"DuckTales" (2017) Series Talkback (Spoilers)

I’m still not liking Gyro’s new personality. Like can you imagine Gyro from the original series forcing someone to work in the bathroom? Other than that, it was an awesome episode.

You know it's weird. In the original series, Scrooge is somewhat very mean to Launchpad. But in the new series, Scrooge is more kinder to Launchpad despite his bumbling behavior.

I expect the actor who plays Darkwing will show up at some point, and we'll get a meta-ish episode with a ton of in-jokes.

Which would be completely unnecessary, and could potentially ruin the entire series (just like other Disney Channel and Disney XD shows I could name...). Some people might know about it, some people might not, but to do this kind of episode at the expense of those who are just discovering Disney for the first time, just wouldn't be right. I'd go so far as to say that it would be an insult to anyone's intelligence. If he does show up, I hope they leave out the in-jokes (or at least just do one or two that don't get in the way of the episode), and make it so that "Darkwing", actor or not, is the real thing.

One fan asked Mr. Angones about why Darkwing Duck is an in-universe tv show instead of an in-universe superhero. He said, "Spoilers.". I'm pretty sure we'll sure more of him.

When it comes to this show you are Chicken Little always squawking about the series being potentially ruined. And it keeps better and better every week. I trust the producers at this point more than your Bill Kristol-esque prognostications.

What you need to understand is that I'm focusing on the long run here. We have to consider the bigger picture. If you only scratch the surface, then it may seem like there isn't a problem, but sometimes you have to read between the lines. We're looking at a show that may (or may not) eventually become a parody of the Disney legacy at its own expense, let alone the viewers', which I personally doubt you, or anyone else would want.

You think I'm naysaying, or even doomsaying? Believe me, I can give you naysaying or doomsaying. Doing either would be saying something like "Forget it. This show is obviously going to suck because it's nothing like the original show, so I'm not going to even bother". However, I have been bothering for some time now. I want this show to succeed, but it has to succeed for the right reasons (at least I think so), and at this moment things seem to be a little iffy (that is, it could go either way at this point). If this show ends up becoming a self-referential self-parody where even one episode is just a single joke followed by a punchline, then I won't bother. However, it has avoided that for the most part, but I do wonder sometimes. At any rate, I simply can't ignore certain things. I will say that this show is trying to be its own thing while also trying to maintain tradition, but as most of know, trying and doing are two different things...

Well, that's your opinion, so.........good day.

I was thinking about this after the episode. There's ways to mess with it so that it turns out to be real, I think. There was an episode where Darkwing and Megavolt travelled to the 'Real World' where DW was only a cartoon. That's just an example.

Also, in DuckTales so far we've seen Chinese luck demons, animates statues, ghost pirates, Atlantis, super-science (Including AI and a fully functional battlesuit), and Scrooge and Donald are friends with the Greek gods. Superheroes being around doesn't really break suspension of disbelief considering the world the show takes place in.

As for "Darkwing Duck" being a tv show in this universe, it doesn't seem right to me. And of all characters to be aware of this, is Launchpad, who was a character in said show. It just seems off with its internal logic.

Does anybody else feel this way?

Based on that whole scene with the Darkwing Duck TV series, I think that DD was actually a real hero and that he was filming a reality TV series bout his adventures (which is why he said "keep filming" when he fell down).

I think the logic here is that the Darkwing Duck show in the DuckTales2017verse isn't the same version as the Darkwing show from Our Universe. For one thing, it's supposedly live action, and has an actual actor playing the lead. And if it's not our version, that means Launchpad is not a part of the show. What I especially like is that the fans kind of have to come up with their own theories and ideas about how this would work, and fit into everything else, without the show spoon-feeding us the definitive answers immediately.

Now I expect the actor who plays Darkwing will show up at some point, and we'll get a meta-ish episode with a ton of in-jokes. But until that happens, I respect the show for letting me figure things out for myself. It is a rare kids show I watch that treats me like an adult.

Did you catch the name of his "actor"? Jim Starling, a nice tribute to Jim Cummings. I agree, he will show up and take on the Darkwing personal in real life. Launchpad even made a reference to Jim being one of the few actors who did his own stunts. His OWN STUNTS!

I thought this episode was amazing on so many levels. This show continues to exceeded my expectations. My God they snuck PEP into the show. PEP, the cola that Fenton invented/stole from Gyro in the original show. I am also amazed nobody has mentioned this before when the PEP soda machine has been in so many episodes.

Agree?
Sort of yeah, I loved the cameo.
Not crazy about how it sets him up though as far as sort of squashing a legit potential in-universe crossover.
Would have preferred he was an actual character who exists in-universe, not from a show they watch.
I think it's hysterical how many here (me included) want to reimagine the setup, so they can legit crossover, which is what people wanted anyway.
They should have just set it up that way.

Imagine the exact Darkwing clip, and as camera pulls out to reveal it's something Dewey is watching on TV, instead of him saying "what is this weird show!?" He's like -"just watched the weirdest news clip" And Launchpad is like, that's Darkwing Duck, the greatest vigilante of all time..." etc...

Similar for the Talespin, again love the nod, although:
Don Karnage and the Air-Pirates, reads more like a random fantasy montage Dewey has, rather than actual set up for the two worlds existing in the same Universe.

Not sure they are even implied as the same characters? Just a random nod to similar idea?

Which is fine, just wish they could actually crossover.

I'm so glad they include characters from Darkwing Duck. Hope to see the Talespin characters very soon.
See above.
It's a nice nod, but reads even more of a disconnect, it plays as just a random fantasy montage for Dewey.
Would have loved it if Cape Suzette, was set up more as an actual place Scrooge, Launchpad, Donald and Della had visited in their youth on a past adventure.
Maybe teamed-up with Baloo, Wildcat, Rebecca, Kit, and crew, against Don Karnage and the Air-Pirates.
Imagine Launchpad and crew, flying parallel to Baloo and the crew of the Sea-Duck against Karnage and the Air-Pirates.
That's the ultimate setup crossover reference I want to see.

Although anything is still possible, Webby's board still implies a potential crossover, as one of the past adventures..
Again, these simple nods are great!
Actual setup for a legit crossovers would be even better!

Personally if they keep a Duckwing Duck a fictional show, I am fine with that. Personally I prefer that. You guys may or may not know how feel about what happened with Daring Doo, or rather do without a repeat of that mistake.

I don't have a problem with Darkwing Duck being a tv show in this universe. Even beyond what Frank Angones said, I have a feeling that Darkwing Duck will have a larger role in the future. Even then, the characters still feel like themselves. This actually reminds me of the Disney Princess cameos on Sofia The First, where they come during moments where Sofia is in despair to help her out, but only for major scenes. Heck, some recurring voices from Sofia are in this series. This seems to serve the same function, with Darkwing Duck playing a part in Launchpad's character arc here.
