WBD Acquisition Thread

They could technically explain there's no reason to keep investing in SkyShowtime when they can divert that money back into their in-house operations, though.

Paramount+'s international expansion stalled but not impossible to see that being revived as they want to generate more money out of it.
They literally shut down Paramount+ in Nordic countries less than two years after it was launched there in favor of SkyShowtime. What makes you think Paramount would try to launch the actual Paramount+ service in the European markets where SkyShowtime is available?

And besides, wouldn't it make much more sense for Paramount to launch the proper Paramount+ service in South Africa, or in Belgium (with added Dutch localization) as a multilingual service available in Dutch, French and possibly German, or even adding full French and Italian localization to Paramount+ in Switzerland (assuming the service isn't already available in French and Italian beforehand)?

One positive aspect of Netflix getting WB is that WB's home media division can release the smash hit KPop Demon Hunters on physical media.

And as Netflix has been the US home to all episodic Pokemon content in recent years, I'd like to see an expansion of that if their acquisition of WB goes through by having some live-action shows set in Detective Pikachu's universe (with Legendary's help of course), to go with more theatrical films.

It's a different time from a couple of years ago, though, the people that decided to invest in SkyShowtime are no longer in charge.

If they continue Paramount+'s international expansion, it won't just be in South Africa, Belgium, Switzerland, it will rollout anywhere they want.

Except for the markets where SkyShowtime is available. Here's what it says on paramountplus.com/intl/:
* Paramount+ will not be launching in Albania, Andorra, Bulgaria, Bosnia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Spain, Slovakia, Slovenia or Sweden. Our content is available in those markets on SkyShowtime. Learn more at www.skyshowtime.com.
These are Paramount's words, not mine.

You never know when they'll change them :D

Just give $33-$34/share and that's it. I don't know what Ellison tries other than that.

They can change their minds if they decide to. Even Comcast can pull out of their SkyShowtime investment to refocus on Peacock if they want to.

Yup, it's up to them and whatever their plans for international expansion looks like.

We're talking of Paramount, masters of closing successful channels (like Game One) and doing questionable moves (like destroying MTV Germany).
So, maybe they can dip out of Sky Showtime and start launching P+ everywhere it doesn't exist.

That quickly? Wow

That's just what Paramount says, not anyone else. From the video description (underlined parts are mine for emphasis):

Warner Bros. has given Paramount a deadline of Feb. 23 to submit its “best and final” offer. “Paramount Skydance continues to mislead stockholders and distract from the facts,” Netflix Chief Legal Officer David Hyman said in a statement on Friday. “The facts are that routine HSR milestones do not signal DOJ approval nor that any decision has been made. They have not secured approvals needed to close and they are a long way from doing so.”

I really hope it won't be the case

It's basically $35 if you count the breakup fee but analysts believe the Netflix deal will crash and Warner Bros. will suffer the same affect as FOX. I mean how many 20th Century/FOX films had Disney released since buying it out in 2019??? With Warner Bros. they actually had successful IPs so I think the thing that will likely die is those blu ray or dvd movies I mean Netflix could as well confine that to streaming.

I for one don't care about that. If they add back what was removed during the Zaslav era, it's pretty much enough. They can simply talk with somebody else to release their series on home media.

Those analysts are just siding with Paramount.

But isn't the actual proper Peacock service exclusive to the United States? And also, how on earth is Paramount even supposed to launch Paramount+ in the current SkyShowtime markets in Europe if the situation on the ground ever somehow changes (even in Nordic countries, where Paramount+ was outright replaced with SkyShowtime)?

Besides, I just have the feeling that Peacock and Paramount+ as hypothetical independent streaming services in much of Europe could somehow end up with smaller libraries compared to SkyShowtime's current library. Plus, people paying for SkyShowtime subscriptions (like me) and ad revenue from users subscribed to the ad-supported tier will always be a constant source of revenue for the streaming service, especially as subscriber numbers grow over time!

Of course, who had to intervene :P

My prediction that nobody will get WBD still stands.

Here starts the fight, folks.
