Who has had the chance to see this wonderful movie? It's playing in 2 theaters in New York City and a few locations in Los Angeles. I saw it today and it was pretty good as an autobiography and the animation was also pretty well done for something based on a graphic novel.

Is the version you saw subtitled or dubbed over? I've hard it could go either way when it came to the states.
I certainly hope it does well in those cities, I very much would like to see it come to my city sometime (hopefully other than the arthouse way across town).

It was subtitled. I heard Sony Pictures is working on an English dub but I don't know when it'll get a release. We may see something after the Oscars.

The film opens in Seattle this weekend (French language, English subtitles).
It's playing at the Harvard Exit Theatre in Capitol Hill. I'd like to catch Saturday matinee. If there are any Seattleites here, pm me.

Looks like it's getting a nice relace here, after all. It's due to open here in San Antonio Febuary first.
Here's hoping it won't only be playing at the Bijou theatre that's too far for me to drive to.

well that's good to hear.

It's playing here at the Modern Art Mueseum in Fort Worth. The newspaper here gave it a bad review though.

Well imagine my shock to learn that a Texas rag would give this film a bad review. Would you mind posting a link? I'd like to know why the critic panned it.

Here's the rave review (Grade: A) from The Seattle Post-Intelligencer: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/movies/348643_persepolis25q.html

Frankly the film would much of it's charm after an English dub, especially the "Eye of the Tiger" bit. Here's hoping the original French-track will be available for the dvd release.

Just look at my sig. I'm in awe. Better than the books, even.

The only people I can see giving a movie this funny, moving, and captivating a bad review are either prejudiced against the animation or are just flat-out xenophobes.

I actually just saw this (the subtitled version), and I have to say, the animation is wonderful, as is the story.
There were children at the theatre, and it proves that cartoons are not only for kids! :D

Better than the books? Oh, goodness, that would be phenomenal. I'm waiting anxiously for this to get a DVD release...

Since it has a subbed theatrical release, it's most likely the DVD will have the original French with subs as well.

Yeah, it's opening here in SA tomorrow(Just saw it on Moviefone.com). It's only playing at the Bijou and the Fiesta 16 though.

I'm planning to go see it at the Bijou. :D

I read the first book in college. It'd have to be a heck of a film to be better, because of how the book worked. The art was all so simple, but the story behind it was powerful enough that you couldn't picture it being more complex.

When it comes to graphic novels in literary circles, there are generally three that are considered the epitome of what they do, Maus, Watchmen, and Akira. Perspepolis was much simpler than all 3, yet brought its point along all the more effectively for it.

Hmmmm. The description says:

The English-language version features the voice talents of Sean Penn, Gena Rowlands, and Iggy Pop, with Catherine Deneuve and Chiara Mastroianni reprising their roles from the original French-language version.

I wonder what version is coming here?

I saw it last night, and I loved it. :D

The theater was actually sorta packed, which is odd for the Bijou theater. I loved the look and feel of the movie, and the Eye of the Tiger scene was just gold. I'd buy the DVD just for that one scene. :anime:

Subbed. The dub doesn't exist for now, though supposedly it's still happening and some of the French actors are going to be in the English version, which should give some hope for a faithful version.

Yeah, it was subbed. I think I liked it better subbed.

I wonder if the English version will ever go to theaters, or if it will just be for the DVD?

Those doing the pyramid burger on YouTube are doing it wrong. Let it cook until it's well done because I've seen people doing it and trying it before spitting it after realising that it's raw.
I have another theory as for why Johnny Bravo is neglected by CN nowadays. Putting aside the basic concept, it's the retools that made the show chaotic.
