In times when under David Zaslav, WB has been in more misses, more controversy and more scrutiny.

Yet, it does not occur that a lot has happened under Ann Sarnoff’s tenure as CEO of Warner Bros. Entertainment and Chairman of the WarnerMedia Studios and Networks group. Sarnoff was hired at a time when AT&T / WarnerMedia had the position vacant when Kevin Tsujihara stepped down due to a scandal. Between 2019 and 2022, her tenure was pretty brief. But it was eventful nevertheless.

Jason Kilar became the head of WarnerMedia in 2020 as they shifted gears during COVID focusing solely on HBO Max and consolidated their visions under one huge entity.

HBO Max led by Casey Bloys, WB Motion Picture Group led by Toby Emmerich, WB Global Brands, Franchises and Experiences led by Pam Lifford, and the former WB Global Kids, Young Adults and Classics unit led by Tom Ascheim. Sarnoff has purview of all content based divisions with Jason Kilar and John Stankey at the top of the hierarchy.

All of their ambitions got cut short by corporate shenanigans as AT&T planned to spin-off WarnerMedia with Discovery creating the merged WBD we all know today.

What are your thoughts and opinions of Ann Sarnoff’s tenure at WB? I myself assume that Sarnoff and Tom Ascheim pretty much had some major influence that went into decisions and day to day production choices behind the numerous animated brands and catering towards the preschool/young female audience market following in the footsteps of Nickelodeon and Disney.

This is just from the Kids and Family side of the business. I applaud her efforts to push for more equality and inclusion among unrepresented groups. Even with it without Kilar and corporate input, it was there when movies like Judas and the Black Messiah, In the Heights and King Richard had a unique voice. They were pushing for this with their established IP especially with DC.

What are your general opinions and thoughts on Ann Sarnoff’s era / tenure at Warner Bros.? It really got abrupt the moment Kilar and her stepped down. Whatever got approved by her is pretty much out of the rear view mirror soon.
