There several ways to make the Naruto show a lot more fun again and not seem for lack of a better word emo. For example: Dialouge, attitude, and fighting style can make all the difference. Here's an example. For Naruto's next meeting with Sasuke.

Naruto(looking stern, determined and ready for a fight): Sasuke, I'm not gonna kill you, but if you don't stop know whatever happens will be for Your Own GOOD.

Sasuke(Looking just as determined, and not bleak looking): Well if that's how it has to be Naruto then that' how IT HAS TO BE!!!

please stop me if there is already a thread on this matter

When has Naruto become "unlikeable?", don't confuse facts with opinions.

Does this relate to Shippuden too? If so, less fillers please. We went from an awesome arc to fillers that aren't even in the shows time line, does that make sense  Also, I do hope some day Naruto lets go of Saskue, but than that's his character, he helps people no matter how bad.

edit;

If you meant the character, scratch every thing I said.

The reason is because if Naruto doesn't try to save Sasuke he'll become a far worse person than Sasuke originally thought his brother was and Orochimaru.

You know, just because a lot of people complain about events, that doesn't mean that it should be stuck with the stigma of "not being likable" as if it's some kind of fact.

How to make Naruto good again: KILL SASUKE!!!!

I'm only half-joking with this. Sasuke is pretty much the reason that the series has been going around and around in circles lately. Naruto's obssession with him was understandable at first and very much tolerable. Now after hearing it for the umptienth time, I can honestly say IT'S GETTING OLD!!! I don't care if it IS a kids manga, having Naruto still be so understanding of Sasuke at this point, after all the stuff he's done(and plans to do to Konoha) is really ridiculous, and it blocks him from a lot of the maturity he should have as a character.

Then there's Sasuke himself.

Every other emo character managed to get over themselves(and Garra had THE most justifcation to be an emo prick), so Sasuke needs to stop acting like he's special,

Heck at this point the only reason I think he should leave is so that he can get with Sakura so Naruto can get with Hinata.

As for my actual standing with the series...I still find it okay. The series has been on a decline since the Pain fight, but it's picking up again.

Question: How do we make Naruto more likable?

Answer: End it.

In all seriousness, I just watched episode 175. That should have been the last episode. It showed Naruto has finally succeeded in his real goal of getting everyone to acknowledge him. If it weren't for all the awful plotlines that need resolving, that would have been a fine finale.

I still find it quite enjoyable, seems okay to me. Would love to see more Shino, Ino, TenTen, and Kiba though.

I dunno the recent filler involving naruto's acceptance into the leaf makes a lot of sense post the pain arc. Is it needed? Nah I don't think so, but it does make a lot of sense for naruto and adds more depth to his character. As a viewer you do go aha you finally got it
As for improvements in the tv show, I don't mind filler nearly as much as I used to because I understand some filler can be very good. Some can be a way to lengthen the pace between manga and anime.
But I honestly LOVE the way after the flashback, they included madara and sasuke toward the leaf village and the 5 village meeting...I mean naruto filler can drag but its not extremely copious like the initial naruto.
I think the major complaint with people is where is the funny and seriousness? If naruto does go the way the manga has, it'll come back. Heck plenty of naruto...being..himself...
and with killa bee no doubt
I smell gold there...for some reason

Yeeeeah, as much as I would too, I don't think Kishimoto really is going to use these people again. They had their time.

A bit late now, isn't it? The story is approaching the home stretch and it's set up the final 3 villain groups in [strike]The Black Lantern Corps[/strike] Kabuto, [strike]The Joker[/strike]Madara and Superboy Prime.

Resolve these three plots without making your main hero look like an idiot.

Give Sasuke a sendoff via death, exile, or redemption that doesn't make everyone look stupid and frees the hero of his guilt.

Kishi, we all know how stupid the shipping wars are, but you've made your bed and now you've gotta lie in it. You need to address this properly without some sort of mystic handwave.

You do those three things, and the manga will end just fine.

That's what filler is for.

Ideally.

Hopefully.

But yeah, the manga looks to be winding down and will end in the next few years.

Few years? The manga is obviously entering it's last arc. I'd say no more than 2 years left, depending on whether or not Kishimoto wants to drag it out.

Putting it mildly and while a bit off topic but Goku didn't exactly give up on Vegeta now did he.

I've gone over this entire discussion time and time again. At this point there it should be obvious how the series is going to end. Naruto's going to win, he's going to end the cycle of hatred between the Uchiha and Senju and work towards creating peace with his friends. That sounds like an ending that wraps up all of the plotlines and with as many times as we've had these things repeated over and over it should be evident that's going to be how it ends.

Give on him how? He only kept sparing the guy's life so they could fight again.

Coming from someone that's been on the fence about Naruto for quite some time now (I can say the same about the other 2 hitters as well), that's a hard question to answer. What I want may not tickle everyone's fancy (and I'm not a great story teller to begin with) so I tend to not even think about stuff like this, however, since I'm feeling a little generous. Kill Naruto.

The series has been pretty enjoyable the last few months, mostly because Naruto has gained focus, there's been no Sasuke and there's been a well handled return to the humour from earlier chapters. Kishimoto just seems really comfortable now and it carries over to his audience.

The fact that it really looks like we're in the homestretch now makes me feel any suggestions are moot point. Personally, I'd say the Uchiha have been the biggest problem by far. In Part 1 it was a subplot and gave Sasuke a decent angle. In Part 2, he goes completely off the deep end, backtracks on his development and then suddenly the Uchiha are key to a ton of events in the story. To say nothing of the Sharingan, which seems to randomly get more pointless upgrades than a Windows OS.

The two main ways to make Naruto likeable again:

1. Kill Sasuke (the real "spotlight hog" of the story).

2. Give more canon development to the other ninjas around Naruto's age (i.e. Shino).

I've found the story quite enjoyable. Much more so than Bleach. The only problem was a period of time where Sasuke got way too much focus. But the akatsuki memebers have never failed to please.
