The News Team's slai has a new review up on the front page of AnimeSuperhero.com:
"This year marks the 20th year the Oscar nominated animated shorts and live-action shorts have been made available to the public via Shorts.TV through movie theaters across the country. I sadly only watched them for maybe 8-9 years myself after finding out about them back in the 2010s. From last year’s all-adult nominations, this year the shorts are split almost half general audience and half PG-14 with a warning to the audience of when the PG-14 shorts would air.
“Magic Candies” is a delightful CGI short produced by Japanese powerhouse Toei in partnership with Dandelion Animation Studio and directed by veteran anime director Daisuke Nishio based on a story by Seoul born author Heena Baek. It’s the story about a shy introverted boy named Dong-Dong who plays alone with his marbles. While trying to buy more marbles one day, instead he buys a bag of 5 spherical candies that look like marbles. Each has a unique color to them. When he gets home, he tries the candy balls, and each one lets him hear and see something different depending on the pattern on the candy. With each candy comes a story to tell, but they all have one thing in common. They allow Dong-Dong to connect to things and people more than he ever had before as a lone friendless kid."
