New Powerpuff Girls Movie News

Without specifying what format (theatrical or streaming).

When the 2002 movie came out, it turned out to be a box office failure.

You know considering how it has now officially been YEARS since we heard McCracken was working on a PPG revival and haven't heard anything since then or any updates whatsoever, this is easily one of those "i'll believe it when I see it." And I at this point have a lot of doubts on that.

If this does happen... why are they promoting it as a movie based on the 2016 designs? Like that revival notoriously FAILED and though I know CN is super self concious about promoting older series in any way if there is any interest in PPG anymore it comes from the OLD show, not the new one. And by show I mean specficially SHOW, not a movie. Like yeah people who saw the PPG who were fans did enjoy it but that was a realllllllllllllllllllly small amount after how much CN hyped up that movie and many consider it the point where the series itself started going down hill so why promote another one exactly? Just feels like a bad idea on all ends.

Or maybe the DiscussingFilm X account is just using the 2016 artwork purely out of convenience. It does not mean that the movie will actually look like that.

Plus, I'm fully expecting this movie to be released under the Cartoon Network Studios banner and not the Warner Bros. Animation banner. The latter brand is specifically intended for things like Looney Tunes, DC, Hanna-Barbera, pre-1986 MGM, Warner Bros. Pictures and Warner Bros. Television properties.

That was only announced to be in development. I'm guessing Foster's Funtime ended up taking priority since that actually got greenlit. There aren't any articles on this yet that I could find (or at least not any that reveal more than Discussing Film did) nor has Craig posted about this yet on Instagram (the only social media he seems to use nowadays), so it's unclear if this is in development or greenlit or has any relation to what was announced a few years ago.

Considering how hard the original movie bombed, I’m surprised they are bringing this to theaters. Maybe in time for the 30th anniversary.

Variety confirms that this is only in development.

I'm a bit disappointed by this. I was wondering if maybe the show Craig was working on a few years ago evolved into this, and it still could have, but that was so long ago that I was hoping that the fact we were hearing something meant something was greenlit. But I guess this isn't any further along than that was.

Something about PPG is always in development but ends up never coming out

Similarly that Foster's preschool show has been in development hell for ages now.

Foster's was greenlit.

Although I'm now realizing that was about two years ago and we haven't heard much since then, so I don't know what's going on with it.

That's why I said it's been in development hell for ages. It just doesn't want to come out.

"Warner Bros Animation Slate Includes Powerpuff Girls Movie, New Film From VivziePop"

"It’s the week of Annecy, and that means we’re about to be drowned in an avalanche of big animation news and announcements. First up is Warner Bros, who held their panel this morning and revealed their entire planned theatrical animation slate for the next few years.

It looks like the Powerpuff Girls could be heading back to theaters…maybe. The biggest announcement of the panel is not technically part of the slate yet; it’s in development and hasn’t been greenlit for production, but WB confirmed it exists. They didn’t say much else, like what kind of animation style it would have, how it would be different from the 2002 feature film, or who is involved with it. Those questions might not actually have answers yet.

As for the promised return of the PPG to television under the shepherding of their original creator, Craig McCracken…still nothing. That show was announced in 2022 among a slew of 2010s CN revivals and by now, nearly all of them have debuted…but this one hasn’t even shown a screenshot of itself. As far as we know it is not cancelled. No idea what’s going on there, or if the movie is connected to it."

I'm open to the idea that a one-and-maybe-done reunion could work better than a series, but not interested until I know McCracken and/or some of the original team are involved.

Of course, hours after I said that, I actually hear something.

So it's still coming. Just taking longer than I thought it would.

He also worked on The Amazing World of Gumball, so it could be hinted that Boulder Media will be working on the new Foster's just like they did with the first four seasons of the original series.

Is that Joan Cusack voicing Jessie in that Toy Story Papa John's commercial? If so, it sounds rough. Woundn't surprise me if it wasn't, though.
