The Toonami Thread

Hm, CN's Toonami page is still up.

Think it's just an oversight or are they saving the page in case it comes back?
It's an oversight. It's not linked on the main bar, and many of those shows aren't on the air not to mention there's a couple of empty spaces. And Jetstream doesn't exist anymore.

They don't care about Toonami so much that they didn't even take the time to delete it properly.

The fact that the Toonami page is still up after all this time is sad and funny at the same time.

Up until about a month ago, Toonami UK's website was still up as well, despite being gone for over two years prior to that.

I think they just took down Toonami.co.uk this week because I was doing some stuff with it a fortnight ago...

The series used for the bumpers asside... those are pretty cool looking bumpers if Cullen or Blum was the VO they'd be awesome.

EDIT (since no one has posted since this)

Hypothetical scenario... say Cartoon Network brought back Toonami in the near future. What do you think would air on it and what time would it air?

I guess much of this hinges on if Naruto on Disney XD truely draws a fair amount of CN's core demographic away but I think if they had Toonami again without Naruto as an option they might coinsider bringing back One Piece and in attempts to be edgier than XD's Shippudden run they might even let it run uncut from the begining (or at least not edited how it was on Toonami before unless they continue from Skypiea).

Along with that they'd most likely run Batman, Clone Wars and maybe Alien Force depending on if YAH remains or not if it does then it would keep the premieres for at least Alien Force and Clone Wars but Toonami might get encores of those and/or premieres of Batman.

Perhaps they'd try out Megas XLR again or Samurai Jack again (though now it's on Boomerang). Megas is due for it's random return like many other CN originals have had in the past couple of years, especially with Adult Swim airing Titan Maximum (oh right they hate synergy at Turner, almost slipped my mind).

SGT Frog is possible I guess maybe even more than One Piece but it's not really an action show so I'd rather see it on weekday evenings or afternoons.

If Viz starts getting more shows on Disney XD, CN might turn to FUNimation to combat that though it's not in the cards for D.Gray-Man IMO we might see Soul Eater but it's not looking good for it either. Whoever gets Reborn (FUNi or Viz) would have a companion show for Naruto or One Piece. I suppose the same could be said of Gintama but I have my doubts on that one getting on basic cable if on US television at all (but there's always the FUNimation channel if FUNi or Viz got it).

I'd certainly like to see Time Jam come out of hiding and perhaps Guardian's of Luna if that's still in the works but we'll have to wait and see on those.

Then there's CN's upcoming action originals. If Toonami was back I'm pretty certain Symbionic Titan would premiere on it and possibly Generator Rex unless they want to pair it with Ben 10 (and they probably do).

Now to consider the night. If YAH remains and remains on Friday then Saturday is available but if CN actually cares about what Disney XD is doing on Wednesday night they might put Toonami up against that line-up of premieres and have CN Real on Monday and/or Saturday.

If they didn't pick up anything new and made a rerun block out of Toonami... probably Batman, Clone Wars, Alien Force and I maybe Secret Saturdays and reruns of Naruto if they have them to air.

I'm also not ruling out the possiblity of CN airing the last 10 Naruto episodes possibly up against Shippudden premieres or somewhere else on the schedule though it's too little too late now.

Then there's Dragonball Kai which CN MIGHT want to nab but I'm guessing they're done with DB for good and most likely done with One Piece as well but either might come along to compete with Naruto is CN see's it as a threat to keeping their demographic watching (but they probably wont, they're pretty thick-headed like that and DXD is in less homes).

Now mind you I don't forsee Toonami coming back I just want to see what ideas you guys can come up with.

Of course the probabi

A programming block on a children's network that specialized in action and "unusual" programming compared to other shows that lasted 11 years, 3 days, and 7 hours and managed to develop an incredible fanbase is considered a "failure"?

What I was saying was that I don't see a really solid future anywhere on US television currently for the type of programming that used to be on Toonami/Adult Swim Action.

This can obviously be debated, but I don't think ANi-Monday or anything is nearly as popular/watched as CN was.

Damn, now there's no way to save that awesome Muse AMV . . .

I think I might actually have it saved somewhere..

Colossal text of doom, pain, and destruction

Cartoon Network has no one to blame but themselves for letting Naruto get away. Let's get that out of the way first.

If they brought Toonami back it would be as a cynical reaction to Naruto Shippuden doing well, nothing more and nothing less. The trick is whether the executives would even care if Naruto Shippuden crushes them. They are dead-set on what they are doing right now.

Viz and Cartoon Network are almost certainly done, and if Naruto Shippuden crushes Cartoon Network there's a good chance that Cartoon Network will take it out on Bleach no matter how badly AS wants to keep it around. That is, again, if they care either way.

D. Gray-man may still have a shot as international Cartoon Networks have run the show. It is my gut feeling that Cartoon Network USA has the rights and is sitting on them. Soul Eater looks AS-bound if at all.

They will not keep YAH around if they bring Toonami back. YAH is Toonami's replacement, after all.

Sym-bionic Titan is a certainty if the block comes back along with Generator Rex. Batman and Clone Wars will also likely run there.

If Naruto Shippuden does well it wouldn't surprise me to have Cartoon Network yank out the final episodes of Naruto and air them somewhere, most likely opposite Shippuden to blunt Shippuden's ratings. However, I am sure that Disney XD will wind up getting the original series soon, in fact, the TV rights may have already been lost.

If CN were to bring back Toonami, and if they were serious about it, it would most likely be either a weekday block or it's own channel. Preferably the latter. Both of CN's competitors have channels aimed at young adults (ABC Family and Teennick), but CN does not. There's Boomerang, but that's more like a companion channel.

As far as programming goes, I can think of at least ten shows off the top of my head that would be a good fit for the channel. But of course, it's all speculation.

Personally, I think CN would be better off increasing Boomerang's visibility nationwide (which is still an absolute mess) than trying to launch yet another extra channel. Just saying.

If CN brought back Toonami in order to compete with Shippuden, IMO, they'd half-ass it and wouldn't let Williams Street touch it at all. In the end, it would probably end up pretty bad. I'm not saying I don't want to see it on again (I would cry tears of joy if Toonami came back, even if it sucked), though, I'm just saying it probably won't be the rebirth we'd hope it would be.

Co-signed. Time-Warner needs to clean up the messes on the 2 cartoon channels that they already have before they even entertain the thought of launching a new one.

Why would you be happy with having Toonami return if it sucked? I have seen quite a bit of people post stuff like this when discussing things that are either over or cancelled and I will never understand why someone would want something back if it was 'half-ass' and 'sucked'. I guess different people want different things, but I would never want something to return if it was not going to get the treatment it deserved, namesake is not that important to me I guess.

I'd still be happy if it were half-assed to a point. I at least think that if it came back, there's always the opportunity for it to get better. :/ Meh, this is just all ifs-and-buts, because Toonami has no chance of coming back until CN has a new executive regime.

Toonami is likely coming back some time after Cartoon Express returns to the USA Network.

Even if Toonami came back, what shows would they have on it? Is the Toonami name that is important here? If Cartoon Network renamed YAH toonami, would that make people happy?

A Toonami return would be great if CN aquired some new anime from Japan, maybe 2 new serious based anime's mixed with something like Bakugan to lighten it up and then something like Alien Force or Clone Wars to draw in new fans. The only problem I see is that YAH would be without their two biggest shows, but I figure that YAH could get Gormiti, Brave & the Bold, The Secret Saturdays & Symbionic Titan, and both blocks could live long and enjoyable lives on CN.

But even if CN got a new regime, I am sure they would want to do something to plant their own seed into the network rather than rehash an old block and try to beef up a current block without two of it's biggest shows. Oh well. :crying:

Bakugan on Toonami...

NO.

Bakugan IMO is a really sad excuse for an extremely toyetic and badly dubbed series. I'd take Beyblade or the original Yu-Gi-Oh! much much sooner, as tho at least had SOME redeeming value.
