Computer Won't Turn On

I use a HP Compaq Presario f700 and it won't turn on. I push the power button, I hear it start to boot up, but 2 seconds later, I hear a soft beep and it doesn't turn on. I know it's not the hard drive because I took that out, put it in my boyfriend's computer, and his computer can still read it. I know it's not power because it's plugged into the wall. I opened it up and blew the dust out of it. Help! I'm using my aunt's computer right now.

My HP computer did that once when my RAM had become unseated. There are codes to the beeps that indicate different hardware failures. Is it just one beep or a series?

Shawn is right. Unseated RAM is a possible cause of this. Look over HP's support page for at http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bi...21957&prodSeriesId=3548233&objectID=c01732674. It'll provide you guidance as to what to do when this happens.

I took out and put the RAMs back in again, and still the same problem. I'll have a computer friend look it over. A few people told me it may be the power source, or I could've put the RAMs in wrong...

Ram is usually hard to put in incorrectly because of the notches. Did you push it in all the way?

My laptop usually makes beeps when it's low on power, so you might have a power source problem. It might just be the plug or maybe the whole unit.

uuuhhh, now i don't know if this is a site thing or a mac thing, but i don't know how to post pictures on here anymore. It was easy when i had a PC, but since switching to Mac, i can't seem to figure out how to do that. copy-pasting seems to just post the file's address, so the picture doesn't show up. help?

Are you clicking the image button in the editor or using BB Code?

For the code, you just do this:

nope, i can't see that image on my mac, i just see the URL, which is weird cause on my iPhone app, i can see the image. is there something i need to turn on or download? cause its the same problem on both safari and firefox. plus, i can't seem to be able to copy-paste pics from my hard drive on here, but i was able to do it on my PC. Instead, if i try to do that, it just posts the address of the file the pic is in. however, i am able to see everyone else's pictures in the photo album thread. am i doing something wrong?

As for your question, the site doesn't allow local attachments like you're doing. The only way for images to work is if you place them on a website and then link it here. You can do this using a site like http://imgur.com. That does work. You can also drag and drop an image from another site and it will show up in your post.

The only thing I can think of is that you somehow set Safari to not download images and then when you installed and ran Firefox the first time, you told it to copy over Safari's settings (which is the default unless you tell otherwise when clicking through that first-time launch menu it provides).

Try the steps from http://kb.mozillazine.org/Images_or_animations_don't_load in Firefox and see if that allows images to load for you.

You should be able to see this if it works (it's behind a spoiler tag).

i can see the little video thing. hm, so, ok, i see what your saying. I tested it out using an image on my Facebook page and that seemed to work just fine. So, i take it i can't just pull an image from iPhoto and put it on here?

That is correct. It has to be stored someplace online for you to then have it embedded here.

Okay, my audio has always worked fine on my TV when I hook my computer up to the TV with the HDMI cord...until tonight. I don't know what's gone wrong, but I plug in my HDMI cord tonight (like I usually do) change the input on the TV to HDMI1...and I can see my desktop background on the TV screen, but as much as I try to hear the youtube videos I want to listen to...I get nothing. There's no audio on my TV. Instead, the audio continues to play out of the computer speakers.

What the heck is going on and how can I fix this? I don't understand it, why it's doing this now, when it's worked fine for months...

You have to make sure that you're HDMI output is enabled in the Sounds settings in the Control Panel, possibly even setting your HDMI output as the default audio method. In some cases the change is immediate, but in others you have to restart your system in order for the change to take effect.

I don't even see an HDMI output anymore...it's like the computer has forgotten it's there.

Nevermind, I was able to figure it out. The HDMi sound had become disabled somehow. I had to re-enable it.

My new iPhone 4S is an immensely fun toy. However, when I try to sync it, even if I have it unchecked, it tries to sync to my Yahoo address book when I do not want it to do that. This is annoying. Anyone?
