I dont think there was necessarily anything wrong with JL/JLU using lex luthor or that it felt like a sequel to stas; thats continuity which is great. Even his usage wasn't at the extent to which kingpin was used in spiderman tas. It makes sense that YJ would want to change it up a bit and not have luthor as leader to differentiate YJ from JL.

As for this joker, I thought that with greenwood as batman, I assumed dimaggio would be joker. I really liked dimaggio's performance and I actually wished they would have used him for YJ as it would have been nice to hear more performances from him. plus hes a veteran actor. I thought the actor who played joker did good. But it didn't necessarily wow me or disappoint. Sorta average for me.

I really like how vast this world is. Although I kind of agree with someone before that sometimes a few cameos aren't fully justified. I agree that humanite is an egotist and should have had dialogue. So either give justice to the character or don't include him.

- Why did Wolf get to go on this mission while Sphere was stuck at home? Were they worried that Sphere might be taken or something? I just struck me as odd.

- Yay! Icon and Ricochet. I'm sorry that Dwayne McDuffie didn't get to see these guys animated.

- Lots of good action and banter going on between the good characters. The villains were just kind of... there, however. Not even sure why the Joker was one of them beyond needing the Joker Toxin since he's never really struck me as a team player.
Sphere listens to orders to stay in the Cave?

Rocket. Not Ricochet.

I felt the same way you felt about Joker, but for Wotan. My memory tells me he was a bonafide loner and never joined any teams in the comics.

I think that was the first time Guy Gardner, Icon, or Rocket have ever been seen in animated form.

The ending for this week's show felt a bit "meh" after all of the action, but this series (I have been catching up from episode seven on over the past few days) has finally caused me to remove the rose-colored glasses that growing up with the DCAU gave me. Characters like Lex Luthor or Batman, who were very important to the DCAU, remain here but are written in a balanced way so that both the old fans and the new ones can be happy. I look forward to more great stories from the man who conceived Gargoyles.Mr. Weisman and his crew are not afraid to take risks or incorporate dialogue that is legitimately funny to older viewers. In other words, they don't see the need to pander to the soccer moms. Watching this show has made me just as giddy as I was watching Batman:TAS when I was a kid...

omg! rocket and "ICON". omg! lol

This was by far my least favorite episode so far and because I know everyone is going to disagree with me I am going to give every reason I didn't like it

I pretty much agree wholeheartedly. Although, I have to say I disliked it even more than you did. The Joker was terrible, and I love Brent Spiner but this is not a role for him; Ultra Humanite being used as nothing more than meager mercenary was an arrogant choice; Superboy's pet wolf is ludicrous to bring along, although it's already received a better treatment as part of the team than Artemis; and Megan is obnoxious, even moreso with the "Hello, Megan!" nonsense. It's never been delivered in a moment that has felt natural and is an intolerable break in the atmosphere whenever she says it, usually at the most random of times.

This episode, as the last few have been, was a complete mess. The fight in the latter bit of the episode was difficult to follow and jumped from each side vaguely engaging one another, to the YJ team apparently winning, and back to them getting their rears handed to them. The ex deus machina of the Fate helmet was terrible, especially with the ALMOST endearing twist that Aqualad would be trapped in the helmet only to be freed without incident. This sort of thing should have been used as an opportunity to find the next host for Fate, not to just use the helmet as an uber weapon.

In fairness, this episode wasn't nearly as terrible as the recent episodes "Terrors" or "Home Front," which were just painfully written schlock. It had the occasional scene that made it not that much of a loss of time to watch, such as Robin's "Timber" line after destroying the giant beanstalk monster thing, and occasional other aspects. Despite the wasted opportunity, it was nice to see Aqualad willing to sacrifice himself. This sort of episode has the moments that show that the series has a potential that isn't being met due to lackluster writing when it comes to action sequences and important character moments, as well as terrible character and voice actor casting. The choice of villains is a frequent fault of this show as it drops in villains both famous and obscure for the name recognition or WTF-reaction, but they're not used for anything beyond that. This week the most offensive casting was the Joker, in which both the character and the voice actor were terribly chosen. There was no reason to involve the Joker at all, and I can't buy that Batman would send anyone else but himself against him.

Overall, very disappointing.

I think that was the first time Guy Gardner, Icon, or Rocket have ever been seen in animated form.

Actually, Guy Gardner has been heavily featured in Batman: Brave and the Bold, especially in this last season with the formation of the JLI.

Gardner's been on Batman: The Brave and The Bold the past 2 years the show's been on air. Then he had a cameo on that Duck Dodger's Green Loontern episode.

Rocket. Not Ricochet.
D'oh! You're right! It's been a while since I read my Icon comics. I should remedy that.

A couple of other things that came to me:

- I think Captain Marvel wants to be part of the team rather than the Justice League since that team is closer to his actual age. Maybe he'll join permanently soon.

- Fate just doesn't seem to have much luck with the host bodies. Even though Kaldur is more mystically inclined than Wally, Wotan was still giving him trouble and I'd have to think that Wotan would be weaker than Klarion.

Gotta agree with this. I'm still scratching my head at the need to use Joker in this episode. He's not one to be anyone's pawn, so it seems bizarre that he'd go along with whatever the Light has planned. That and yes, his voice casting was completely insane. I have no issues with Spiner, but this role was not for him at all.

Wolf being immediately accepted into the team without even a single batting of an eye is also ridiculous. Especially after having an entire issue dealing with trust issues.

The entire episode seems like it suffered from meddling at some level that forced a number of odd and downright confusing choices.

Such an awesome episode! The Secret Society of Super Villains! Nice scheme, I liked the use of Poison Ivy. I'm glad we got to see a Heath Ledger-like Joker in animation, and I love Brent Spiner, but while there were some good bits, I wasn't completely sold on him (maybe because there were so many danged characters in this episode!). Wasn't a fan of the way they used Atomic Skull or Ultra Humanite either, but it was still good in the sense the team needed the League to save them.

I didn't think it was so smart of Batman to send the team against the SSOSV by themselves. I mean, the team had Black Adam on there! I understand that the League was needed to save lives and would come to the Legion of Doom-like headquarters as soon as they were done with that, but Batman could've at least let Captain Marvel stay with them, or someone fast enough to operate undetected like Flash or even Superman.

Still, I'd rather see the team fend for themselves, and they showed how resourceful they were, using Wolf, the Bio-Ship, and even the Helmet of Fate (that was a shock, I almost thought the Atom was in that bag).

I liked seeing all the cameos of heroes around the world (even Icon!), but my favorite was probably Roy working in Star City along Green Arrow and Black Canary. It's good to know he's not going to hold a grudge when the world needs him.

I liked Artemis' "Hello, Wally!" at the beginning of the episode, but her naked line was even funnier.

I am annoyed at Artemis and Robin taking those apparent lightning attacks for so long and getting up again like nothing happened. Im like "come on !".

I was thinking the same thing, although it is possible Robin's costume is insulated against something like that.

I'm disappointed robin and the joker didn't banter
I wanted to see their personalities clash

Robin probably knows Joker is a big enough threat that it takes all his concentration to watch everything he does. Joker likes to use his banter to distract his opponent, it's smart for Robin not to enage in that.

So does the JLA have a reserve roster in this show?

That'd make sense. Even though the League's active roster may be at 20 or so, they're smart enough to have the contact info of other heroes so they can call and coordinate when the world is threatened like this.

But if that's the case, why isn't the Justice League wondering who sent Black Manta to steal Starro? The IL doesn't have an underwater guy.

Do they know Black Manta was sent by someone?

Joker has been a sore loser on multiple occasions. Sticking with just animation there's Mad Love where he was quite angry when Batman told him that Harley came closer to beating him then he ever had, Return of the Joker where he was once again angry when Terry gained the upper hand in their battle, and various other Batman TAS episodes where he tends to look irritated that he lost, losing that trademark smile of his.

Don't forget when he found out he was the sucker in "Joker's Millions". He was not too happy that time.

I'm also very interested to learn more about what drives him. The way he uses the word "light" makes me think that, to him, this is more than just a cool name for his little secret society. This is a word that sums up something he deeply believes in.

True. Heck, for all we know, Vandal Savage was the one who discovered fire.

Mod Note: Inappropriate Language Replaced

Thats fine, I guess as a Joker fan I am used to the more win or lose I'm ganna smile Joker instead of bad loser (not to say he is not one-its more about the attitude) mindset and again I think it would have been way more fitting when he unleashed the Joker toxin if he was laughing instead of whining

To be fair, Joker did end up laughing as he released the toxin after his outburst.

Well Klarion as an easy target in his familiar and I think Fate is probably stronger in his tower.

Another issue I have with this episode, since when is money an issue for half those people

Joker and vertigo I can see wanting money but ultra huminite, hes a gorilla and I am pretty sure hes not walking into a store to by candy or something. The magic guy is magic, since when is money an issue for magical guys. But poisan Ivy! come on do the creators realize money is made from trees and that is her whole goal as a villain, to not kill plants, oh and apparently atomic skull was in this episode at some point but I don't remember.

I am glad I am not the only one who felt this episode was lackluster for a while I thought it was just me

...Best episode yet!!! ...LOVE all the cameos (especially the unexpected ones: Blue Devil, Plasticman, Guy Gardner, Icon & Rocket!!!) ...plus, the seemingly premature reveal of The Light coupled with their "proxies", The Secret Society of Super Villians!?! ...I'm sold on seeing this season thru ...and beyond :)

...I couldn't give two shakes about Joker or if he met anyone's expectations ...with all this series has done at such a great level of quality so far, I see no need to nit-pick. I'm all-too-excited for the season-1 DVD set so I can get all the screen-grabs I want from this eppy :D

I knew this ep would be impressive, given the villains, but wow. So many cameo and so much action. I need to re-watch it to catch everything.

But to the people who commented on extra JLA members, I doubt it. Weisman has stressed there's only sixteen members and we know who they are. He's never mentioned a backup team either, but someone can ask. Take it less as "more JL" and more "other heroes cameoing" It's like the 90s Marvel cartoons before they became obsessed with "character A can only appear in show A"

EDIT: Also, Guy was in Superman TAS. He was a mugger in Kyle's ep.

How was the use of Ultra-Humanite "arrogant"?

Also, this the first time in a long while that Megan has said it. Why do people act like she's been saying it forever?

I felt it was more of a power play. In the teaser, the Injustice League observes their successful test and Vertigo, I think, mentions they worked in the shadows too long and time they step into the light. The act of forcing the world to pay them an exorbitant amount of money is more to legitimize their power to everyone and establish themselves. The money, itself, is secondary to getting "bragging rights" so to speak.

"Everyone needs money, the question is how much."

The villains can easily have money transferred in to unmarked accounts, and secretly exchange goods and services from there. Also I'm pretty sure Poison Ivy has a credit card or two.:p

Also for all we know it was all a ruse. Remember Hugo Strange is running Belle Rave now. Wanna bet that's where most if not all the villains are going to.

Yeah point taken, I'm still not buying the ivy explanation but I can see the rest needing money/power I suppose

I think it was a good episode, not great, but good.

People should stop trying to find nitpicks about the Joker's design and voice....

They cant all be Mark Hamill.

actually, I'm surprised that the light only asked for 10 million dollars. in the grand scheme of things, that not a lot considering you're holding the entire world hostage.
it kind of reminds me of Dr.Evil, lol

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
