"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

Well, December 1 as Naruto re-launch date does make sense as it is the same date when the channel, Toonami, will be launched in Asia.

That's most likely just a coincidence. The Toonami staff have stated several times via the Tumblr and DeMarco's twitter that they have no affiliation or involvement with Toonami Asia at all.

Oh, I had no idea. But certainly a +ve thing for the block, even if not affiliated.
You know, if the shoe fits, wear it. ;)

Toonami's Tumblr posted that they're fine with having 400,000 - 600,000 viewers at 2:30AM. I guess this means Eureka Seven is performing alright for them?

I saw!
So I guess if we can get the ratings to stay around there, we'll be okay.

Also, awesome on them for getting Naruto back.
I'm most likely in the minority of people around here who liked that show, and I'm happy that they're looking to keep it on past Bleach's eight-week hiatus if ratings hold up.
Even with years off the air and a new late time-slot, here's hoping the show's ratings from when it was on TV can be relatively close to where they were.
It's gonna be uncut now, so maybe that'll draw some people in. Fingers crossed.

Shouldn't Dragonball return to Toonami as well
I really dont see that happening. But wow. Naruto?? Toonami is where i first found the show, and now its uncut?? Yes plz. And is the reason for them not getting the rights to air it due to Disney XD? Or do they even still air it/have rights? Either way im really excited, rock lee gaara battle was too epic.

I'd prefer for them to focus on other new shows over getting yet another old show to air on the block. Naruto returning doesn't bother me as much as the idea of them getting DBZ on the block since Naruto isn't nearly as overplayed and DBZ Kai is already airing on two other channels. It would probably help them out in terms of ratings, but I'm hoping that with uncut Naruto, they won't have to do that and if they do get the kind of money it would take to get DBZ on the block, they'll use it for new shows instead.

nononono the dub is so bad we all have seen it , worst pacing ever no one wants to watch goku charge up for 5 episodes

While I would have preferred DBZ/DBZ Kai over Naruto, you're mostly right on this. At this moment, playing the Saiyan-Cell Games Saga seem redundant and I don't think ratings would turn out as good as Toonami would want it to be, making it kind of a waste of money.

I consider the Majin Buu saga to be an exception, though, since the saga has not been played on TV since 2004 and hasn't been nearly as overexposed as the earlier sagas. I'm not saying that they HAVE to get that saga on Toonami as there are other things to do that would benefit the block more (even if it's only qualitative, I would still say at the point IF they can obtain DBZ, that they should try to go with more "risky" projects), but if it's possible to buy only a few sagas instead of the entire series, then I'm fine with the decision.

He said Dragon Ball (not Z, GT, or Kai), you know the show that hasn't been on accessible US TV since like 2004.

I thought that he meant DBZ for some reason. Getting Dragon Ball would be better than the other series due to how long since it last aired in the U.S., but that's probably not likely to happen anytime soon due to their small budget.

According to Toonami's tumblr, the top three most requested shows aside from Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, and One Piece are Yu Yu Hakusho, Sailor Moon, and Zatch Bell.

Zatch Bell

...Seriously?

It's not a bad show, but couldn't they request something a bit better? I would have requested Zoids over that.

Did it even have that much of an impact on the block? Personally, I sometimes forget it even existed.

EDIT: I just realized something. Gundam doesn't even rank among the most requested shows?

I'm not too surprised that Yu Yu Hakusho and Sailor Moon are heavily requested. They were some of more popular shows on the original Toonami and there is that new Sailor Moon series coming out next summer as well. Zatch Bell kind of surprises me though. I liked what I saw of the series, but I didn't think it was that popular. I'd greatly prefer quite a few other series from Viz Media over Zatch Bell to be perfectly honest.

Zatch Bell is ??? when the entire series wasn't even dubbed, and in fact not all of the dubbed episodes were aired in the US. What was after it, Hamtaro?

Hey.

I don't care what anyone says. I'm an action buff and Hamtaro was friggin cute. Definetely take that over MLP...

Well, I guess a lot of people must have really liked Zatch Bell. Personally, I have fond memories of it and it used to be my third favorite Toonami show back in the 2005-2007 period (behind Bobobo-bobo-bobo and One Piece). It IS odd that more people are requesting it than they are more talked about Toonami favorites like Outlaw Star and Gundam, but if a lot of people liked Zatch Bell and want to see Zatch Bell on Toonami again, I can dig it.

If Toonami aired YuYu Hakusho, I would watch it. That show is awesome.

Maybe once Bleach finished, they could push Naruto up to Midnight, and than have YuYu Hakusho at 12:30.

But I'm surprised that Rurouni Kenshin din't make the top requested shows.
