Who will be in attendance once X-Men 97 gets under way next month? All the major players have been revealed in a new short trailer presented by Disney+…one character per second.
Professor X shoots thought circles from his cranium. Jean Grey prepares to shoot a noggin-bean of her own while flying after a crashing ship. Cyclops fires his eye blast at two robot soldiers. Forge runs across a battlefield while firing automatics in both hands. Beast loses control of a ship (hope it’s not the same one Jean was after). Nightcrawler engages in a classic Eroll Flynn-type swordfight. Morph changes into a samurai. Bishop fires some angry pink fist energy. Rogue yells while charging at something. Wolverine slashes in the snow. Storm, naturally, sucks up more airtime than anybody else by generating solar flares while dramatically speechifying.
Jubilee, Sunspot, Archangel, Psylocke and Cable get a half-second each…I don’t think Psylocke was confirmed until now; I’d like to know more. It’s more time than the also-rans get though..the trailer closes with flashes of newcomers Siryn, Havok, Multiple Man, Wolfsbane, Emma Frost, Polaris, and someone named Strong Man who really needed to come up with a better name.
The final character that appears is Magneto, who now sports a gray beard and is currently fighting for the good guys, at least for now. “Whatever forces await, we shall face them together,” he says, while Apocalypse — the main villain in both the past and the future — goes one-on-one with him in a brutal fight.
X-Men 97 Season Two stars the same posse of voice actors, many of them veterans from the original 1990s series this show continues from. The show features Ross Marquand as Professor X, Matthew Waterson as Magneto, Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Lenore Zann as Rogue and George Buza as Beast.
Season 2 of X-Men 97 premieres July 1 on Disney+.
