The Toonami Thread

I'm beginning to remember all my fun memories of watching Toonami circa 2003-2005, I miss it heavilly but a small part of me is glad it's gone because nothing can live forever and all good things must come to an end, especially if those good things have become a mere husk of their once former selves. At least stuff like bumpers and blogs are available online to read and watch and remember the greatness that was Toonami.

Alright, I'm not sure if anyone can help me on this, but the Toonami's theme for Zatch Bell was one of my favorites, and recently I heard it again on one of CN's commercials way early in the morning. I really need to know the name of the song or where I can find it. I think Ninja Tune does it, but I still don't know the title.
Here's a link to a promo with the song in the background:

Anyone have the slightest idea?

Was it the star wars commercial?

Did you try looking it up in Toonami Black Hole Megamix or Toonami Deep Space Bass?

has anyone been following Neo Toonami? They really been pushing to make new bumpers and live streams of shows. They even have a TOM 5 and SARA 3 in development. Somewhere I read that they have Jason Demarco in on the project.

TOM 5 and SARA 3, what??? What is Neo Toonami anyways? :anime:

On a side note, the reason Tom isn't doing anything but saying what's new in the comming months is because it's apart of Fusion Fall's Birthday Bash event. That's where you can meet all the new characters comming to Fusion Fall this year, such as FlapJack, Chowder, and Tom. I bet that Flap and Chowder make similar responses as Tom, too.

Yeah, I have both of them. It's not on there.
I think it was the commercial but I haven't heard the new Star Wars commercial in a while. Are you sure it was Cartoon Network? It could've been Adult Swim, they have some sweet music. But that music could have fitted in with Star Wars. I'm gonna look up some beats from Adult Swim. Even better, I'm gonna ask Jason DeMarco on Twitter if he knows the name of it.

Sweet, thanks. I don't think it was a Star Wars commercial, though. I don't remember it clearly, but I think it was for some game on CN's website.

Try looking at Williams Street related stuff. Williams Street created Toonami and Miguzi. Heck, check out Adult Swim.

After watching some Mobile Suit Gundam on Crunchyroll I got rather nostalgic and decided to poke around TDA and watch some old promos. Man... they just don't make promos like they used to at CN. Nor do they play such a great variety of shows.

It's really making me pine for an afternoon action block again.

Or on the flip side... I'd like to see Dragonball (not Z, not yet anyway) and Mobile Suit Gundam run on Boomerang as part of Boomeraction or possibly running along side other old shows that ran on Toonami for a nightly Boomerang Toonami block.

good Idea, but Here is the bad news Cartoon network has not money for anime, i don't think

It's not an issue of money (in fact, it costs less to acquire a show from an outside source than it does to produce an in-house show). Anime just isn't a very hot property in the U.S. right now. Anime's popularity in the States has fluctuated over the years, and right now, it's at a downtime. There would need to be another breakthrough hit from Japan like another Pokémon, Dragon Ball, Yu-Gi-Oh! or Naruto, something that's guaranteed to become a monster hit in the States in order to make Toon and the other cable/satellite networks keen to bring it over here. It'll probably happen again eventually, but right now, anime in the U.S. is experiencing a down low.

And looking at what's airing in Japan right now, it's not a shock at all. There's certainly very little that would be appropriate for CN to play themselves rather than Adult Swim.

Gonna say it again... all I want from CN is One Piece. If they'd air that again and not treat it like crap I wouldn't care what other action acquisitions they got or didn't. Though I'd still really like to see Time Jam come stateside and they could probably do that.

The big mistake Cartoon Network made was not putting Toonami back on weekdays in 2007. That was the perfect time. Naruto did well on Miguzi, just before it died and proved that action cartoons could get ratings on weekdays.

Also didn't think they should have put Prince of Tennis and Mar on Toonami. If anything, Hikaru no Go would have been much more popular than either of those two

As Blackstar mentioned, it has more to do with the fact that anime isn't too popular at the moment than it does with how Cartoon Network is doing financially. Some anime series were doing fine, like One Piece and Naruto, but obviously not good enough for Cartoon Network to keep them on the air. The only anime series that they seem content with are Pokemon, Bakugan and Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's right now.

That's true. I don't know how many of the more recent anime series could work on Cartoon Network or if they would be successful enough to keep on the air. Most of the other series I've seen or heard of would have a better fit on different channels and blocks than Cartoon Network.

That would be awesome. I wouldn't mind seeing Cartoon Network air One Piece again. Though, I'm not sure how likely that is at this point. Still, it would be fun, especially since I've been missing all of the second season DVD's.

I'm not sure about Prince of Tennis and MAR. After seeing the first episodes from both series, I thought that they had the potential to be pretty interesting series and they did give me more of a reason to watch Toonami. I think that their biggest mistake was airing the series out of order for a few weeks and then start back from the beginning again. That really confused me when they went from episode one to episode seven and elven for Prince of Tennis and MAR respectively.

I do agree that putting Hikaru No Go would have been a great choice, but I'm not sure if it would have been more popular than the other two series. It was an enjoyable series and it's one of the few series that Viz actually finished, so that was an extra plus if they had been able to air every episode.

If they don't want Naruto anymore, they're definitely not getting One Piece either. That's the sad reality.

I think SGT. Frog would do well on Cartoon Network but clearly they took a pass on that one too, so I don't know what else is currently available that Cartoon Network would want. Sands of Destruction has some kid appeal (though it's not Production I.G.'s finest hour) but it's a short series and it's pretty clear if that series was pitched it got passed on too.

In defense of those 2 shows, they might have succeeded on Toonami if Cartoon Network hadn't foolishly aired the episodes out of their original running order, making the story lines and plots impossible to follow. As Light Lucario already stated, this made it very confusing for viewers who weren't already familiar with the series.

Oh right your Zeni on the AS board and like I said there, HnG wasn't available for TV due to ImagineAsian having the rights already but I really don't think it would have done better than MAR or PoT, especially if it aired in the stupid way they did.

So which of the 4 TOM's was everyone's favorite? I have been looking over some old tapes I have from when I had to tape Toonami due to work or plans, I have not made my decision yet, I may have to watch some bumpers on YouTube tonight before my mind is made up.

TOM 3 though not much more than TOM 2. TOM 1 was fun though. TOM 4... well... not my cup of tea.
