Weird Thing: Lack of Adult Western Cartoons with a female protagonist

There's one big thing that's been near non-existent in Adult Animation in the west, the lack of a Female protagonist. The field to this day had been dominated almost entirely by Male protagonists. Homer, Peter, Stan, Archer, The South Park Boys, Rick and Morty, Bob. The closest so far to an adult cartoon with the main character being female is Daria, but that's more of a Teen's show than an adult cartoon. That and perhaps maybe Aeon Flux.

Keep in mind, I'm not trying to be "woke" or SJW here. I honestly don't care if a protagonist is male or female just as long as they're an actual character before anything else. I'd be interested in seeing more female led Adult Cartoons provided they're actually good.

I think there are also a lot less female members on this forum...

I venture to say that the reason for this is because the audience for adult animation is predominantly male, thanks to the stigma that adult animation is nothing but crude/edgy humor that mainly appeals to males, no offense.

It's honestly not something I've thought of a lot. Do shows that don't center around only one main protagonist count?

I can't think of much with female main protagonists. There was Lucy, the Daughter of the Devil on Adult Swim. An old show on BET sort of animated like Dr Katz called Hey Monie. Mother Up on Hulu. Harley Quinn and Dazzler & Tigra are being made. It's a shame that there haven't been more done but adult animation is still very niche, even after 30 years of the Simpsons. It's not an excuse but it is a shame that it's something that gets overlooked as easily as it does.

Not animation, but my comic book in my sig has a female protagonist. I figured if nobody else was going to come up with a kick-butt female cartoon lead I'd have to do it myself.

It's a Web Animation, but I believe the Hazbin Hotel is an adult animation with a female protagonist.

There's a lot of untapped potential here. I don't think we've seen a lot of cartoons about single women, or even shows with mothers as the head of household. The closest we have gotten to the latter was Home Movies, though the mother there wasn't the central focus.

My guess is that adult cartoons are more popular amongst males than females.

People need to stop using "SJW" as a negative on the internet. Seriously it's an empty insult/scapegoat. Like just something actual toxic people use as a thinly veiled insult/admittance they're horrible people.

Anywho on topic. It would be nice to see more shows like Daria & Aeon Flux. Heck I'd love another Cyber Six!

But yes as "Adult" animation sadly ends up being extremely juvenile and mean-spirted shows like Family Guy and south park I can see why there aren't many with female leads. Though purely speaking of the action side it would be nice to see more shows with strong female leads

This is another time when DC is ahead of Marvel with two Wonder Woman movies, a Vixen streaming series and a Harley Quinn co-feature. Marvel just had the Black Widow co-feature. There is the Mosaic DTV that was connected to Stan Lee as well.

Some are saying that there are apparently not many female viewers of adult cartoons. However, I wonder if the lack of female viewers is why there's not that many female adult animation protagonists or the other way around. Regardless, I wouldn't mind more female protagonists in adult animation. Maybe having more of those would attract more women to watch adult animation.

To be honest, there's no shortage of female protagonists in webcomics. To name a few, there's Fern from Awful Hospital, Jo from Somewhere Other, Euline from Wimp Witch, Thistle and Lyra from Daughter of the Lillies, and Valerie from Sidekick Girl.

Yeah, I hear people complain that women don't watch adult oriented cartoons. Well, maybe they would if they were given a reason to.

Wow, I've never even heard of any of those. I'll have to check those out.
I thought of an adult show with a female lead: Stripperella.
And you see why women don't watch adult cartoons.

There's also been a lack of adult cartoons created by women, but FOX's two upcoming animated series Bless the Harts (Emily Spivey) and Duncanville (Amy Poehler) are probably going to change that if they both end up being a sleeper hit/success and allow for more women creator driven shows for adult animation.

I'll give them a fair shake, but ONLY if they're actually good and not being made just because somebody up top needs to fill some diversity quota. We just need good adult - aimed toons here, whether it's a man or a woman as the MC, regardless, not some social statements only being made to mask an overall bad product in-the-making.

Well there is:
  • Lucy, Daughter of the Devil
  • Daria
  • Stripperella (even if it was targeted to men)
  • Aeon Flux
  • Hey Monie!
  • Disenchantment
  • Upcoming Harley Quinn series
  • Upcoming Daria spin-off
  • Tuca & Bertie (upcoming)
  • Undone (upcoming)
Granted most of these are old, upcoming, or relatively unknown, but I see the difference in adult animated series with female protagonists.

Would Bee and Puppycat qualify as adult animation? That one has a female lead.

And as long as we're talking Web series, I know of a couple.

There’s Wendy Testaburger qualify serve as Main female Protagonist in South Park. Because she’s most female prominent and primary character in the show.

One (already forgotten) series comes to mind: Chicago Party Aunt. And there's also, Santa Inc.......the less said about that one, the better.

There's something about seeing kids cry after they mess up big time that really gets to me. One can definitely feel bad for Layla.
I don't know I gonna post it but i think I may had spread the disney abandoning blue sky studios like they did with fox kids/jetix propaganda onto awinger24 and now hes fears of paramount & warner bros
Europeans right now are experiencing the same Heatwave that africans face on a daily basis lol
