The General "Computer Issues" Thread

This nonsense in linking YouTube with Google+ is the most frustrating thing I can remember in a long time. I don't even want to have a Google+ account, I'm accidentally on there because at the time that I set up my YouTube account, I used the e-mail address my whole family shares. Now every time I try to comment, it makes me link the two accounts and changes my name. If I do it within 14 days, I can unlink the two accounts, but it's annoying to do that every time I make a comment. Apparently all of the times I did it, it looks like it's added other accounts with the same name. What is going on? I don't suppose it's fixable?

As with anything the big g does, I doubt we'll be able to make it go away.

I use WordPad a lot, especially for preparing my blog posts in advance. Whenever I add a URL, it becomes clickable as soon as I include the http:// part, and sometimes being clickable from WordPad becomes an annoyance. Is there a way to turn this off? I looked, but WordPad doesn't seem to have a Preferences or similar option. (I have Windows 7, by the way.)

Android tries to parse your link here, too. :p

MS has broken a lot of the useful applications in win7. I did a search and it seems your problem is widespread. Best I can think of is to try the find and replacee trick. Type your links then tell it to replace
Code:
http://
with
Code:
http://
again. It might trick it.

I'm having a very annoying issue with Photoshop. Last night, I found an online guide on how to create 8-bit type graphics in Photoshop. It required me going to Preferences, selecting Guides, Grid & Slices, and making some adjustments to the presets there. But now, I can't get rid of the grid lines when creating a new image document, and even when I open images already on my computer, the grid appears overlaid on them. I've gone back to the Guides, Grid & Slices preferences and put them back to all the settings they were originally on, yet the grid lines still remain in new documents. It's like they just won't go away, and it's annoying and I have images I need to make for my blog. As a last ditch effort, I even did a system restore to the last checkpoint (a couple days ago), but that didn't solve anything. I also have somehow lost the "Save for Web" option, which still appears, but is no longer clickable.

Can anybody help? It's Photoshop 7.0 and I'm on Windows 7.

EDIT: Well, in my building confusion, I was so frustrated that I neglected to try something as simple as a quick Yahoo search to find the resolution. So never mind the first part. I found how to remove the grid. However, if anybody knows how I can get back the "Save for Web" feature (which I use all the time), it would be greatly appreciated. :)

I hadn't tried that. But, in my continued search for a resolution last night, I found out that apparently Save for Web is a plug-in! So I dug my old computer out of the closet (which still has Photoshop), hooked it up, and after some searching was able to find the appropriate file. I copied it over via flash drive, dropped it in the correct folder, and now everything's back to normal. What a relief! :)

So can anyone tell me if GoogleChrome is a good browser or not? I've been using Firefox for the longest, but it crapped out on me last night. When I tried to start it up, all I got was a window with this message:

XML Parsing Error: undefined entry
Location: chrome/mozapps/content/extensions/update
Line Number 14, Column 1
<wizard id = "updateWizard"

Someone suggested I might have a bad extension, but I don't know how to go about fixing that if that might even be the problem. I even tried posting it on the Mozilla forums but it wouldn't let me. I can't even seem to start an account at the forums. So until I figure out what's eating Firefox, I'm just using GoogleChrome. I can use IE, but it's kind of slow.

Chrome is all right if you get Adblock Plus for it. Vanilla Chrome lets too much garbage through.

If all else fails you can fix your Firefox by uninstalling it and doing a clean reinstall.

To start on the path of fixing your extension, check out this guide that Firefox psoted on their support pages.

This should help clear up the problems you're running into and kill off the bad extension

I've only got three extensions listed and one is automatically disabled since it says it's incompatible with the current Firefox version.

You can only try those things if you can open up Firefox at all, and that's something I can't do. Though actually, the only way I can open up Firefox right now is by going to IE and onto mozilla.com to download the latest version of Firefox. I've already got Firefox, but it'll actually come up that way if I do those things, and I shouldn't have to. I'm still working on getting the problem fixed.

It would be so much easier if they had a number to call.

These are directions to manually delete your extensions without opening Firefox.

Well it looks like my Firefox problem might be under control.

Now has anyone ever had this problem where it's as though when you click on something, it's as though you clicked on it twice? Like, you click to go back one page, and you actually go back two pages? What's that all about?

I had that happen with a laptop, and it turned out the mouse was worn down.

I am having internet connection problems when I download files.

I am downloading files to an external hard drive. I download a batch of multiple files at a time (5-10). Recently my downloads have been stalling and my network connection says limited access after a stalled download. When I turn off and on the wireless, I am good to go. I restart a download and the download stalls again and get limited access shortly after it stalls. I've been doing a download one at a time and it seems to be ok, but even one download stalls and I get a limited connection notification after the stalled download. Internet is fine when I do anything/everything else.

I download batches because I go away and do something else from my computer, so I really have no desire to do one at a time (especially if even one download stalls).

Everyone applause these two characters, for soon getting their own spin-off full animated series!!! (who would have expected a series with PB and Marceline anyway? I know they have an upcoming comic book series which will go well with)

Watched Toy Story 5 today. It felt like another awesome escapade for the characters, while also they taught an important lesson: it's ok to be different, especially if you still like to play with toys. Lily turned from an antagonist to a hero of the movie, because of realising exactly that.
