[Treasure Boxed] No Saturday AS

So, wait...Wolf's Rain was mentioned in the Initiative as airing on Saturdays. Does this mean they made this decision in the last 48 hours?

Anyway, it sucks, I guess. I still don't see why Detective Case Conan Closed had to be delayed...and based on its airtime, the ATHF weekday slot is only temporary...I was hoping they'd use that slot for brief weekday runs of stuff like Sealab, Mission Hill, and Home Movies in the future.

Wolf's Rain and Inuyasha were both simply stated to air in April.

wow. Isn't that incredibly stupidass to have happen...

yes. rating will be better on Thursdays, even though people have to get up for high school/college/work earlier and they won't feel like watching programs you stick on the very end of the block, unlike Saturday, where most people are off. I see this damn logic.

You know this time last year I remember when a new block was just annouced. I also remember the reaction the Toonami fandom had when they heard of a block that would be airing reruns of shows that had aired on KWB and Toonami and was even premeiring two shows that had recently been on Toonami, but the block wasn't going to be Toonami. I also remember that quite few fans of Toonami didn't like the idea and overtime the situation didn't get any better in fact it got worse.

In fact it got so worse that in a few months SVES won't be around any longer it will be replaced by Toonami which in turn will be replaced by Migzui on weekdays. Now just about a year later and the Toonami fandom is in a simialr situation that fans of SVES were for about the entire year. Except now they have to contend with the fans of AS because their blocks' sudden time change has caused another block to be moved completly to another day. I guess history really does repeat itself huh???

It appears that all might not be lollipops and gumdrops on the Street of Willy.

If I am not mistaken different people at William's St. do different things right??? So the people who do Toonami may not be the people who Migzui or [adult swim] right???

I do not believe our problem was with SVES itself being on Saturday. If it was a problem of wanting Toonami to be on the air more then we'd be quite upset over the move of the block to Saturdays and Miguzi taking over weekdays.

I think our main problem was SVES stripping Toonami of exclusives and shows that rightly would have been great on Toonami. The result was a downward spiral of the quality of shows that aired on Toonami...6 runs of SD Gundam anyone?

In this case, AS looses Saturdays. You have a right to be upset, but not at Toonami. If your going to bring up this history repeats itself argument, let me point out that Adult Swim isn't going to loose quality because it doesn't have SATURDAY as an action movie day. Infact, AS will still be having it's movie day...it just won't be Saturday. Likewise, Toonami won't be taking shows that have been or belong on Adult Swim at the rate SVES was.

Besides, like Toonami fans are the kind of people who go out and do social things on Saturdays...Shouldn't the adults be bar hopping or something? :p

I have a theory about the changes. Okay, it's a couple of theories, and I put them on my site. I'm just going to focus on one of the major reasons why Cartoon Network made the decision to pull Adult Swim Action within a 48-hour timespan.

Have you guys been paying attention to the news, or read any newspapers lately? There is a major, major push by lawmakers to regulate and censor every aspect of broadcasting, mostly radio and television. This normally wouldn't phase cable television, but one paranoid lawmaker from Texas named Joe Barton figures that there ought to be some hearings about cable television and satelite television. Broadcasters like Bud Paxson, founder of the PAX network, are on the Hill asking for further hearings on cable networks and satellite companies. Mr. Paxson said he saw over 600 hours of pornography on cable and satellite television (now we know how he spends his free time). Of course pornography in his definition refers to shows and programming that offends him.

Media companies are becoming so paranoid about what's broadcast on television (even way before the Superbra incident, they were planning an assault on "indecency"). Live programs are no longer live (they're now on tape delay) and shows are being edited to conform to rigid scrutiny. Now, here's the thing. Up until yesterday, cable television was nowhere in the conversations in Washington. Broadcast outlets are jealous of the freedoms allowed on cable television, and the excuse Congressional regulators gave for that is because "people pay for cable programming, broadcast is free for all to watch." Now, broadcast regulators have begun pushing the lawmakers to go after cable as well as broadcast television. And cable has always been a domain of freedom, to a point.

This witchhunt on indecency has begun to freak out cable network groups like Turner Broadcast Systems. Adult Swim is currently the biggest draw for Cartoon Network, a network generally seen as a "children's network." When the network announced plans for the Saturday expansion of the action shows of Adult Swim, there was no spector of indecency hearing hovering over the network as there is now. Now, to have an adult-themed block on a night that usually draws younger audiences wouldn't have caused a murmur before the congressional scare. That's why they scheduled it in the first place. Now that threats of lengthy hearings that would present evidence in front of Congress (how would you guys feel if they showed something like Cowboy Bebop or Trigun in front of Congress as evidence of airing indecent programming on the network), they had to scrap the Saturday night Adult Swim block.

However, for a group of guys that had been working on the block since before New Years, how would you tell them that they couldn't have the bloc of hours that they wanted? Simple. You tell them that the ad sales department needed an hour for commercial space. The block doesn't get completely scrapped. It's now airing in a time period that shouldn't get the ire of soccer moms and paranoid politicians, Thursday nights from 11 PM to 2 AM rather than Saturday nights in the same period.

Of course some people would accuse me of using this space to take the blame off of Toonami. That's not true. I'm an investigator who researchs before he gets irrate at the wrong sources (well, that and the fact that my other theory suggests that CN doesn't want to give Williams Street dominion over a good chunk of the network).

Well this sucks, but my question is why not have Adult Swim on Friday night after Cartoon Cartoon Friday?

I think it's a bit more from column B. Cable TV won't be regulated because the people pay for it. They enter into a private contract.

Giving a upstart marketing group control over most of the network sounds a lot more fesable.

...

Um... MAJOR conflict of demographics too close? Or, uh, easy access for kids on Friday night?

Toonami alongside ASA isn't as big a leap of demographic as, say, SVES or Fridays alongside ASA.

I could care less what day Adult Swim Action is premiering/showing etc., It’s still going to be on for once a week. I actually prefer my shows on Thursdays. Saturdays are at times busy for me. The only thing that sucks is that the ASA premieres will receive only one episode per week. (Someone correct me if I’m wrong on this)

I could care less about what happens to Toonami. I haven’t watched a single second of it since Rurouni Kenshin was taken off. The huge thread over at the Toonami forums say “Oh Toonami will be back and better than ever”. How many times have we heard that before, and then Toonami dies again.

A few things to say about this:

1. For those people believing that "no AS on Saturday" is Toonami's fault: GROW UP!!! I'm pretty sure William Street (who is behind both Toonami and Adult Swim) would have wanted to have a line-up on Saturday consisting of Toonami and Adult Swim. However, the ad sales department at CN, not wanting to give up an hour of children's ad time, prevented it from happening. Thus, Toonami has nothing to do with this change of plan.

2. With Thursday being Action night, it looks like the main nights for AS will be the same nights that AS aired on when it began in 2001.

3. One question concerning the schedule change: with Thursdays being Action night, will "viewers card night" be moved to another night (i.e. Wednesday) or will the fanmade cards stop? Personally, I would love to see the fanmade cards continue airing on CN. Thus, I'm hoping that it will be moved to a new night when the new schedule goes into effect.

What? I don't see how SVES airing next to AS is any worse than Toonami airing next to it. SVES and Toonami are both aimed at the same demographic at the moment - 6-11. Supposedly, that'll change for Toonami soon, but that's far from a sure thing.

I don't have any idea where Friday came into this discussion or how it relates at all. AS has never and never attempted to air on Fridays.

This post has been edited for clarity.

Seriously guys you need to grow up a bit. I mean really we all getting angry for stupid reasons. I'm a fan of both Toonami, and Adult Swim, but remember they just two animation blocks of shows. All I want to say least we getting new stuff at all.

If the new Toonami is aimed at teens, why does the ad department want ad time there...

Because it won't be at first, but will evolve into one as new shows are picked up and such.

Honestly, I really don't give a damn, I'm gonna be wasted on Saturday nights anyway. No actual adults are gonna be home on a Saturday night besides nerds who have no social life. Well, actually, most of Adult Swim's audience is probably nerds...well...whatever...

I still hate the idea of seperating action and comedy. They should do more to get the comedy viewers to watch the action shows and get the action viewers to watch the comedy shows.

Oh well, that's the gist of what I have to say. Adult Swim has been grinding its way slowly downhill for a while now, so their odd decisions don't matter any more.

Re: No Saturday Adult Swim Action

I guess that CN Marketing Dept. really dislike's Williams Street a lot recently. Williams Street wanted control of Saturday evenings again. Guess they had a choice between having Toonami or Adult Swim. They went with Toonami, because it's the Oldest of the two blocks. Toonami started in 1997, Adult Swim started in 2001. Toonami lately hasn't had the resources that it once did, during it's Golden Era 1999-2001. Anyway, Williams Street may have not loss the battle yet with getting control of Saturday's.

Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
