lady form, if she suppose to grow up to look like Black Lady than she will not be flat chested. If the Quartet went to school, would they be in the same grade, I don't know. Though it would differ from Usagi and the Inner Sensei, they are all in the same grade.

Episode 155

So a sports episode all right, and I thought Usagi at times was very selfish, mean, and self centered, it is like Usagi and Chibiusa switched places from season 2.

Did Jun Jun know Kyusuke was this week's target when she first started training him. I get the impression she was just hanging around and on a whim decided to train this kid. And than on the next day she got her assignment. I am surprised once she realized that Kyusuke she still finished the training as deadly as it was. I give her some credit for that.

I never thought of this, I envision them working exclusive in the 30th century and beyond and never coming back to this time, but if some reason Chibiusa and her team had to go back to this time period for some reason, and the Quartet they have to assume civilian identities and go to school, I might ship Kyusuke and Jun Jun, I think they are kind of cute together. I am not really into Kyuskue x Momo, I think that would be Umino x Naru 2.0, and what is that look Jun Jun gave him just before she left. She just glares at him and doesn't say anything. Maybe some regret at the very least no ill will towards him, just doing her job.

Episode 156

We have some adult middle age house wife mean girls group, that is just weird.

The joke that no one thinks they look like they do in a painting, that was a joke that was hit and miss, I do know I feel the same way about hearing an audio recording of my voice, so I can relate sort of.

The question I have is where did Cere Cere get that mansion, left over from Nephrite?

Episode 157

Well here is what gets me, I thought in season 2 Chibiusa promised no more secrets and to trust Sailor Moon and the Sailor Guardians, what the hell, just forget all that ever happened. I understand this is more Pegasus secret than Chibiusa, but it feels there is little to no carry over of much of anything from season to season, I mean all of the still living reformed villains they never comeback for example. I don't like Chibiusa keeping secrets from the Inner Guardians, I thought we were past that.

I do like Ves Ves flight outfit, I thought that bit was funny. And I like how everyone knew that something was off about her. Seeing someone fly I would think something is weird about her.

Overall thoughts of this arc so far, they once again do this habit, of showing character depth until it is convent for them, for example with the Amazon Trio, they were just bad guys that had no sympathic quality, than all of a sudden Usagi and Fish Eye, and we see a soft side to them when it is time to redeem them. The same thing with Ali, An, and the Ayakashi sisters. The only villain that turns good they did right in my opinion was Sapphire and that is because he barely got any screen time.

I wish they try to show more depth to the Quartet, they are children for goodness sake, can we have them be complete characters, and not simply villains. You would think Chibiusa would try to talk sense into them, and feel some link to them, and vice versa, they should feel a link to her.

Next week, my favorite of the Quarter Palla Palla gets the spotlight.

Well these two episodes have one thing in common in that the whole villains trying to find the Golden Mirror was not centered in the episodes, it was more of a background.

Episode 158

We begin with Palla Palla using the Jadeite method of just attacking as many people of you at the time, which I think is a more effective method than just going one victim at a time, Palla Palla might be a little wacky, but she might be the smartest of them all, or Zirconia whose idea it is to do one victim of the time.

This is the episode in which Usagi and Chibiusa switch bodies. Little Usagi was hilarious and adorable, older Chibiusa that was weird to watch, I feel like I am watching a sequel series which I would not mind, especially if a teenage looking (in the manga she is over 900 years ago) Chibiusa sequel series if that means we get more of the Quartet. Chibiusa looks older, but still younger than Black Lady. Speaking of which I am glad the anime is finally having Chibiusa have this desire to be a grownup, which is what she was in the manga. I also love to see the contrays with Chibiusa wanting to grow up and the Quartet desire to be kids forever.

If there was a spinoff series focusing on the next generation of Guardians, I would love it if Chibiusa wanted to be older while her guardians want to not grow up. Especially if you have that Chibiusa is younger than them.

Episode 159

In this one, everyone thinks Chibiusa has a boy friend, and I tell you when I saw the horse face guy, I thought that was hilarious. Also loved the girls trying to spy on Chibiusa and Mamoru dinner date and how obviously they were on the spying.

I do wish that Chibiusa would tell everyone about Pegasus, it defeats the whole purpose of the lessons learned in R. In that season, Chibiusa learns to trust Usagi and the others, in one episode Chibiusa and Mamoru promise not to keep any more secrets, this whole season ignores that.

Next week, finally the Amazoness Quartet are going to work together, why up to this point there hasn't been an episode in which at least two of them worked together, the Amazon Trio once in a while worked together, the Ayakashi sisters sometimes two or in one episode all 4 of them teamed up Especially if go by their manga origins, they are destined to be a team, so let's see some team work.

Episode 159 is, in my opinion, one of the funniest SuperS episodes. I actually liked how the original dub handled it, so it'll be fun to compare it to the Viz version.

158, on the other hand, is one of the most overrated episodes. I guess people liked the Freaky Friday style novelty, but eh. Never worked for me.

To be fair, Chibi-Usa keeping Pegasus' secrets is different than what happened in R. This isn't a matter of not trusting the Sailor Guardians, but rather keeping her promise to Pegasus. Given the situation and how Pegasus isn't ready to tell even her everything yet, I can't really blame Chibi-Usa for not telling them. She clearly trusts the Sailor Guardians, but she can't afford to break her promise to Pegasus either. It really doesn't feel like they're ignoring a lesson they've already gone through with Chibi-Usa, especially when we don't know what could happen if she revealed what she knew about Pegasus to the others before he says that it's okay. This is more a conflict of promises to keep instead of not trusting someone enough.

Anyway, I had a massive amount of episodes to catch up on due to how I kept forgetting to watch the episodes every week, so I have a lot to catch up on.

Episode one hundred and fifty two was pretty good. The character of the week was pretty nice. She felt endearing to me due to how her conflict was pretty relatable. Following your dreams is hard to do and many people prefer to take an easier way to live, even if it isn't wasn't what they wanted to do, and that's something both kids and adults can understand. She did attach herself to Rei pretty quickly and the whole unintentional broken heart scene was expected, but it was reasonable given the setup.

I'm also curious about one detail. Diana has done pretty much nothing since her debut and in all of these episodes that I watched, I think that this was the only one where she appeared. Is there a point to her character beyond confirming that Luna and Artemis do end up together? Despite Chibi-Usa saying that they're friends in the future, they've hardly had any scenes together and Diana hasn't really done anything that couldn't have been done by Luna or Artemis, so I'm really starting to question what was the point in introducing Diana two arcs later than originally intended in the manga.

I really liked the message they were going for with girls have the power to make their dreams come true. I'd prefer something like that over Usagi's comment on how every girl dreams of becoming a bride. It comes off as a bit more progressive than just wanting to become a bride. There's nothing wrong with wanting to get married, but encouraging girls that they can make their dreams come true covers more than just becoming a good housewife would and I can get behind that message a bit more. Plus, Rei's new attack was so awesome. I was expecting some kind of dramatic moment of self-discovery for her to unlock that new attack based on what happened to Ami. It still looked pretty awesome.

Episode one hundred and fifty three was pretty bad. The fact that this adapted an omake explains so much. It was a comical filler episode, but it felt kind of out of place with the mini-arc they were going for with the Inner Guardians gaining new attacks. Plus, Usagi and Chibi-Usa acting even more immature than usual about cleaning their teeth and being afraid to go to the dentist was more annoying than funny to me. Mamoru blushing at the dentist assistant also seemed out of character. It was to provide some more comical relief with Mamoru trying to figure out how to apologize to Usagi and for him to realize that no one had come out in spite of the long line, but I don't recall Mamoru blushing at other female characters like that, especially with Usagi right next to him. That behavior from Usagi is unfortunately pretty typical, so that doesn't surprise me too much at this point, but Mamoru doing something like that just felt weird. I also wasn't expecting the whole crying turned into a weapon thing to come back. That seemed rather sudden given that I don't think Usagi has done that since early season one. Again, being based on an omake would explain this quite a bit and they did need to figure out some way to free them after Tuxedo Mask was captured, but it still felt really weird.

It wasn't one of the worst filler episodes they've had, but I still got the whole "Well that was a waste of time" kind of feeling by the end. I seem to feel that more with the filler episodes in this season more so than in the previous ones for some reason.

Episode one hundred and fifty four was pretty bad. The whole conflict bothered me from the start. I understand that they've had crushes on older male characters before, but it's still kind of weird to see characters who haven't even started high school yet to fight for the attention of a clearly grown man. Mamoru is older than Usagi, but he doesn't look as old as this character of the week did. Not to mention the age difference between Usagi and Mamoru are the least of their relationship's problems. Minako talking about how she wanted to have a few kids was way more awkward and uncomfortable than funny.

Minako came off as pretty darn unlikable for most of this episode. I realize that Makato was crushing on the principal and wanted to impress him, but at least she still seemed like she genuinely wanted to help with the preschool. Minako clearly didn't care about anything other than making herself more appealing to the principal, which made her look way too selfish and shallow for my tastes. This isn't new behavior, but Minako has just been bothering me more this season. She has been shallow and focused on herself, but ever since the whole two timing thing, it's been pretty extreme. It also doesn't help that the show still plays her attitude to laughs. They recognize that it isn't the best behavior, usually from Artemis or one of the other characters, but then she'll ignore them and the whole conversation will be laughed off. She was at least entertaining at times before and had a few good episodes, but SuperS is just making her pretty unlikable for me.

I couldn't really blame Makato for being upset. Perhaps saying that they were through was a bit much, especially when they still have to work together as Guardians, but her anger was understandable. They made up relatively quickly, but they had to in order to save everyone. I would have preferred if they had cut out the comedy filler episode so that Makato and Minako could have received more individual focus instead of cramming their new attacks in one episode. It's mainly due to how I didn't care for either of these two episodes and individual attention to Makato and Minako probably would have been better than at least the dentist filler episode. Their new attacks were okay, but not as impressive or as cool as Ami or Rei's new attacks. I'm still not thrilled with Minako, but trying to fix up the teddy bear even when she wasn't good at sewing was a nice gesture at least. It also figured that the principal and the little boy were father and son. They looked alike and it was a pretty obvious end to the one-sided crushes, especially when he was still really older than any of the Sailor Guardians.

Episode one hundred and fifty-five was okay. Everyone trying to help Chibi-Usa get ready for sports day was pretty dull. Usagi didn't come off as that selfish and self-centered, but I did rush through these episodes, so I could be forgetting how she came off during those scenes. Jun Jun helping out the character of the day was more interesting. We haven't seen the Amazon Quartet go out or interact with people when it didn't involve a mission and I'm pretty sure that she didn't know about the next target until the following day. She seemed like she wanted to help him, or at least was interested enough in his conflict to help, and I thought that was going to lead into something more interesting than what actually happened. I thought that learning about who the next target was would bother Jun Jun more than it actually did. Aside from just before she left, it didn't seem to phase her one bit. I guess it's still too early in the game to start developing the Amazon Quartet or have them be more than child-like. The ending was decent enough with everyone overcoming their challenges.

Episode one hundred and fifty-six was okay. I guess the theme of this episode was everyone being inconsiderate jerks to artists. Even Usagi's reaction to Chibi-Usa's drawing was too extreme. For an elementary school student, her drawing of Usagi was pretty good, so I don't see why she got that upset. I understand that it was there to setup their meeting with the artist in the park and for more comical banter between them, but it just rubbed me the wrong way. Everyone disliking the paintings also bothered me since those paintings were great and would have been worth paying him at least some money. He did come off as genuinely nice with being thankful for the food and determined to follow his artistic beliefs. The fight was over surprisingly quick given that the monster didn't even do anything yet, but they wanted to wrap up the fight quickly. The name of Chibi-Usa's drawing did end the episode on a surprisingly sweet note.

Episode one hundred and fifty-seven was pretty good. I thought that it was kind of weird how the character of the day was so stubborn about following his dream himself. Maybe if there was some deep personal reason behind that desire, I could understand it, but it seemed like he either didn't believe that relying on others would work or wanted to prove he could do it on his own, but that didn't make much sense to me. Chibi-Usa wanting to learn more about Pegasus was understandable. Despite their connection, she didn't know much about him at that point and thought that they couldn't be friends if they couldn't talk about anything.

As I mentioned before, I don't think that Chibi-Usa not telling the others about what she's dealing with in regard to Pegasus goes against what happened in R. Keeping a promise with a friend from other friends doesn't mean that you don't trust the group of friends. It just means that you're honoring the promise you made. Besides that, I thought that Mamoru not bringing up the whole contrived break-up subplot when Chibi-Usa asked him if he and Usagi ever fought was a bigger case of not remembering past events from the previous seasons. They could have gone one step further by having Mamoru remember that he and Usagi used to pick on each other frequently during the first season.

Chibi-Usa transforming on her own surprised me. Based on the transformation sequence and I think another filler episode earlier in this season, I thought that both Usagi and Chibi-Usa had to be together in order to transform, but apparently that isn't the case now. Chibi-Usa also apparently still has her Pink Sugar Heart Attack move to use, even though it still doesn't do much. At least she was able to have faith in Pegasus again and the whole man-powered flight ending was nice too.

Episode one hundred and fifty-eight was pretty good. It felt kind of weird for the show to suddenly bring up Chibi-Usa's desire to grow up. I think it was brought up in the anime before, but not nearly as important to her as it was in the manga. That dream makes even more sense in the manga given that Chibi-Usa has been a child for nine hundred years, so wanting to grow up would be even more important to her. Older Chibi-Usa looked a lot like Usagi, which was fitting. Mamoru's reaction was hilarious.

They didn't seem to do as much with the two of them trading places as I thought, but the bulk of the episode was on Chibi-Usa trying to find Pegasus again after she couldn't call out to him. It was good to learn more about Pegasus, the nature of this conflict with the Dead Moon circus and learn of his human form named Helios. Chibi-Usa running to Pegasus while the first ending theme for this season played was probably my favorite moment. It just felt so sweet and they have a genuine connection to help make the romance more endearing. It says a lot when the romance Chibi-Usa has is more believable than what Usagi and Mamoru have had, but there has been better romance and chemistry between the other Guardians and minor/one-shot characters, so this isn't much different.

I did like that Palla Palla was trying do cover more people at once. Since they're looking for a specific item, targeting people one at a time would just take up more time than they really need. It was nice to see Chibi-Usa happy about learning more about Pegasus when she wanted to know more in the previous episode.

Episode one hundred and fifty-nine was pretty good. Chibi-Usa flying through the air with Pegasus was cute and further helped to emphasize their connection. It was expected that the Sailor Guardians would try to figure out how Chibi-Usa's crush was. Makato constantly thinking that it was Chibi-Usa's senpai just made me think she was projecting her issues of love onto Chibi-Usa, Minako still came off as pretty swallow for thinking that she was dating two guys at once and Chibi-Usa calling Mamoru, her future father, her boyfriend was kind of weird and unsettling. There were some funny moments like everyone's attempts to listen into her conversation with Mamoru. The fisherman's overall design was funny, but everyone thinking that Chibi-Usa had fallen for a clearly grown man at least twenty years older than her was kind of creepy.

At least the fight was over relatively soon and she could clear up the confusion a bit. She still can't tell them who Pegasus is yet, but when she can, they'll probably realize who her first love actually is.

Overall, most of these episodes ranged from okay to pretty good. There were a few bad/boring ones, but not too much. I need to get back to watching this once a week so that I don't have a large pile of episodes to work through like this again.

Episode 160

Well this was a cool episode. We get to see the Inner Guardians and the Amazoness Quartet kind of bond, it was cool to see two generations of Sailor Guardians working together. I say this the Inner Guardians and the civilian form of the Quartet they got along better than Usagi and Chibiusa when they first meet.

While I loved the Inner Guardians and the Amazoness Quartet having a lot of bonding together, which gives more reasons I wouldn't mind seeing a spinoff that centered on Chibiusa and her team being the main protagonist, and I am not the biggest Chibiusa fan, but I love the Quartet, so I can bare Chibiusa stuff if we get more of the Quartet. Anyway like I was saying while I love seeing the Inner Guardians and the Amazoness Quartet have their moments, I wish we see more of Chibiusa and the Quartet interact. I wonder if the anime writers knew how the Dead Moon Circus arc was going in the manga and who the Quartet were suppose to be. In these latest episodes it implies who they are suppose to be. When the Quartet if she wanted to grow up, part of me wanted to say "are you kidding, she sold her soul to a demon just to grow up, at least in one version of the story." I love how the Quartet their desires of staying young are the complete opposite of what Black Lady was all about.

And in the end, our heroes they don't know those 4 kids they befriend were the Amazoness Quartet, first of all they are not even wearing tiaras which in this universe is a great disguise or even glasses like Superman, they just take off their clothes, but Palla Palla gave it away, she referred to herself in the third person in both civilian form and as a Amazoness Quartet. Good thing Palla Palla is not a Sailor Guardian in the 20th century when they have secret identities, in the 30th century and beyond guardians don't really need it.

A fine episode, I do wish an episode like this happened earlier in the arc when the Quartet were introduced. Which bring me to the next episode.

Episode 161

Of course Chibiusa is going to win a race, finally all that time running away from the Black Moon Clan comes in handy. Finally Queen Nehelenia starts to make her move, at first I thought those spider webs with those gray hairs being found were slowly stealing everyone's youth. I don't know if that is her plan or not. I do know Mamoru is in trouble, whatever is going on with him is going to be bad, and I am a little worried about Ami as well, she had a gray hair. That Queen is up to no good.

And here Sailor Moon and the guardians learn that these girls they meet in the previous episode were the Amazoness Quartet, the whole heart break Usagi felt would work better if she didn't just meet these girls, they befriend them in the last episode, it doesn't have the same emotional impact if they knew them longer. It is not exactly the evil Endymon in season 1, or Chibiusa becoming Black Lady, or Hotaru becoming Mistress 9, granted it is different because all those cases good guys that got processed and turned into enemies, and these girls were enemies form the start, not to mention two of those examples you are talking about future family members, but she knew all of them longer than a day, and there was build up.

Which is why I thought episode 160 could have took place at the beginning of the Amazoness Quartet arc of this season, that would be great if our heroes befriend these girls, without any of them knowing they are enemies to each other. A combo of what happened with Ali and An, and what happened with Haruka and Michiru in the first half of S. In a way the Quartet fits with both of them, like Ali and An they are enemies, but Haruka and Michiru they are guardians. You have episode when our heroes as Usagi and pals befriend these 4 girls and get close to them, while at the same times as Sailor Guardians they fight the Amazoness Quartet. And thus when the reveal happens, Usagi heart break has some emotional impact. Granted it would never match evil Endymon or Black Lady, because they are not her destined lover or daughter, but Mistress 9 at least.

Anyway like always, when it comes time to get to the end game of the seasons, Sailor Moon is at its best.

Episode 162

Well the Dead Moon Circus full plan comes into motion, they are attacking earth and wrecking stuff, with things in dire straights. You think the Outter Guardians would land a hand, nope where are they, where is Uranus and Neptune, we know from the special they know what is going on. I get that they wants to show that believe in Sailor Moon and the Inner Guardians now, but still we could use a hand.

Mamoru is out of the battle, so the world's hands in the complete hands of all girls. And finally everyone finds out about Pegasus, about time he gave use answers. And the bad guys know who has the Golden Mirror, they should have figured out it was Chibimoon a long time ago.

Episode 163

So they capture Chibimoon, and Nehelena just wants to gloat, though when she said Chibiusa wouldn't understand about darkness, I wish Chibiusa said she had a dark side too, she was Black Lady.

Though the real Chibimoon getting switched with a doll, and it works, does make Nehelena and less of a treat. I do wish when Chibiusa and the Quarter had that little scene, that there would be more of a hint of a connection between the 5 of them.

So we only have 3 episodes left, looks like next week the Quartet are going to turn. So stay tuned.

I thought that these episodes were pretty good. Episode one hundred and sixty was pretty good. I liked seeing the Inner Guardians and the Quartet interacting. While most of the Quartet members don't have distinctive/memorable personalities to me, it was something different and there was a bit of bonding between the two groups as they put on the ceremony together. They all did seem pretty confused and upset over their whole not wanting to grow up and disregarding their hopes for becoming adults.

The monster was pretty strange in how it did more damage to itself than to the Inner Guardians. They wanted to have the two groups bond, but it really felt like this should have happened throughout the course of their arc, especially with what happens in the next episode. It also would have given their connection more weight in general instead of trying to do everything in just one episode.

Episode one hundred and sixty-one was pretty good. They were setting up the villains' final big plan pretty well. I thought that Chibi-Usa's plea for Pegasus to stay was genuinely touching. They've become close throughout the season and there is an obvious romance there as well, which made Chibi-Usa's desperation for Pegasus to stay all the more meaningful and sincere.

The whole twists with the Sailor Guardians and Quartet revealing who they are really didn't work. They wanted to make it a huge and shocking moments for both groups, but they just met in the previous episode. It also felt strange for the Quartet to be in disguise by this point given that they were harvesting Dream Mirrors in order to find the Golden Mirror, so it seemed like they were only in their disguise to reveal themselves to the Sailor Guardians. This is a big reason as to why the Sailor Guardians and Quartet should have interacted throughout their arc. If they wanted to go for a big dramatic reveal by both sides like this, then they really needed to establish a connection between the two groups for much more than a single episode. It just felt forced and gave the impression that they were rushed for the ending, despite how they seemed to be taking their sweet time with advancing the plot earlier in this season.

Episode one hundred and sixty two was pretty good. At least everyone knew about Pegasus and the name of their enemy. It's really weird that with both S and SuperS, they didn't know the names of their enemy until the last few episodes. I don't know why they made that choice given that it makes it more obvious that the girls and the cats aren't doing anything to learn more about their enemies. Luna and Artemis haven't even really done anything in this season aside from finding out that they have a future daughter too, who has also done nothing and continues to make me wonder why they bothered to introduce her in this season.

Usagi being concerned over Mamoru and being determined to protect everyone should have been a touching moment if there was any good writing in their relationship. The idea of Mamoru being linked to the Earth was kind of an interesting reason to get him out of the action though.

The whole idea that all of the Sailor Guardians had seen a Pegasus in their dreams when they were children was kind of cute. It felt a bit forced in, but it generally worked. It provided a sweet little moment before a more intense and dramatic confrontation happened. It figured that they'd finally figure out that Chibi-Usa had the Golden Mirror. I'm not surprised that it took the villains so long to find out since they needed to stretch that out until they reached the final confrontation and the villains are kind of stupid, especially when they could have found out about Chibi-Usa much earlier if they didn't attack and kill the Amazon Trio. I'm more surprised the Sailor Guardians didn't consider that possibility. Chibi-Usa is the only one to call upon Pegasus for their finishing move. It seemed so painfully obvious that Chibi-Usa was Pegasus' host the entire time.

Episode one hundred and sixty three was pretty good. I liked Chibi-Usa's reaction upon seeing Helios. Despite being captured herself, she wanted to save him and she was just happy about finally being able to see him in person. It was a sweet little moment.

Nehelena's backstory was kind of weak though. Granted, trying to establish the motivation for your big villain of the season within the last few episodes generally sounds like a bad way to approach it, but she was just jealous of the the Moon Kingdom, wanted the Golden Crystal to control the universe and couldn't because she had an evil heart. It just felt like a pretty dull and cliched kind of backstory and she doesn't have much else going on to make up for it. It was also kind of strange how the Quartet were able to switch Chibi-Usa with a fake one so easily. They also had a really pathetic and shallow reason for doing so. It fits with their childish attitudes, but it just kind of bugged me for some reason.

The Inner Guardians confronting evil mirror versions of themselves trying to use their insecurities and doubts against them was kind of interesting, but it also felt a bit rushed. There hadn't been much signs of these kind of insecurities throughout the season. Some made sense like Makato wanting to be more feminine and Minako wanting more praise, but Rei being afraid of dying or Ami worrying if she left her dream of becoming a doctor didn't quite work. Seeing them realize the illusions and break the mirrors was pretty nice, but it would have worked a bit more if they showed those insecurities and doubts throughout the season.

Chibi-Usa running through the fire to save Pegasus was really nice. It showed how much she cares about him if she didn't care or notice the dangers in front of her. Obviously the Quartet would be punished for freeing Chibi-Usa, but I didn't care about that since I honestly don't care about the Quartet. They don't seem that interesting to me based on this series. The episode did end on a pretty intense cliffhanger with Chibi-Usa being captured again while the other Sailor Guardians were still calling out to her. Overall, these episodes were pretty good and I am curious how the remaining episodes will wrap up the season.

I am just going to review these episodes together.

Episode 164 and 165, is the climax of this arc. I am telling you this Queen Nehelena she is Chibiusa's Queen Beryl, with her unrequited love for Heilos. We have seen this story before, though I think that is more minor to Queen Nehelena's motivation.

I liked the whole call on everyone's dreams to save the day, it is very Disney of them, we got some callbacks, but I was hoping to see more callbacks, it be awesome to see the outer sensei and baby Hotaru to make cameos.

So Zirconia's dead, the Amazoness Quarter are good guys now and have lost their powers, why is it seemingly all the villains that turn good and don't die lose their powers, but did they?

Looks like Chibiusa is going to fight the final boss, this looks to be an epic end to this arc, only one episode to go. And than we are onto Stars, if you can believe it.

Episode 166

So we reach the end of SuperS at last, I remember this season being my least favorite, perhaps it still is, because I love S and the darkness of S, so this was following up an awesome season.

There were things I didn't like and still don't, no Outer Sensei, what the hell, the rest of the Inner Sensei reduced to minimal role. Chibiusa takes over the show.

But watching this again, I remember things I did like, mainly the Amazoness Quartet, I love them, though a lot has to do with there origins in the manga, that really interest me, I love their personality, and leaves it open in my mind about a Chibiusa spin off, if they are going to be part of it and retains their anime personality, I am all for it. Also love how they differ with Chibiusa, Chibiusa is someone who is always trying to grow up, while they want to stay kids, I think that dynamic could work.

Another thing was that Sailor Moon became more independent, we saw less of Tuxedo Mask helping, I have nothing against the guy, but less assistance from him, is more empowering.

So in this we see Queen Nehelena's desire was never to grow old. I am pretty sure she is sort of a take on the evil Queen in Snow White. And in the end, Sailor Moon didn't really defeat her, she more or less defeated herself.

So Heilos has to bid fare well to Chibiusa, well I am sure they will meet again. And also hope some day Chibiusa sees the Quartet as well.

So that warps this season, can't believe we are up to Stars and no more old dub comparison, because they don't exist.
