WBD Acquisition Thread

Gonna take Ellison's words with a grain of salt.
Ellisons are pathological liars.

Ellison didn't fix the major problems with linear TV and now, I'm feared that WBD linear channels would be much worse if it is under Paramount's control.

Honestly, I loved linear TV very much and I grew up with it.

If Disney owns WBD, it will might be okay than Paramount.

Disney is likely to maintain the status quo for most WBD channels but acquired anime shows on Disney XD is likely to be moved to Cartoon Network and possibly force all providers to include Cartoon Network on basic tier, along with Disney Channel. Adult Swim hour may be reduced by few hours. Preschool shows aired on CN likely move to Disney Junior block.

HBO would start to air Disney movies for sure, also TCM would have special block for Disney films.

Paramount would turn CN into spamming show channel.

Didn't Disney get this much hate when they acquired FOX and Marvel
Nope, Disney, Comcast, AT&T, Discovery, etc. all did everything by the book and only did lobbying to an extent.

Not so much. Expectations back then were high, but then things went haywire.

Everybody acted accordingly and nobody threw bribery and tribute right into the open like the Ellisons for all the public to see and then having admin officials brag about it (like a certain Defense Secretary’s CNN comment).

@Moe If this isn’t David Ellison wanting to speed-run as fast as possible into state-endorsed media with both Larry’s and foreign money before the U.S. regional war escalates further, then I don’t know what else is proof (can’t really say he’s an impartial party that makes political donations to both sides anymore):

"Welcome to the latest edition of Breaker.

In tonight’s edition, as we first reported, David Ellison is hosting a shindig next Thursday to honor the “Trump White House and CBS White House Correspondents.” The invite-only event comes just days before the White House Correspondents’ dinner, but as you’ll discover tonight, there’s a hole in Ellison’s plan to honor his staff.

Ellison Wonderland

(Exclusive.) On Tuesday, we broke the news that Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison is hosting an intimate gathering next week, “honoring the Trump White House and CBS White House Correspondents," at the Donald J. Trump United States Institute of Peace. That’s according to a copy of the invitation we obtained and reviewed (although Ellison forgot to invite Breaker.)

Breaker has now learned that although the invites have already gone out and say they will "honor" CBS White House Correspondents, none of the correspondents have even been invited to the event.

CBS News' White House coverage is led by Chief White House Correspondent Nancy Cordes and Senior White House Correspondent Weijia Jiang, who is also the president of the White House Correspondents Association. The network's D.C. team also boasts Ed O'Keefe, Olivia Rinaldi, and Robert Costa.

People familiar with the matter tell us that even though it is less than a week out from the event, CBS News boss Bari Weiss is still deciding on who will be invited.

Ellison may want to draft in Bari Weiss’ beefy bodyguards for the night. Breaker has also learned Public Citizen will join forces with several other organizations and members of Congress – and potentially a few celebrities – to protest outside Ellison's shindig.

Across Washington, invites are flying thick and fast as networks and publishers battle it out behind the scenes to score top-name guests at their table for the White House Correspondents' dinner.

As Breaker previously reported, CBS News has invited both Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller to be guests, joining Bari Weiss’ table for the April 25th event.

Reps for Paramount Skydance and CBS News did not comment."

No, not on extreme scale as Paramount-WBD.

I heard very, very, very heavy criticism with Paramount but it was much smaller when Disney bought 20th Century.

I believe that Ellison used political as tool to push the M&A that deeply divided the community since Disney avoid the political.

You may heard few hates like Disney closed Blue Sky Studios but most people didn't care about it as few in here like Harry sees as big deal.

My big hope for his Paramount-WBD to be stalled as long as possible to make extremely expensive for Ellison to eat, also lawsuit to stop this M&A.

no, largely due to a combination of acquisitions of this magnitude being unprecedented, and also marvel hype was considerably higher and so people were willing to ignore larger implications just to see the x-men and f4 join the mcu.

that's not to say there wasn't major criticism back then, however, there definitely was, but not as strong as now where the actual negative impacts of that merger have manifested. that combined with two devastating industry blows in the form of covid and large strikes have made industry people more easily agitated at the idea of more mergers

Well, in this case I guess the EU is pretty much ready to give the ok to the PSKY-WBD acquisition.
Actually, it seems that this article seems to suggest that the EU is relaxing its rules on mergers and acquisitions only when it comes to domestic European businesses buying or merging with fellow European businesses. Paramount, a Skydance Corporation's planned acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery does not count, since it's one American media conglomerate buying up another American media conglomerate.

Here's the relevant passage from the article (emphasis is mine):
But this is not a broad retreat from scrutiny. If anything, the opposite. Brussels is unlikely to ease its stance on foreign takeovers, especially by US groups.

The message is qualified: European companies should be allowed to get bigger; everyone else will continue to face the full weight of EU competition law.

They do have European divisions, though.

Watched Toy Story 5 today. It felt like another awesome escapade for the characters, while also they taught an important lesson: it's ok to be different, especially if you still like to play with toys. Lily turned from an antagonist to a hero of the movie, because of realising exactly that.

This heat is unbearable.
Going offline until further notice. David Ellison has won. I’m seeking therapy permanently rather than quitting life. Take care everyone. Once I leave the world into the void, I hope my life is better.
