WBD Acquisition Thread

Paramount already closed down enough of its own TV channels beforehand, especially in Brazil and New Zealand. And besides, WBD already did an extensive enough content purge back in 2022 or so in order to deal with its own debt.

What more would you want a combined Warner Bros. Discovery/Paramount, a Skydance Corporation to do?
This would be catastrophic for some regions, there would be a much worse crisis

I presume the ex-Discovery channels other than the sports channels are at greatest risk of closing down after the Paramount acquisition of WBD closes, correct?

Linear TV is on a decline. It would be better if WBD decided to sell their cable channels as intended likely to Versant or another company that specializes in the market. Therefore, PSKY will have no choice but to call off the deal and Netflix could swoop back in and pay off their debt.

Netflix even acknowleged itself that it didn't "really need" WBD.

Not trying to fearmonger or something, after all, it's not up to us what happens with the acquisition, I said it many times.

Can we just directly go back to the topic of Paramount buying WBD
We didn't go off topic or meant to be off topic because geopolitical situation could indirectly topple the Paramount-WBD merger with possibly expense of us.

I think about there are multiple factors.

As for crossovers, it depends on creators and if creators aren't happy with merger, so crossover wouldn't be their priority as they have to deal with layoffs and reorganization.

Ellison's words are nothing because CEOs rarely followed their promises after mergers are finalized.

Paramount-WBD merger is pending so WBD can't do anything with their assets for now.

What do we now? There’s so much fear mongers and dimmers online. I got caught up in it and I do wish it gets stopped.
Netflix is done with WB.

Netflix is going to build more contents, so they would be more worth than WB and Paramount in near future. Creators would find Netflix to be very favorable and they have a lot of room to expand.

What will happen to Toonami under the new regime?

Nexstar and Tegna have now officially closed the acquisition.

Paramount will own WB very soon and it will be fast tracked. It’s over. Warner Bros. will die forever and Looney Tunes is doomed. This will never be challenged in court. PSKY and WB will be together forever.

FCC and DOJ will approve of PSKY’s takeover of WB and Ellison’s will own them forever.

*shake my head* You need to calm down.

Paramount-WBD merger and Nexstar-Tegna aren't same, even not close one.

In Paramount-WBD case, there is regulators from other countries have to review and whether to approve the merger that is absent in Nexstar-Tegna because it is strictly domestic, not international like Paramount and WBD operated their businesses.

FCC has no control in Paramount-WBD case, so it is purely DOJ and FTC.

Say WB will die and Looney Tunes is doomed are getting old very fast.

How you know about never challenged in the court? How you know Paramount would win the approval? After all, M&A is unpredictable and you don't know if it get approved or not.

Nexstar-Tegna merger may be finalized but court can stop the merger and force both to breakup. Paramount-WBD is not exception if state attorney generals win the case to kill the merger, so force both to breakup too.

Nexstar already closed the deal. Tegna stations are now owned by Nexstar. This is a preview of what we will see with Paramount getting exactly what they want.

We’ll see several layoffs at CNN and nearly all of WB’s animation staff. Everything will be solely Skydance and solely Paramount if the state attorneys don’t block the deal quickly.

My apologies. But the FCC 39% threshold really got ignored and it is making worried they are just ignoring laws and regulations like this.

I do not want to see David Ellison tax write off and destroy more beloved brands like that. It will decades to recover and tons of legal red tape if WB is going to survive this.

It won't stop the court from rule that merger is illegal and order both companies to break up, or halt the consolidation process until court plays out, so it means Nexstar and Tegna would be separated until court make a final ruling.

Both of Nexstar-Tegna and Paramount-WBD are bad comparison because it is domestic (US only) vs. international (all world).

Ellison has no control nor influence on WBD until merger is finalized otherwise it is violation of antitrust law.

WBD can do is continue the split and layoffs could be occurred within WBD that is unrelated to Paramount.

That is reason about why we have court to review if government handle with M&A properly and the court has power to kill the merger. It is judge's job to determine and rule based on merit.

I feel sorry for you but because some select content like Friends, TBBT, Ben 10, Regular Show etc was added to a service, it's not a good WB GE Streaming.
I don't think you feel sorry for me at all over what I said and HBO Max would've been a great streaming service had WBD (or more specifically their direct predecessor Warner Media) cared enough not to remove a lot of their animated shows that Tubi picked it up and didn't start it out as premium on day one.

Anyway, I wonder what's going to happen to the Star Trek comic books if the merger does get finalised. Will IDW continue publishing them or will DC regain the rights, not unlike how Marvel regained the comic book rights of Star Wars from Dark Horse after the Disney acquisition of Lucasfilm?

I think I've talked about this before.

Even after Disney bought Marvel, they still continue to license their IPs to other publishers like Fantagraphics, Dynamite, IDW and even Dark Horse.

Heck, even certain properties from WB and its sibling companies get published by comic book houses other than DC: Rick & Morty at Oni Press, Adventure Time and other more recent Cartoon Network shows at Boom! in the past, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack and other older Cartoon Network shows at IDW in the past, various Cartoon Network and Hanna-Barbera, etc. cartoons at Dynamite currently.

So, I say wait and see.

Another positive of this merger would be the opportunity for comedic [adult swim] originals to have daytime reruns on Comedy Central, something not possible on the Cartoon Network channel space.

It’s honestly more fiscal for WB to force PSKY to terminate the merger. WB could use the $7 billion in breakup fees to eat a huge chunk of their debt. Split from Discovery as planned and let them take a majority of their debt. WB does not need to merge but the hostile bidding really made it worse.

Everyone applause these two characters, for soon getting their own spin-off full animated series!!! (who would have expected a series with PB and Marceline anyway? I know they have an upcoming comic book series which will go well with)

Watched Toy Story 5 today. It felt like another awesome escapade for the characters, while also they taught an important lesson: it's ok to be different, especially if you still like to play with toys. Lily turned from an antagonist to a hero of the movie, because of realising exactly that.
