The Toonami Thread

[SIZE=-1]It seems like only a few years ago TOM was talking smack about the competition because Toonami had Naruto while other networks, like Disney, did not. How the tables have turned.

I'll admit that I thought the stab at Jake Long was clever little thing to do, since at the time I was a fan of both Naruto and American Dragon: Jake Long, but I liked Jake Long more at the time, and it still holds true to this day. I think that was the first time that they actually referenced a rival show like that.

Though, I was surprised they never TRIED to take a stab at Avatar.
Then again...

To be fair, I think when TOM took a jab at Jake Long, I think Naruto and Jake Long were on at the same timeslot. Since I do remember switching between the two shows when they were both on. Avatar never had that problem in the first place since they mostly premiered their episodes on Fridays.

Here's a game: imagine that Toonami's still around and that it retained its 4-7pm weekday spot. What would be playing right now? Try to be as realistic as possible.

4:00 Hot Wheels: Battle Force 5
4:30 Batman: Brave and the Bold
5:00 The Secret Saturdays
5:30 Ben 10: Alien Force
6:00 Star Wars: Clone Wars
6:30 Naruto
Basically every show currently airing on the unamed saturday night action block and Naruto would be airing. THIS IS AS REALISTIC IT CAN GET!

If Toonami was still around Naruto likely wouldn't be airing on DisneyXD, for one thing.

Actually, I don't think Cartoon network was going to pick up Shippuden anyway, so Toonami still being around wouldn't have changed a thing.

Gundam 00 would have a slot, though.

Yeah, because Cartoon Network was interested in picking it up back when it was available. Oh, wait, they weren't.

If they were, Toonami would still be on the air today. But Cartoon Network didn't want Gundam 00 and then the whole Naruto/Viz situation mucked up a lot of things. But yeah. Gundam 00 came on two months after Toonami ended. Just saying.

You mean Williams Street. There's a big difference. Every anime series currently on CN was either formerly a Toonami show or is a sequel to a Toonami show. Its CN that doesn't want to acquire new anime, not Williams Street.

No, I mean Cartoon Network, which, in case you didn't know, Williams Street is a part of.

I have it on good authority (i.e.the two blokes responsible for the creation of the block told me) that by the time Toonami was cancelled, Williams Street wasn't in full control of the acquisitions of Toonami. Toonami was mostly Techwood-run by the final years. Williams Street did the wraparounds, but Williams Street was more invested in Adult Swim than Toonami by the time the block was in its twilight months.

Cartoon Network management got stuck on stupid, third parties got greedy, stuff happened, Toonami got cancelled. Just saying.

Alright, I need one of you Toonami fans to help me out. Did Toonami air music videos around 2000-2001? I could have swore I saw a Gorillaz music video and the music video for Hell Bent by Kenna on there.

Am I crazy? :p

Yes. It was apart of the Toonami Midnight Run Special Edition. Featuring Gorillaz, Daft Punk, etc. Loved it.

That Midnight Run special edition was great. If I remember, it's what really got me into that Toonami style drum n' bass kinda music.

On another topic, anyone know anything about Reboot season DVDs coming out? I heard something about a Reboot movie coming up in the future, so DVD releases of the show are probably gonna be coming soon, right?

News to me. That explains the massive drop in inventiveness towards the end.

I'm not quite sure when I first started watching Toonami because it started when I was 7 but I remember the first cartoon I loved was Voltron. I was sad when Toonami took it off and then shortly after Cartoon Network started playing The Third Dimension instead.

I remember the lineup back then was

4:00 Sailor Moon
4:30 Thundercats
5:00 Voltron
5:30 Real Adventures of Johnny Quest

and Moltar was the host, not Tom

I'm not sure if thats the first toonami I watched but thats the first lineup I remember specifically because I watched it every day back in 3rd grade.

Regardless after Voltron got taken off, DBZ became my favorite cartoon then Ronin Warriors, Gundam Wing, Tenchi Muyo!, and just about every cartoon thereafter was a favorite of mine.

I really REALLY wish Cartoon Network would bring Toonami back. I'm about to be 20, and a world without Toonami is unfamiliar to me

Dude, you and I got to experience this when we were kids, and seeing how much it impacted our lives, we should consider ourselves lucky! kids dont have anything like that these days!

Should Cartoon Network bring back Toonami?

Alright I think it's time for all the would be dreamers and those who oppose their opinions to lay all the cards out on the table.

I want a serious debate and leave your bias at the door whether you're for or against. Give solid reasons as to why CN should or shouldn't bring back Toonami for a future generation. And before anyone says "the ratings were bad" that may have been the case from time to time but the ratings of Toonami generally were quite good so there's reason to believe it could do well again.

What does Toonami have to offer CN today?

If it has nothing to offer then it's time to put the old girl down.

The Voyo-exclusive Romanian dub of Garfield and Friends goes on with the second season now being relased. I was afraid they will forget about the show after only one season.

As someone who's Portuguese, it just bugs me again that we lost. I wanted Portugal to win this time because this is Ronaldo's last, but no, we think Ronaldo has devolved significantly, and we lost against Spain.

Conflicted about the upcoming film adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone, given the creator now distancing herself from it despite co-writing the screenplay and blocking one of the actresses on social media despite defending her casting in the film.
