This is a bit of a tangent, but even if you didn't know that Butch Hartman and Seth MacFarlane were friends who went to the same college and worked on various cartoons together on Cartoon Network before moving onto their own series, there's an incredible load of similarities in their work. They started off with their most popular cartoon in the late 90's early 2000's which were mostly pure on comedy taking place in worlds where there wasn't any real logic or grand narratives but over time tried to have some bit of depths in there. Both of which were series which after three seasons supposedly ended but due to the popularity of each were brought back for more episodes where many agreed they ran out of steam and jumped the shark several times over and is a wonder why they're still around. In the mid 2000's each had a second series that though had similarities to the first, was also attempting to be a bit more mature and have more a focus on character then on just total goofball humor and are slightly more realistic. Both honestly I feel are incredibly overrated since even if they do have more consistent writing then the original shows aren't nearly as funny and the ideas they used aren't that revolutionary and other cartoons have honestly done them a lot better. And then in the late 2000s/early 2010's they released their likely third and final series they officially were behind creating. This series was more pure on goofiness or the general tone people expected from them and seemed to many to be the biggest waste and most pointless of their works, and had the shortest run time. I always find it ironic that Seth's shows are much more popular then Hartman's though, since regardless of quality, at least Hartman's shows all had unique premises. Seriously Family Guy, American Dad and The Cleveland Show are pretty much "dysfuctional family animated sitcom starring a pretty stupid dad and the much smarter put upon wife, featuring a daughter character the writers cannot make interesting, a teenage son that for some reason becomes the writer's favorite to constantly use over and over, and some sort of talking animal in some form." Fairy Oddparents was about a boy with magical fairies, Danny Phantom is about a teenager given ghost powers who fights various evil spectres, and Tuff Puppy are about antropamoric animal secret agents.
But of these three series is the best Butch Hartman cartoon? That's hard to tell. I think Fairy Oddparents has the overall funniest jokes and moments, but not only has it warn out it's welcome but it's also probably one of the stupidest cartoons ever made. At least in the sense that "everyone of the cast is such an idiot just to get these plots going that couldn't otherwise happen if any character involved had a two digit IQ." Danny Phantom actually tried having character depth and arcs, but sort of failed at that. And as I've mentioned before, for an action comedy it's jokes weren't that great and it's fights were rarely that exiting. As others have mentioned Tuff Puppy has the most consistent tone and isn't trying has hard and kudos for a Hartman cartoon that FINALLY ditches the idea that there's this massive secret the cast has to hide from other members of the cast, but the jokes and payoffs aren't really that amusing and honestly it also has the most stock and tired plot, as it's set up doesn't have the potential for interest like the other Hartman shows. So honestly all three of these series have rather massive failures. So it really is sort of hard to know which one to pick. Hmmmm, honestly though it probably annoys me the most overall, the best probably is Fairly Oddparents since it at least has the greatest collection of jokes and good rewatchable episodes then it's contemporaries. It at least deserves more of it's "hype" then Danny Phantom and has better comedic pacing then Tuff Puppy. It's not great... certainly not now but of the three it does fare the best.
