The General "Computer Issues" Thread

THat shuld have nothing to do with the red bar. Try flushing out your cookies from Youtube in Firefox and re-loading the page. Follow the guide at https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Deleting cookies#w_delete-cookies-for-a-single-site for how to delete cookies from only one site.

If you really really want to clean it out but good though, download Flash Player Uninstaller which is Adobe's painless way of flushing out any version of Flash on your PC. Then you can download the current version of Flash for IE and Non-IE browsers (it's a different version number for each currently per http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/)

Flash for IE - http://filehippo.com/download_flashplayer_ie/
Flash for Non-IE - http://filehippo.com/download_flashplayer_firefox/

I use FileHippo.com for the downloads of this because Adobe's way of getting Flash is rather crappy and makes you open up both browsers to do it.

Re-install both versions of Flash and you should be set.

You=awesome. Clearing the cookies worked fine. If only I could get YR to work, and iPhone is still intermittent :p. On another note, my old keyboard broke. It was actually from Gateway, and had a mute and volume control button, but more importantly it had an eject key that opened and closed the DVD/CD drive. The button on the CPU itself is rather poorly designed, making pushing the button much harder than necessary. My parent bought the new keyboard, and to be perfectly honest, I really don't want to spend the money on another with those keys, assuming I could find it, and I have no clue what the expense would be. If I go to MY COMPUTER, I can right-click the drive to open it, but is there any way to close it other than pushing it shut?

For an eject shortcut, try this guide http://www.socialblogr.com/2010/12/...ddvd-keyboard-shortcut-hotkey-on-windows.html

For the iPhone, have you tried doing a full backup of everything and then doing a restore back to its original state?

Do you have an ad blocker turned on when you visit the sites with videos? I'm not sure what would cause this problem unless it was outdated flash or a blocker interrupting the player.

It cant be adblocker as i still get the advertisements around the player, just not the main video (or the ad before the video) itself.

I can eject it fine. It's getting it to go back in without pushing it that's an issue.
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html will do the trick.

Follow the guide at http://www.pcwatch.com/Windows-7-tips/Shortcut-for-Ejecting-the-CD-or-DVD-Drive.html for more info. You can use the cdrom close command instead of cdrom open.

One more thing with the iPhone. Have you tried syncing on any other computer and does the same thing happen? At that point it's more than likely an issue with the hardware. Either the USB cable or the phone itself.

What are you using to block the ads? Did you make the rule yourself or are you subscribing to a list of some sort?

Actually, i checked my computer and i dont have an adblocker anymore, but it cant be that anyway as the site was working fine until last night. Like i said, it still works fine on AOL, just not on firefox or IE.

Weird. Did you recently download any video plugins (veoh, realplayer, etc) that might interfere with blip.tv?

So last night I streamed a program from Netflix for the first time. My computer has HDMI output, so I used that to connect to my TV to watch the program that way. However, I couldn't get any audio, and after fiddling around for awhile to no avail, I eventually just had to use a second cable to connect my computer's Audio Output to my stereo. It's centered with my TV already, so it wasn't distracting having the audio come out of the stereo speakers, but it was strange that I couldn't get audio from the HDMI output.

I did have to find and select a setting in order to get my computer screen to properly appear on my TV (at first only the desktop wallpaper showed up), so that I could log into my Netflix account and such, so is there another setting I should check in order to also get the audio output via the HDMI connection as well?

Kelly to the rescue!

When your wallpaper showed up, did you try moving your mouse over to that monitor? I think I know what happened there- the computer assumed you were a huge geek like me and wanted two monitors. So what it did was turn the second monitor into the other half of your desktop. Example:

deskw.jpg

That's what my desktop looks like since I have two monitors (don't ask about the nyans. I put them there so I don't get burn in on the other monitor :p). You usually have to tell Windows specifically that you just want to "clone" the picture (this is done on laptops with a function key, otherwise you go into Control Panel -> Display -> Change display settings).

Now, about the HDMI audio- chances are that your graphics card's HDMI audio driver is outdated or missing. Right click on the volume icon when the HDMI cord is plugged in and pick Playback devices. You should see one that says High Definition audio or HDMI. Set it as the default device via right click, and see if you hear anything. If not (or if it's not there) you will need to update some drivers. That part is specific to your video card and I can't help unless I know the exact model.

Yup, that all did it. While fiddling around trying things the first time, I had right clicked on the desktop and went Graphics Options > Output To (which only appeared while the HDMI was connected) > Extended Desktop, and that gave me the swap, putting the desktop on my TV and displaying only the wallpaper on the PC monitor. But the cloning step you gave me and the Right Click > Playback Devices on the speaker icon work beautifully, and I got sound with just the HDMI connection.

So a big thank you! :D

OK I really need help with Gmail...

My account is disabled and I can't do anything about it. When I log in it redirects me to a page that says my account is disabled. This has happened before, but I used to be able to enter my phone number and they would give me a code to activate it again. But now all I can do is go to a link that says "contact us". When I do that it it takes me to a page that lets me type in my email address and say what happened when I tried to login. Then you submit that information to them and wait for them to do something. Well nothing has happened for weeks and I've done this 2 or 3 times. I've read over the terms of agreement and I don't think I've done anything to violate them. Please help me. I can't use Gmail at all and I need the account to work to log into Facebook.

Taskbar is on top instead of the bottom for some reason. How do I move it back?

Should be as simple as draging it to the bottom. If that doesn't work, right click on it and click properties. Location should be one of the options from there.

If it doesn't move when you drag it, right click and uncheck "lock taskbar". You can then move it and relock.

Hit F11, that toggles fullscreen mode. I've done this myself and it was annoying until I figured it out.

I guess the question was deleted, but this is what you do when your Firefox suddenly fills your whole screen.

The NirCmd thing doesn't seem to work for me.

It's arbitrarily started working again. I should just cut my loses and reformat, but it'd just take so bloody long.

Well, my laptop randomly quit working and is now stuck in repair mode every time I reboot. Took it to a guy I know, said that there's either a problem with Windows or the hard drive is going out. Either way, it's going to cost a decent chunk of change (for someone of my income) to fix.

I'm hoping and praying my hard drive isn't failing. For one, it'd be more expensive to fix. Secondly, the computer is barely two years old, which makes the failure that much more ridiculous. And most importantly, I have over five years' worth of stories and artwork stored on that hard drive, and I was unfortunately too nearsighted to think about backing it all up in case of emergency. It may just be a piece of technology, but I've stored a portion of my life on that hard drive.

Needless to say, I'm worried, but I'll save the pity party until the verdict comes in later today. :\

EDIT: Of course, it was the hard drive. The last five years' worth of creative endeavors, gone, just like that. What a devastating month I'm having.

Everyone applause these two characters, for soon getting their own spin-off full animated series!!! (who would have expected a series with PB and Marceline anyway? I know they have an upcoming comic book series which will go well with)

Watched Toy Story 5 today. It felt like another awesome escapade for the characters, while also they taught an important lesson: it's ok to be different, especially if you still like to play with toys. Lily turned from an antagonist to a hero of the movie, because of realising exactly that.

My heart goes out to anyone in Venezuela after yesterday's devastating events…
