The Official “Ask Jay Stephens” Thread!

1. In the Secret Saturdays wikia, it said that the comic "The Cannibal Curse" was the first time Zak's powers were revealed. What do they mean by that?
The first three Secret Saturdays comic stories (in CN Action Pack) were released before the series began airing, and are official prequels. In the first one, Zak uses his powers for the very first time.

2. We've all seen tragic moments in Doc and Drew's pasts, even Fiskerton had one. Where's Zak's amazing backstory that explains why he has something he has now or what made him what he is today?
You're watching it! Zak is going through a lot in the TV series that will either destroy him or make him a hero. This is his story.

3. How is it that Van Rook could go from a cold hearted villain to comedy relief just like that
He was always a little humorous-- right from the wisecracks in the pilot episode-- and who says he isn't cold-hearted anymore? Van Rook, like all the Saturdays cast, is a complicated character, and we're exploring another side of him.

1. Are Zak and Francis friends now?

2. Are Drew's parents dead? if not, will they appear in the series?

3. Why is Beeman so rude with Zak?

4. Is Zak Monday his world's version of Kur too?

I know this doesn't pertain too much to the main plot, but my overactive mind won't let me let it go.

How much thought have you put in the mirror's dimension? Do you have personalities and diffrences for characters other than the Saturday family? For example, is Argost a good guy or a really poor villan in that world? And if you had a chance, would you like to explore that world more in the main series?

How did you become an animator, and how many man-hours does it usually take on average to make an episode, without th audio recording?

Jay, is there a possibility of a paperback of the Saturdays comic stories?

1. Are Zak and Francis friends now?
Yes. Not the best of friends just yet, but certainly allies.

2. Are Drew's parents dead? if not, will they appear in the series?
Yes. Drew and Doyles' parents were killed in a Himalayan mishap many years ago.

3. Why is Beeman so rude with Zak?
Beeman is kind of rude with everybody! And he doesn't like kids much.

4. Is Zak Monday his world's version of Kur too?
Apparently yes.

As I've tried to point out before, the 'Monday' dimension isn't so much a world of 'opposites' as it is a dark refection of the Saturdays world. There definitely would be a Monday version of Argost somewhere in there, but I have yet to determine what he would be like.

Mr. Jay, if you would,

Is Zac human or cryptid? (Or is this something I'll have to wait to find out?!)

It says it in the first two episodes of season 2 and or 3, depending on how you view them.

In the episode "Return to the Nightmare Factory" Doc thought he lost his family. What did he mean by saying "Not Again?"

He meant by the Secret Scientists who died on Weird World, He thought that his family had the same fate as them.

Abbey seems to be adventuring sort, otherwise I can't imagine Van Rook would have viewed her as a prospect for apprenticeship. However, was she in on the shady side of things before Van Rook hired her? I can't imagine he'd approach her if she seemed squeaky clean, but how dark and "mercenary" was Abbey in her adventures before Van Rook showed up on the scene?

After tonight's episode, how far is Zak's range with his powers? If the whole answer is a spoiler, can you at least give me an idea? Please?

I knew the worlds weren't opposite, I was just wondering what everybody would be like in that world.

I do have another question about the mirror dimension. If Zak Saturday and Moday are both Kur and technically both cryptid, could they control each other, lol. :anime:

I KNOW, but I hate vague answers..gr..

I mean, I get the part about Zac being "All Kur", but I want a definite answer...

Is Kur just part of him, or is he and Kur one, and does that even make him cryptid or something else? And he's not a hybreed, half human half cryptid because I hate that. He's one or the other and I want to know.

I would like a definite answer to that question too since I have wondered the same thing. Is he one or the other?

How old did Zak turn in the recent episode?

Well, here's the official accounting for those keeping score at home:

Start of season one: Day zero, Zak is eleven.
End of season one: Six months have passed, unknown age.
Start of season two: Six more months, for a total of a year. Zak is twelve.
Current time: Unknown time has passed, Zak is now thirteen.

Sorry, no skipping here. Move along. :anime:

Why do I have this mental image of Argost riding atop a My Little Pony Pegasus and holding a bunch of daisies?

O.o Omg lol, that is not what I thought of, but that would make such a funny picture.

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
