I would have gone with Mad Love if it had been done in the original BTAS style, but since it wasn't I went with Harlequinade. Mad love was better storywise, but the animation's always a big factor on whether I like the episode or not.

Two Face part one is one of my all time favorite episodes. The fall of Harvey Dent, and the scenes of Dent's darker side Big Bad Harv brough out the realist features Two Face Suffers throught the rest of the series.

It took me two whole days to decide, but I finally decided to go with "Over the Edge". No words can express my love for that episode. Every minute of it had my heart hammering. "Heart of Ice" is in the lead for now, but it has hard competition with OTE. It would be great if OTE won, but "Heart if Ice" is my second favorite episode, so I'll still be happy if it wins.

See ya!

My favorite episodes

I was really stuck between Over the Edge, Almost Got Him, Perchance to Dream, Two-Face Part 1, and Robin's Recokoning....

In the end I went with Perchance to Dream....

However, this is not my favorite episode of all time.

Had Second Chance or I am the Night been on this poll they both would have toppled Perchance to Dream. I think Second Chance may have been the winner for me.

Tony Zucco...

Tony Zucco is one of the most believeable villians in the entire series. that is why I voted for this ep...Tony has characteristics which show his true nature, clearly and most importantly, believeably....There really are people like Zucco..Lots of them...but in Heart of Ice, the villian although likeable, and logicically developed, is an impossible person. He almost could not exist in his final form at the end of the story... Otherwise, these are very well done eps, and truly outstanding, as is Perchance to Dream.... Three Great Shows, a tough call... Too Bad, my favorite, the Grey Ghost, didn't even make the finals...Best to all....Stuart

Well, I choose...

Hmmm....

Thanks to those who offered advice. In the end I chose Twoface pt. 1, based on animation, plottwists, depth of character, and for that shriek in the hospital by Harvey at the end of the episode. I still tear up when that happens.

For the record, Heart of Ice was a close second.

I think someone mentioned that when they voted for Twoface pt. 1, they were voting for parts 1 and 2. I feel similar. You don't get the full story unless you watch both parts. I for one didn't know about the villian Twoface back in '92 when this episode came out, (I was new to comics that year), so when I saw the end of Part 1 I was left stumped. I thought for certain Harvey would be cured by the end of part two, ( "after all, nothing this tragic ever happens to the good guys, at least not in a cartoon," I said to myself). So I was truly heartbroken when I saw the end of Part 2 with Harvey going crazy over not being able to find his coin. A true masterpiece, both parts that is.

So that's my vote.

:)

Two-part episodes

Two-Face is a two-parter for a reason, yes. But I would argue that each part does stand on its own. In fact, they were not even written sequentially. Part II takes place an indeterminate amount of time after Part I (could be any matter of weeks or months). Same goes for Clayface and The Cat and the Claw. Besides, I don't see how you can possibly have a fair vote of two episodes against one. ;)

Almost Got 'Im has to be the best "fun" episode of the series! (imho) You get a good feel for so many Batman characters in this episode. I just love it. Sometimes, I wish the writers of the Batman comics would take a hint from the series and make a greater use of the Rogues Gallery in the comics.

I voted for Perchance to Dream because out of the 11 I find it the most interesting. Plus it had the Mad Hatter.

Over the Edge

I'm a little surprised Over the Edge is doing as well as it is. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic episode, but it's a newcomer from just a couple years ago. The early episodes that are on this list, those are classics! So while I can understand voting for it, I don't see how it's better than those early classics.

For an interesting comparrison, try this: It's like voting for Amazing Spiderman Issue 300 as the best Spiderman issue, because it's drawn by Todd McFarland, and has Venom in it(thus making it new and cool), instead of voting for Amazing Spiderman Issue 1, (or any early issue).

Or maybe voting Mark Mcguire, (did I spell that right?) as the greatest baseball player ever when you have to consider early legends like Babe Ruth or Mickey Mantle...

Just a thought, that's all...

Being considered 'classic' shouldn't put two powerful stories, one 'old' and one 'new', into two different leagues. And the BTAS = classic argument certainly didn't make Harley's Holiday a fave in your book. And Micheal Jordan beats Wilt Chamberlain; and Zelda 3 beats Zelda 1 in my book :p As long as the writers keep improving over time, then its all part of a 'Golden Age'. If things get crappier or overly different like in Comics, Art, or Music (but that is not the case here) then we can attempt to judge one era better than the other; but here - all the Batman: animated episodes have roughly the same quality, especially the two in question, and should be judged basically on the same level.

In other words: A good story is a good story. And both are very, very, very good stories.

A good episode, I afree the make up is a little realistic, but for years Bats has been creating ridculously perfect masks for himself - this doesn't surprise me!

Perchance To Dream. I love character episodes and the Bats VS Bruce in the tower is great fun. Thats my vote!

My vote had to go to "Over the Edge". That episode was my favorite episode in the whole series. C'mon "Over the Edge"! Just 6 votes behind the 1st Place "Heart of Ice". :D

['60s Batman comparison] Haven't you heard? He used his Bat-Killer-Crock-imitator-kit! [/'60s Batman comparison.]

I think it's funny that some people are pointing out that the Killer Croc disguise was "unrealistic," but no one seems to have a problem with Batman hiding a giant Thermos of hot chicken soup in his utility belt. Or the fact that he used it as a weapon against a guy who carried an ice-generating gun.

I loved the disguise from "Almost Got 'Im." I never felt like it was any more or less outlandish than anything else that happened in that episode. And the revelation of the deception was perfect. It was a combination of a good audio effect and a very clever visual effect that could have only been delivered through animation.

Oh yeah? Well, for the record, Harley's Holiday was a second season episode, thus not what I consider a classic, 1st season epsiode. :p Remember the second season? That's when they decided to throw caution to the wind, and let Paul Dini write every outlandish Harley plot that he could come to mind with? I loved her in the first season, but I could quickly tell when things were starting to get out of hand...

And nothing beats the original Zelda! ;)

And yes, I'm poking fan at you, just as your poking fun at me. At least I hope it's just in fun. :(

Go Twoface pt.1! The real treat here is to see who is going to end up in 3rd place!

LOL, :D  Yup, I found the chicken-soup solution rather silly, especially since the rest of the episode was so poignant.

I'm just dropping by here to encourage everyone not to vote like sheep. This is the final poll - vote for the episode YOU think is the best. I still need to vote, so I'm hoping that this one will continue beyond this week...

It has no chance now, but I'm voting for Two-Face. My review in the talkback thread from last Sunday should explain why. I think Heart of Ice is better than Over the Edge for several reasons, but the purpose of this poll is to vote for your favorite of the 10, not your preferred of the two breakaway choices. It's like that old saying, "The purpose of this poll is to vote for your favorite of the 10, not your preferred of the two breakaway choices."

Dream Sequence vs Heart of Ice.....

I would be for Heart of Ice in this close race....a dream sequence doesn't do it for me, no matter how great it is. Why? it is beyound the scope of the rest of the story...a make believe story within a given plot, not new ,when one thinks of the witches stirring their brew,I in think it was in from of a castle, "double double, toil and trouble....Still, the story itself, must stand, It is cold in that Heart of Ice, but I did like how they developed the character to have a sensitive side at certain points in the run...for a moment in Batman Beyound, we see a very senistive person, trying to make ammends...Remember, It was Linda Hamilton who was the doctor who put him back togeather? same Linda Hamilton who was in Terminator I and II? Best if Luck to the Winners.. and to thanks to all who make this possible ;) Stuart
