The DCU Figures Customizers Thread, Part 5 (Potential Spoilers)

DB, I'm going to assume you mean the hair on WONDERPIG, 'cause I worked my butt off getting Circe's hair to be what I thought was pretty close to dead-on.

In no way am I dissing Circe...I bow to Circe! But I mean, getting really sharp angles on hair seems to be tricky. I remember people's attempts at Killer Frost usually feature more rounded bangs, simply because it's hard to sculpt the material, I'd assume...

The angles you speak of can be tough to achieve. But after studying LOTS of images, I felt Circe's hair was more curvey than angle-ey. It was so fluid in it's animation, it's a tough call.

Oh definitely. And it changes throughout the episode. In the climax, it looks more like the way you made it, which is great since you also made a singing Circe :)

Maybe next time I'll include a sound chip.

If only all women looked like Casimir's (plastic!) women...

Beautiful Circe, Volcana & Stargirl! I tip my cap, sir! :)

Wow, I love so many of these customs, especially the dcau figures (No, really?:p) But I have to say that I actually like Battle Pope (being a Catholic, mind you, so I'm not biased against anyone or anything), with Damaged John Stewart as a close second. The Justice Lords Unlimited look sweet, though I can't see someone like Green Arrow joining such a controlling govt (still, that's one hell of a batch of customs).

For me, these are figures, not statues. I kinda like non-sharp edges and such. In my view, a custom figure should look like a figure from a store, as if it were made, not a full blown crafted statue or maquette that costs upwards of $100 bucks etc.

For my own livewire, I made the hair fatter and less pointy in the hair on purpose thinking that's how the fig might be made. I'm also less likely to sand joints etc, for this same reason.

Just stating an opinion for discussion here is all. It's in no way related to or judging Casimir's work. I'd be just helpful giving Casimir tips as I would giving golf tips to Tiger Woods.

I haven't really had the opportunity to peruse Custom Con as in depth as I like to yet, but so far what I've seen has been really great!

Happy Anniversary to Innanimate Objects! I love the "This Little Piggy" customs, and Star Girl and Volcana are poifect!

Thanks to all who've commented on the Bizarro Inc. entries, hopefully I'll have a chance for some more in depth comments on CC later, I just haven't had an AC adapter for my laptop for about a week now.;)

Awesome Selina!

AHA! I almost completely overlooked that very cool new Selina Kyle on Inanimate Objects! And just because she wasn't there at Custom Con. Shame on me! Rock on Cas!

Thanks again everybody! I'm just happy to be among such good company at this CC, like Tyke and Bizarro Inc.

Actualy, DK, Selina is in CustomCon, just not with my "normal" entry. She was supposed to go up on Thursday, but Bobbi got delayed. So I guess she'll go up today (Friday). I didn't know that when I uploaded all the new stuff to IO at the same time.

Ah indeed! Well she is awesome, and your sprucing up of the Mattel Volcana is very nice as well. More nice stuff for day five.

Friday's Customcon Entries:

What are MUNNIES? I love them! The Munny World entry is by far the most creative and eye-popping idea!

Those CATWOMAN entries are astounding!

Someone kidnap the customizer that made the BUFFY portals! Force that customizer to make light-up BOOMTUBES for our DCAU figs! Nice ideas!

NAKED SUPERHEROES. Might offend DB, but this here is an idea I never thought I'd see. I know I made a Mr. Freeze in his underwear a while back, but never did I assume I'd one day see the JLU "in their natural habitat" like this! Nice work.

MUPPETS WIZARD OF OZ: My favorite entry! And not a bad movie, I might add (some adult-level jokes are made by Gonzo now and then).

SILVERHAWKS? Oh, man. Me likey.

Movie HEMAN figures: awesome. Makes me cry (because they remind me just how cool the costumes were, and how bad the script was).

JLU fans, check out "The Charleton Project". Beautiful work (Peacemaker is my fav.)

THE LEAGUE OF MARVELS: I"m a DC guy, but such quality customs just may change my taste---I'm now desiring more Marvel customs of such caliber!

I've got some questions:

1. Does anyone know how to open up Superman and Batman? I've got spare JLord versions of each which either has the legs falling off or the head about to pop. I want to take them apart, fix the issues, and then put them back together to customize.

2. I plan to make Superman into the version from BB, and turn Batman in a Terry figure, what type of red, black, and white paints should I use? For Batman, I pretty much just need to cover up the grey with the black (and his mouth area), and paint the bat symbol red. For Superman, I just need to paint white where the cape belonged and give him sideburns.

3. Where can I buy these paints?

1. Opening up figures is tough. If you follow the link in Casimir's sig, to Inanimate Objects, he has a FAQ that touches on the 'boil and pop' method for removing heads (dunno about arms for this method). Also, following the link in Tyke's sig to Raving Toy Maniacs, look for a link on that site to the guides. I just read one for beginners that talks about splitting open torsos with an Xacto knife. Be prepared to accept that you might ruin the figure though, just so you're of the mindset in case it happens. for what it's worth, my JL batman has a pretty crpaay head too. Guess Mattel isn't big on QA.

2. Read the threads here, I asked about paints not too long ago (in this thread I think). Again, Tyke and Casimir have been great answering questions. Casimir's FAQ also talks about paints. I will say however, that they sold me on priming. It really is a big difference.

3. Same as #2.

man some great ones today, but the JLU locker room was just not very cool,
actually it was pretty nasty, :raven: but good job on the figures, whoever did them... ;)

I don't know---that Justice League locker room entry by Mr. Axelrod gave me my first real gut-laugh of the week. Chest hair in the shape of superhero emblems? Priceless. :D

Some New stuff

Hi All!

I've really been enjoying the updates here, at Custom Con, and at Casimir's site! Although I haven't been doing much customizing lately, I feel inspired to do more soon! I do want to share a little project I have been working on, however. Using a bunch of great images ideas from the Justice League: Metro Tower Unlimited website, I have been working on displays for my figures. I thought I'd share a few images here. Big thanks to the folks at Metro Tower for sharing these materials with the rest of us!

I also just loved Casimir's new Zatanna custom! As he reminded us, j3h had done a Danger Girl head swap version of this to great effect. Since I had just such a figure laying around, I decided to give it a try. Its not much of a custom, but here it is anyway.

I can't possibly tell you all how much a enjoy poping in here from time to time and being overwhelmed by the creativity and talent I see. It really makes me want to get back at it myself!

Thanks!

ANPU: those are some mind-blowing photos! thanks for sharing! I especially like the one with Flash and MM looking out the window, into deep space. I get a feeling there's a real "man-to-martian" dialogue going on. Nice.

I also love seeing all of those customs in their proper environment! Fire and Ice look great, and Inza being spooked by Etrigan is priceless. Little add-ons are nice, too, like Vigilante's extra holster/gun that Casimir did, too, a while back.

Very nice.

Nice setup, it was tricky to tell the 'real' figs from the customs. Any chance of some close ups of your customs from this set?

Earlier Customs

Thanks for the kind comments guys! I was trying to create a scene rather than just display the figures.

Pixellj, if you snoop around in the earlier pictures in that same gallery these pictures are in, you can see some close-ups of some of the customs in that scene.

Anpu, thanks for showing us what some of Christophe's palyset pieces look like assembled. You did a great job. I can't wait to assemble mine! (Which might be 2010, at this point.)

Here's a fun article I wrote on why Ruby and Jade from Sofia The First are good characters.
Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
