A thought-provoking question:

What is Disney Quality?

It's always being talked about, but what is it? Why is it important?

I mean, how can it be saved or brought back? Unless it's known what Disney Quality is, right?

So, what's the answer?

Disney quality is

compelling characters. Characters with passions and motivations that I can care about. I'm thinking Lilo's genius, how she and Nani deal with the pressure of life. The dynamic between Dumbo and Tim Mouse. The character interaction between the members of the Rescue Rangers, as well as the heartfelt motivations many of their arch enemies had ( "For years people have used my genius when my true heart was in rock and roll." )

Visually interesting settings. I love the naturalistic art for Bambi's forest, especially in the "April Showers" scene. But I also love the kitchy roadtrip background in "A Goofy
Movie". As well as the reality bending in "Aladdin" and "The Three Caballeros". Give us a world that's worth looking around.

I have often thought it was more of a visual quailty. But when I saw Emperors New Groove, I was like, whoa! It contained all the beautiful backdrops and well drawn out characters, but as far as non visual went, the humor seemed more WBish. A lot of slapstick. I did enjoy the movie, I will say that much. But I wouldnt blame anyone for mistaking it to be a nondisney production.

Also, recent animated series don't contain "Disney Quality." These are more of the visual aspects I was mentioning earlier. A great example is Lilo & Stitch. Since it was mentioned, it DOES contain the non visual "disney quailty" that emperors groove does not. But this may be due to the fact that the characters had two movies. As far as the series goes, note how when on character is talking that particular character is animated. The supporting characters currently not speaking are still, and motionless. All they do is blink. This is cheap, and therefore not disney quailty. Course, you also dont want a show in production for 4 years before airing it, so they MUST make shortcuts. "Disney quailty" has everyone alive! Good examples are the antelope stampeed in Lion King and the Festival of Fools in Hunback. Every caharacter moves, may it be 100, or a thousand. They all move, they are all alive. They are not a backdrop, they are characters.

Another possible "Disney Quailty" item may be the story. The evil villian who is evil beyond belief, the heros that are good in everyway. A character must die, or be in a fake-death state. heros get to mourn, and no matter where in the story this takes place, the hero triumps over evil. (snow white, sleeping beauty, Jungle Book, even 101 dalmations had it) But Lilo & Stitch? Ignoring the series and sequel movie, whos the bad guy? Gantu isnt. Is Jumba and Plickly? Nope. Is Cobra Bubbles? Nope. The High Council Woman? Nope. Stitch? Nope. Myrtle? ..maybe. Theres no evil villian. The heros have flaws. A character never dies (he gets hit by a truck, but doesnt die) Is this Disney?

What is Disney quality? Disney quality is KEEPING 2D ANIMATION!

Disney quality is ELIMINATING THE 65-EP POLICY FOR POPULAR SHOWS!

Character is the most important thing. In many cases, people get much more familiar and attached to characters they spend 65 or so half-hours with rather than an hour and a half, even though the latter has better animation due to its budget.

Im confused by this. Are you talking about the Pixar movies? They are like miramax; disney, but not disney. As for the recent 3d mickey xmas, and 3d donald duck ride at magic kindom, I dont think theres a problem with 2d.

The recent movies have more shadowing which gives them more of a 3D look, when comparing disney cartoons from the 40s and earlier. Is this what you were talking about? If you are, I like the new look.

That sounds more like formula than quality...

No, I'm not talking about Pixar movies. I am talking about 2D animated movies like Lion King, Pocahontas, Fox and the Hound, Robin Hood, Jungle Book, etc.....the movies that dont need high tech, fancy computer graphics to make.

You mean, you havent heard of Disney having shut down the Florida animation studios? That no more 2D animated movies will be made by Disney anymore?

This is what I'm been able to gather... Disney has no 2D features in development by its domestic animation staff, presumably based in Burbank still. 2D work is being done by television houses overseas for television, video and theatrical releases.

Lion King? You're mistaken... ...they NEEDED that technology to create the great antelope scene I spoke of earlier. Without it, they would all be insinct, or not moving, or maybe somthing else. They wouldnt be as realistic. Lion King and Pocahontas were mid 90s movies, and the rest you mentioned are ancient, early 80s and older! They dont even look near like their 90s conterparts since the technology wasnt availible. And when I view their old work, yeah, theyre still great and all, but not as cool as the new stuff. Their old animation style can be viewed almost like the cheap korean animation Disney hires to make their animated series. But that was amazing quality for the 40s. For todays era, it just looks cheap.

I am also confused by claiming that the closing of the FL studios means no more 2D. Lilo & Stitch were created at FL. So were Beauty & The Beast. So theyre 2D? Or are they not? They had the same shadowing and computer graphics that created Lion King and Pocahontas. And what about all those sequels that were made elsewhere? They werent 2D?

And I am still confused as to what you are refering to as not 2d. Please give examples of such movies.

I am well aware of the FL closing as I have a Donald Duck cell that was made and sold there... ...and I always loved visiting their MGM studio since 1) it was air conditioning 2) it was educational 3) you could sit down through some of it 4) hardly a line and 5) I got to see what movies they were going to come out with.

There's no such thing as "Disney" quality.

It's a myth. Like honest politicians.

But sometimes myths are what inspire people to create something Incredible; something beyond our normal expectations.

Well, I can tell you what Disney Quality isn't! *points to avatar*

:p Wow, that was oddly mean-spirited of me.
